After a lot of unsucessful googling I figured I'd ask here.

I want to send files from my laptop to my friends laptop through a wireless network. How can this be done? Is there a way to configure the wireless cards on each laptop to create some sort of network? Or can we both connect to my wireless router and send it through that?

Oh both laptops are running Vista, if that helps.

Yeah, you can create a Peer to Peer network on Vista, to create an Ad Hoc network.

I can't remember exactly how to do it on the top of my head (I'm on an XP machine at the moment), but it's as simple as going into the Network bit, create a new network, choose Ad Hoc or Peer to Peer from the list (It's near the bottom), then your friend just connects to that.

Oh well, ended up transferring the smaller files over msn messenger with both laptops connected to my wireless router. Then used a file splitter for the large files and did them piece by piece on my SD card and some flash drives. Got through with most of it.

I tried the ad hoc network and actually created it and my friend connected and everything however I couldn't figure out how to send the files from my computer to his. :indiff:

To go directly from one laptop to the other over the network all you need is a folder to be shared with the network. Put what you want to move into that folder so the other computer can find it.
Since you have a wireless router, just connect wirelessly as normal. Once both have Internet access you're nearly there. Just share a folder somewhere.
