Winning by Nothing

I read the thread about how when you do mission hall and you win by 0 milliseconds the results say that you won by 100000 laps or whatever. That brings to mind the time that I did that. I was doing Fuji Speedway '80s in arcade mode and at the finish line I hit the brakes and the 2nd place guy sped by. I thought I had lost but then I looked and it said I won by 0.00.000. Except it didn't do the huge amount of laps thing. Does it only do that in Mission Hall?
