I've got some kind of major problem with Windows Update. My download has been stuck at 92% all day now, and my cursor is turning into an hourglass every other second. The Windows Update site tries to download the updates, but it just keeps downloading the same update over and over again, never recognizing it. What should I do? This is really bugging me as I always take the utmost care to keep a pristine PC (especially this XPS), but I've run out of options and ideas. This is Windows XP Professional, Media Center Edition with Service Pack 2.

Have you tried the Windows Update Corporate site? It allows you to download the updates as *.exes and not through that stupid Windows Update thing. You can then run the updates from your HDD, just as if you were running the installer for a program.

It sounds like the download has become corrupt, and it's trying to resume the download, but the file is corrupt, so it doesn't know what to do.

You need to restart the computer in Safe Mode, and look for a hidden directory called WUTemp. Delete the entire directory, reboot into normal mode, and run Windows Update again.
