Wireless Controllers

I'm not having luck hijacking other threads. So here goes.

Nintendo has the Wavebird for the GameCube, so it works just about as nicely as their wired controllers. But Sony and Microsoft leave us begging for third party controllers that, as we all know, suck ass.

Until now. I've seen and used the Logitech wireless controller for XBox and it wasn't too bad. I didn't get to play long enough with it to really get used to the different sticks, but it seemed alright to me. What about the Playstation version - has anyone used it?

And that's pretty much what Logitech has to offer. I've also seen this WOW Adaptor for PS2 from Saitek, who by the way make really awesome flight sticks. Has anyone used this wireless thing? It would allow me to keep using my DualShocks that I like so much, which is good, but I don't know if it would add latency to the reaction timing.

Are there any other options that my Google searches haven't found?

I don't think there is much more than what's on offer. Nothing close to the quality of the 'bird' anyway. I think I read that there will be an offical PS 2 infra red/radio wave controller made by Sony in the future.

Infra-red would be craptastic. That would be like playing with a television remote. You'd have to have it pointed at the PS2 the entire time. Radio is definitely the way to go.

Again, for future systems, I think they should have a high power Bluetooth adaptor built in. And a bunch of USB ports. And ethernet. And 802.11g (wireless network). And a big hard drive. Yup.

But no one here uses wireless controllers?

doesnt mad catz back their products for life?

so if its ever defective or something, they replace it for free.

Well, frankly, I don't care how many times they'll replace a product. If it's crap I don't want a new one. I probably broke it out of frustration. (:

I have logitech's wireless controller (the one you provided a link to) and have had it for a good 3 months. This controller is damn near flawless. It has great battery life (I still haven't changed the batteries out from the ones it came with!), has a good weight to it and feels better than the standard Dual Shock 2.

My only complaint and also the same one that IGN had in their review of this controller was the loosness of the joysticks. Their just too easy to move for my liking and I was noticing this last night when I was playing GT3 with it (I normally play with my DFP). Other than that though it was a purchase I'd make again if needed.

In IGN's review they said that the Dual Shock 2 was always the controller they would keep going back to as the standard because nothing was better, but this surpassed it.

I have a wireless brigde on my PS2 so I can connect to the internet. It hooks me up to my wireless network.

Me TOO! And it's super cool because I can plug my XBox, PS2, AudioTron, and ReplayTV into it and still have a port left for something else like a computer.

But this thread is about wireless game controllers, not wireless networking.

I have a Wavebird and it is excellent! The wieght is as much as a normal Cube pad, but without the rumble effect. There is a cool roller switch to change between 12 different frequencies for up to 12 players, dah! I would recomend it to anyone with a cube, makes as a good trophy aswell if there is only one bird in the room "winner get's the bird". We have become very energy efficient, by turning off the bird in between loading or waiting for someone to finish a race. "Save the wave!"

That is sweet. And I love "Winner gets the Bird" !!! Reminds me of the old Atari 2600 days when the Atari red button controllers would die off and you'd replace them with a third party controller that was actually better, "Winner gets the yellow button!!"

... them were the days ...

I said I'd attach pictures of my controllers. This is for "display" and they're usually spagettied together ...

in my little cupboard i have 6 n64 controllerss, 2 snes, 2 ps2, 4 xbox, and 4 cube controllers, so if anyone knows about tangles its me :)

Oh, not playing any spacific game. But probably the last one on each console was Turtles for PS2 (four player awesomeness) and Halo 2, again four player.

There's nothing better than having 3 buddies round and having some good ol multiplayer. Turtles in time on the Snes was a great 2 player game, but I think it was also 4 player aswell. Ah the memories.

Turtles as in Ninja Turtles? Hey is there any game that is four player for the PS2 other than sports? Like shooting or racing or something like Mortal Combat?

A misserably short list ...

There are more, but as you can see I haven't updated that list in quite some time.

yes.

Fountech make the AirStyle W-Shock2

I myself don't own one :( but they do look good.. and the reviews have been positive.. also they don't cost that much more than a Sony DS2 controller. 👍

I actually saw that when I was buying some other stuff from Lik-Sang. It appears to be a good controller, except for two reviews.

Even though this is the best wireless controller for the ps2 its not as responsive as the dual shock and being wireless it does have problems with interuptions

and ...

I just purchased this controller and i am very dissapointed..
The d-pad is horrible.. If your into fighting games then this controller is not for you, The D-Pad will tear your thumbs apart over night.. the edges are just to sharp for a hardcore fighting game fan.. More over the response time is no where near that of a Dual shock, it lags big time.. Id recomend this controller for any game other than a fighter.. For a Fighting game its just not worth it.. the only reason i give it 2 stars is because the design and stylin are nice.. when everything is said and done this controller is all show and no go..

That's what I'm trying to avoid. I want something that performs as well as the DualShock2 but is wireless. I don't think that option is ever going to be available. Anyone actually trying to make money from controller sales is in for tough competition with the company that merely sells their own controllers at or near cost in order to drive console sales which drives game sales which is where they really make their money.

The Logitech XBox wireless controllers are $50 and $70 compared to the Microsoft wired S controller for $30. Perhaps Logitech has made progress in quality ... I also find it interesting that the Playstation 2 version is only $40.

I would only buy an official wireless DS 2 controller, no exceptions mmkay? I'll wait patiently until that glorious day when I can play PS 2 or 3 with no worries about wires tangling.

Unlike you I have only 2 DS 2 pads, a Wavebird and 1 offcial Cube pad. So I don't share the same wire and the impatience problem with you.

Off subject, Doesn't the shell on the male tortoise have a Jamaica flag painted onto it?

I picked up the Logitec controller from your first post about a week ago and have tried it out on The Sims, multiple Final Fantasy's and GT1-3. So far, what I thought was lag has turned out to be me way too used to my DS2. All in all a very well built (and not too heavy considering the batteries) controller. Of course, I didn't need 4 of them at $40 a hit.
