I'm looking to replace my WG311v3, its not compatible with Windows 7 (64 Ultimate), with a new Wireless N adapter either USB or PCI, but leaning USB at this stage.

150/300 Mbps, doesn't matter, I have a G router, but are there any pitfalls to getting USB and not PCI? My current one is PCI, and it has an ariel, but I'm only getting 2/5 bars, so, I want to get 5 bars, not that my internet speed suffers, ever, even with 4 other people on at the same time, with 7-8 devices (my phone, ps3, 2 pcs, ect), but when I'm copying info from the time machine it takes forever, 1MB/s (8Mb/s right? 8 bits in a byte?), so I want to get the best possible.

Vaguely happy either way, want to hear what people are using, if I go PCI then I don't need to put a dust cover over the gap that's left, and hopefully that'll bring better performance, I won't spend much on the card though I don't think, likewise if I go USB, I may leave the PCI card in there anyway, have plenty of power from the PSU, I'll just disable the device and be done with it.

I take USB because its cheaper, and if it stops working, I just unplug and plug it back in. Signal depends on the adapter itself and its antenna, not the USB vs PCI. I used to have a very good Patriot USB adaptor the size of a penny, worked like a charm until a week ago when I was moving and forgot it in my PC and when the PC went in the box, it broke. Now I have a Cisco Valet Connector, not bad, got it for $10.

With a USB you'd be able to have your antenna higher in your room, and that could give you a better reception(signal strength). Now if your Router/Access Point is in the basement and your on the top floor, being low to the ground would be better.

Wrong as with PCI you can put the antenna anywhere too.

PCI would be best bet.

Free USB slot
No risk of damaging it
replaceable antenna.
