Windows XP disk checking on startup

I have a small problem with Windows XP disk check on startup. Even if I successfully shut down the computer whenever I boot up it starts to perform a disk check. It's becoming really annoying now. I have searched Google many times but to no avail.

I'm running XP service Pack 1.

Any tips appreciated.
 
You probably enabled it on accident. I did it to my Laptop just for the hell of it. I am running 2000 pro on it so I dont know where you can go to enable or disable it on XP.
 
Hey this has been happening to me too. I had never seen it before and just this week it did it. Then the same thing happened on my colleagues PC at work. And now you? It can't be a coincidence. Is something in the latest Window Update responsible for this?

EDUT: I'm running SP2.

Damn then thats gotta suck. Can you uninstall the latest update? BTW I am about to install Fedora Core today so I dont have to worry about this windows stuff anymore....I hope. :D
 
I found a registry edit to disable disk check on startup, although it hasn't worked for me. I have attached the registry file, but you will need to rename the extension to .reg, open up regedit and then import the file.

Ive had exsactly the same problem.........when it loads up it does disk check and then it does it again everytime I startup...........is there any 'no editing the registry' way to solve it...........Im not to keen on altering stuff like that.......

oh...im running sp1
 
Boot from your Windows XP disc and run the recovery console. Run chkdsk /r

And for God's sake, update to SP2.
