I've never found a list like this so I went ahead and made one myself.
Give me a shout if I have missed a worthwhile race series.

*No photo included if there is a tie.

There are some series not included in the list above simply because
I can't find the statistics for them. Some of those are:

Formula Renault 3.5

Super GT (300 & 500) - I can find championship wins but not race wins.

World Supersport - They used to have number of career race wins on their official website
but not anymore.

British Superbike - Same as above.

AMA Superbike

Considering Patrick Carpentier managed to win 9 races in Atlantics in 1996, including 8 in a row, I think you've got the wrong info there.

Edit;
I will remove the Atlantic Series from the list until I have found more information
on the subject.

And about the thread title. I had no idea the word 'winningest' was
loathed that much. CNN Sports, Sports Illustrated and Yahoo Sports
frequently use the word, just to name a few sports media outlets.
There are even GTP News pages using 'winningest'.

Whilst Jamie Whincup's 98 race wins (he hasn't cracked 100 yet!) is phenomenal, Craig Lowndes has the most race wins in V8 Supercars at the moment, with 103 wins.

AAA/USAC, CART and INDYCAR are considered the same series for record keeping purposes.

Edit: Mark Dismore had 15 wins in the Atlantic Series, that is most all time for Formula Atlantic/Toyota Atlantic.

Awesome, though probably a mix of series I'd imagine Scott Pruett is up there. Hell, he's won the 24 Hours of Daytona five times (don't know if anyone else has done that). And I'd imagine he's won more Rolex Sportscar races than anyone else. I'll see if I can scrounge up some info.

He's amassed over 60 wins in prototypes and something like eight championships in the Rolex series.

The Scott Pruett file

Leads North American sports car competitors with 59 victories in major competition. • Five career Rolex Series DP titles, 2004, 2008, 2010-12, all for Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates. • Five-time overall winner of Rolex 24 At Daytona (tied Hurley Haywood for all-time lead), also leads with 10 class victories. • Two victories in Champ Car competition, including 1995 Michigan 500. • Three-time SCCA Trans-Am champion, two-time IMSA GT champion. • 1989 Indianapolis 500 co-Rookie of the Year. - See more at: http://www.imsa.com/drivers/scott-pruett#sthash.s9N5DOTp.dpuf

I went looking for the Atlantic records.
Thank you for the link, I will reinstate the Atlantic Series and put Dismore in as the winningest driver.
Thanks again.

Scott Pruett

I see he's won 41 races in the NASCAR Rolex Grand-Am Sports Car Series.
I don't know if it's the record though.

Your suggestion of most wins in the 24h of Daytona is a good one.
It made me think of most Indy 500 wins, which is 4 tied between three drivers.

The list will be updated and thanks for contributing.

FIA World Rallycross Championship - Supercars
Petter Solberg - 8 wins

Intercontinental Rally Challenge
Juho Hanninen - 11 wins
Thanks for that.

I will also add MotoGP's 80cc and 50cc classes of old.
I hesitated at first since I figured MGP/500, 350, 250, 125, M2 and M3 was enough.

But they deserve their place in the list so Jorge Martinez (22 wins in 80cc)
and Angel Nieto (27 wins in 50cc) will also be added to the list.

Here are the MotoGP numbers by the way if anybody wants to learn more:

As well as being a complete nutjob...
Being a Swede I can translate the Norwegian commentator in the video if
you're interested.
I had to play it back a few times though.

Martin won the first two rounds of the European season in 1992
but the following round in Finland ended in shambles.
He got spun by Pekka Ranton (sp?) and the car suffered enough damage
that he had to park it next to the track and that was when Mr. Rallycross' emotions
got the better of him.

He walked out onto the track and waited, and like a traffic police officer stopped the drivers
and nearly got hit. There was a red flag and Martin would get excluded from the event.

He also lost his racing license (for three months) and with that lost all hope of
becoming European champion.

Would you include the Isle of Man TT? I appreciate it might be considered slighty different from an outright championship (indeed it was a round of the MotoGP calender for almost 30 years) but it's a pretty worthy discipline..

Current leader is Joey Dunlop (26 wins).

Most successful BSB winner is Shane Byrne with (if my counting is correct) 65 wins.

shakeyBSBTEST_DP_140401_JD001.jpg

Nice and interesting list.👍

How about including the Dakar?

(if I am correct)
Stephane Peterhansel 6 times on bike and car.
Vladimir Chagin 7 times with truck.

Hi Jocke - I am nominating Gerry Marshall - probably the winningest driver of all time with 625 documented race victories between 1964 and 2004. He is rated as one of the world's best drivers and possibly the UK's greatest ever driver. Most famous for his victories in the Dealer Team Vauxhall "Baby Bertha" Firenza in British Super Saloons (the car was powered by a five litre Repco Holden V8). Gerry and Baby Bertha can be seen and heard in action in this wonderful clip.

PS I believe Shane Byrne has 68 BSB victories - that was the figure quoted by the commentary team during today's BSB round.
