So today i did some touge races with a guy driving a ae86 and me driving a rx7 FC and what he said after he lost was:

only reason you won was, because you have more HP than I do and i think I'm still faster than you.

he said that even after I won.

so what he basically said was, I won because my car is faster than his: isn't that how your supposed to win a race?, by beating the other driver to the finish line??

how come people cant just admit their defeat and move on?

also he said that winning wasn't important in a race. Then why are you racing????

He couldn't handle the ROTARY POWA!!

Oh man I just realized I missed my chance for a Charlie Sheen joke :(

You probably crushed his ego whilst having him drive his favourite car at the same time. Don't worry about it and move on.

I've tried the online racing a little... and being female & watching what seems to be mostly men race online... winning seems to be tied up with egos somehow. HAHA. As if not having a fast car & being in the lead means they have no reproductive power or something in real life. ;)

No offense, and I'm sure it's not all men... and maybe some women behave like that too, I don't know. But I have a hard time understanding my boyfriend's ideas about racing, so there you go.

it seems to me that a lot of players online will do whatever it takes, including cheating (using a "cheater car" or whatnot), unclean racing (deliberately smashing other cars off the track), or even just outright quitting a race & "leaving the room", just to not lose, or at least not come in last.

So to answer the question "Why are you racing?"
Why do I race if not to win... well yeah, I try to compete, and I wouldn't try to NOT win. duh

But I just like the idea of racing with other real people rather than the AIs sometimes. Plus if you want to experience/practice a track in a variety of cars, the other option is "practice" - by yourself getting no xp & no credits! There's no family cups in gt5! :o(

If I come in last most of the time, oh well - I'm still driving, I'm still practicing, I'm still gaining xp & credits. big whoop. I'll do my best to compete, even if I believe I have no chance at all of winning.

If I'm somehow able to find people who race online in what would be considered "lesser cars" or old cars... or you know, one of the thousands of cars offered in gt5... I wouldn't try not to win, of course. I'd do my best there too, & try to win. And if I never win with that either, so be it. I still enjoy the game even though I can't drive as well as my bf does... I'm certainly not going to stop enjoying it because there's thousands of players out there 20 years younger than me that can play better than me. (reflexes slow with age)

I just got gt5 & so don't have many credits yet, don't have many cars... and I've joined races with people ... and some of them CLEARLY do not know the nurburg track.... and believe me I don't know the track very well, so if someone seems to know it less than me, they really don't know it! But they can beat me only because they have a WAY WAY WAY better car so they're able to go faster from sloppy corner to sloppy corner knocking other cars off the track every chance they get. it's silly.

One race online it was funny, the guy would knock me off the track even though I was trying to allow him to pass... so I'd get a penalty & drop behind, only to catch up to him again & again when he wiped out at the next tricky corner.

I'm not sure I'd feel any ego boost by winning by driving a fast car from one sloppy corner to the next against people driving lower grade cars well... I think I'd be embarrassed to beat someone the way that guy did.

but maybe I'm the crazy one. Maybe it's normal to buy a game with thousands of cars to choose from just to get one or 2 massive cars to beat newbies online driving lesser cars.

As far as I can see the only winning that would count PERSONALLY (ie: displaying driving skill) would be a one make race with a PP limit.
Otherwise, we're just talking about showing off how many hours we've grinded for credits to buy the leet ride. (or cheated for credits for that matter)

QFT. It's not about winning, it's about driving similar cars with like-minded people that respect the rules. That's the formula for enjoyment online (for me, anyway).

The only time I'll leave a room is because I have commitments, or the people in the room aren't following and respecting the rules. Otherwise, I'm enjoying myself and thats all that matters for me.

I thought "quantum field theory" at 1st when I saw QTF ;) I'm so out of touch I had to look that up.

But I'm sure there's boat loads of people like you, I just haven't found many yet because you ppl hide! heehee.

And I'm sure there's competitive people who respect the rules and whatnot. I think my bf is kind of competitive (compared to me at least!) but he's all about RULES. I think it's because he drove something called auto cross race in real life. And of course you wouldn't be driving like you could in a video game in a real car. He's been to formula races I guess & he said he's never seen them drift through corners smacking off walls. LOL
(He cringes & yelps when I rear-end AI drivers by accident!!)

the time, they are a changing...
welcome to the new generation. The "gentlemen" agreements have long since vanished and every aspect of life becomes a competition where only wining seems to count...
There is of course nothing to bad about wining, but having the guts to take a lose and continue weights more for me as needing to win in any way.

I get much more satisfaction out of racing by racing close, door-to-door with anyone on track for any position than to just be out in front by 10-15 secs and finishing by myself... YAY! So basically what Driifterzz said :D

Last night (I host the Trans Am Series) We had a race at Trial Mountain. It was a constant fight for first place between the higher horsepower Challenger RM (Opponent) and the better handling Camaro RM (Me). Needless to say the first race was an extreme fight in which we both broke our own lap records at the track and each car showed its weakness and abilities. In the last turn he went wide I dug in and ended up wining by less than a second.

Due to having two of our player lose connection during the race, I actually suggested along with others to re race so that they can join. Everyone agreed and once again My and my friend had left everyone behind fighting it out the entire length of the course never far from each other. I did not win this time. He beat me by .186.

I did not complain. I was happy to have raced like that. I was more upset over not saving the dang replays than anything else however!

You obviously cheated! I only drive FLAT OUT. "I didn't let you pass me because I thought you would crash in front of me and burst into flames."

Racing pretty much is all about winning.. whether you win by 0.001 or 10.001 it doesnt matter. he should have picked a higher powered car if he knew what you were in
