Wireless Mouse is the way to go. I have two Wireless mice (??), one for desktop and one for my laptop. Both of them are Logitech. I haven't have any problems with them, and the battery lasts pretty long . My laptop mouse is optical and has a switch to turn off when not in use. I highly recommend them, as they reduce desk clutter and if you have lots of paper or what not on your table, you can move your mouse wherever it is more convienent with no problem. Once you go wireless, you never go back ;)

I've gone back! I bought a packard bell one from pcworld (packard bell is owned by NEC) , and, it was really nice! Black, soft touch keys, and it was fairly small too. It didn't come with a little stand charger thing, just a usb charge cable and an ac plug charger. I kept forgetting to plug it in at night, so i ended up using the usb charger cable 24/7. Then we got a laptop, and it got left out next to my desktop, as i didn't need it when a laptop has a touchpad. I think it somehow reset, as now it won't work with either computer, so i'm back on the desktop with a logitech wired ball mouse, branded with "Tiny". I haven't noticed the differance since to be quite honest. Also, i found that the wireless one, not being secured into the computer, always kept dissappearing.

So, if you have seen one you like, get it, but i strongly suggest that you buy one with a stand for charging, or other wise, a) they don't get charged and b) you lose them.

Thanks

Jon

I've had a Microsoft Basic Wireless Optical Desktop for about 3 months now. I love it. The keyboard is still going on the original batteries, and the mouse has only had one change of batteries since I got it. 👍

I've been using a wireless keyboard and mouse for several years now, and I couldn't go back. On my XPS system, I don't have a lot of desk space, so it is extremely handy to be able to quickly clear off my desktop. I have the Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Comfort Edition, which is the best keyboard I have ever used. And for mousing (?), I use the Microsoft Wireless Intellimouse Explorer. I honestly can't remember the last time I changed the batteries on either device, and they work flawlessly. Highly recommended! 👍

I'll agree to the keyboard. 2nd best keyboard I've ever used. The best is their wave model with the split in the middle.

The mouse is also damn good and very comfortable, but I prefer the feel of my Logitech MX500 to the intellimouse.

I don't currently own a wireless mouse(A couple of Mircrosoft mice), but the expirences I've had with gaming are bad. The mouse would have jittery movement when I played FPS games, which I didn't like. And it would cut out on me on occasion.

I now have the Logitech MX510 Mouse and I love it. The back/forward buttons, the high DPI, etc.

As for wireless mice, I wouldn't mind trying out the MX1000. Alot of people think that optical mice are "lasers" which is a misconception. The MX1000 uses an actual laser making it 20x more sensitive than opticals!

I've owned two wireless mice and i have to say if you're going to get one, make sure you get one with rechargable batteries and a cradle to charge it in. My first had this and so it was alright, but the one i have now has replacable batteries and becomes a bit of a pain. Need to change the batteries about once every 3 weeks. Being wireless and optical, i've been very happy with both. Completely necessary for both graphics and gaming.

I haven't experienced any lag in gaming with my mouse and keyboard. I guess it also depends on how far away the receiver is. I keep the receiver about 40cm away (about 15 inches for you non-metric people) and haven't experienced any problems.

As for that Logiteech mouse, I'd buy it if it didn't look like a freaking alien. A problem I have with a lot of Logitech products.

I've got that one too. I've had it for about 8 months now. The mouse ran through the in-box batteries pretty quickly. In about a month, I think. I put Duracell Extra batteries in by way of replacement, and it's much better. It's not too hot on my pre-existing mousepad, and laziness has prevented me from buying a new mouse pad. It works very well on just a sheet of plain paper. Well enough to get through Half Life 2, anyway.

I've just bought one of these for the laptop, and it's excellent. I particularly like the way that it switches itself off when you plug the receiver into the bottom.

Incidentally, I had a Packard Bell mouse for about two days once. I took it back to the shop, and had a bit of an argument with them. Had to quote the UK Sale of Goods Act, in which it says that the device must be "fit for purpose". My argument was that it was not. I got a full refund.

Well, I kept my reciver about 8 inches away from the mouse itself, and still had problems...

And how could you not like the MX510?! It's one of the best gaming mice out there. Well, second to the MX518, which has adjustiable DPI.

I can't stand the latency in wireless devices that I've used. And they were all top notch devices.

EERRRRR Wrong. Notice the 'Insert / Home / Page Up / Delete / End / Page Down' cluster is realligned. It's also made of poorer plastics and has a very mushy feel. I actually bought that set for my girlfriend (now fiance) and her rig has been moved to my house so I'm sure I'll be using it more often now. Chances are I'll stick with what I've got until it catches on fire and becomes a lump of charred plastics, but you never know ...

I actually like that mushy feel... but then again, I've been using almost nothing but my laptop for the past 2 years and I'm used to it.

I have the Logitech Cordless MX Duo ...

Keyboard still on the original batteries over a year later (bought it March 2004) ... The mouse had to be replaced a few months ago because the charging connections were starting to rust, but it was replaced under warranty (5-year warranty) ... None of the current mice on the market are as good ergononmically, IMO ...

I also have this as my backup mouse ...

I have the same mouse, but I went for the Night Vision version. Using it 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, the batteries last around 3 months. After looking at the link, I think I should have waited. They extended the battery life and have more style options. Oh, well. I will second the "Highly recommended." I love the tilt wheel (especially for the photo thread).

I have the Logitech MX1000 laser mouse.

it has yet to give me any problems (besides my dog taking a whiz in the docking station holder thing. gross.) , and has a lithium rechargeable battery.

DO NOT, i repeat, DO NOT buy a wireless mouse that uses regular batteries. i had a little wireless travel mouse that i used to use, but it ate batteries like crazy. eventually the cost of continuously buying bunch after bunch to replace the dead ones surpassed what the mouse had originally cost.

you're better off buying something rechargable. this way, you can use it pretty much forever.

I had my doubts about wireless untill I got a Logitech MediaPlay which I love so much! I just had to replace the batt. and it's been almost a month.

Looks like the battery gets drained from the lights, although they look sweet. 👍

It doesn't stay on the whole time... only when you press one of the "remote" buttons. :D:tup:

edit:

I had this other mouse and the above is LEAPS and BOUNDS better. It is also the reason why I didn't think wireless was all that. The batt. last like 2 weeks at most. I should mention it also depends how much you actually use the mouse too. :dopey:

logitech_mouse_laptop.jpg

The most I paid for a mouse was the one above at $40 and I would never pay anything more. The MediaPlay mouse I got for $35 but it's regularly $50 was $60 when it first came out. :scared:

The biggest thing I'm worried about in any mouse is when it starts double clicking when I click once. I hate that and it's happened to all the mice I've had so far. :grumpy:

I still use the case for my new one too! :sly:

i'm to cheap to go wireless. i have several times before but they have led me to bad times. i am sticking with a multimedia keyboard from some backwater brand and a logitech ball mouse (you use the solid ball to move it) its great. it is very precise. doesnt require mobement...kicks ass. no wireless though.

Batteries are at 0.98 volts as of Today ... Probably won't last much longer ...

I'm quite pleased with the fact that it's been going on the original batteries for 14 months ...

The battery only lasts you 2 weeks on that grey Logitech? I have the exact same one and my battery lasts about two months. Do you turn off your mouse when its not in use?
