I've heard for years about World of Warcraft on Blizzard.com. But i've never ever seen it on the shelves.

Has anyone every heard of it at all?

If so, can you give me a brief description on what kind of game(RPG, RTS, etc) and how it works?

Thx

I believe its suppose to be out later this year. Its a mmorpg. You'll find more info at the world of warcraft site on blizzard.com.

I been in at Blizzard, but to me, it doesn't explain it to me. I'll check out some more sites about it.

So its like Ultima ONline?

World of Warcraft is basically similar to the "command and conquer: renegade"
it's based on warcraft, but you only control one character
if not mistaken, i think it's a combination of diablo II and wc3

World of Warcraft Beta sign-ups start Wednesday

Blizzard will soon begin accepting submissions to test its upcoming MMORPG.

Blizzard software has announced that it will soon begin accepting applications for the beta test of its upcoming massive multiplayer online role-playing game, World of Warcraft. According to the Blizzard Web site, gamers can start signing up as of 6pm PST on Wednesday, January 28th. Unfortunately, the first phase of beta-testing will only accept applications from Canada, Korea, and the US. "The test for Europe and other countries around the world will happen later this year," said a message on the Blizzard site.

The World of Warcraft sign-up period will end one week later end on Wednesday, February 4th at 6:00 pm PST. However, according to Blizzard, "Testers are not going to be chosen on a first-come, first-served basis, so you will be able to submit an application and receive equal consideration anytime during the signup period."

World of Warcraft is a fantasy-themed MMORPG based on Blizzard's best-selling Warcraft series. However, instead of real-time strategy combat , the game will emphasize questing and character development, as well as orc-hewing and foe-slaying. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's preview.

I played the beta for a month. The retail blows compared to the beta because of the server instability. I haven't been able to play all of today and most of yesterday. Pretty rocky right now...

Other than that, the gameplay is pretty fun and there are lots and lots of quests so it never feels like you are just grinding (unlike Lineage 2) and everyone seems somewhat friendly. Not as friendly as CoH but definately not as hostile as L2. Anyway, I've been fishing quite a bit lately because of the horrible lag but hopefully when they fix the lag issue, it'll be as smooth as it was during beta. Holler at me if your playing I'm TormentmyPoo on BlackRock.

I'm having horrid hardware issues with it. I'm not sure why, my computer meets and excedes the minimum requirements. I've also gone through and completed all of the Technical Support Troubleshooting and have replied to a few emails they've sent me. Its really starting to get on my nerves.

However, I have been able to play for a couple minutes before the game becomes permanently frozen, and I've loved those few minutes. I'm still having issues on decided what race and class to be! Awsome game! Now I just need to get it working properly.

I love it! I have just played beta, and i cant play retail because im in europe.

The game is not just beautiful on the graphical side, although far less advanced than Everquest2, but way more stylish and atmospheric. EQ2 require too much of your pc to really show you the juicy graphics (if can call them that). With my current system, i played on balanced settings, had an decent fps with enough "effects to make it pretty. But compared to WoW, you can max the settings and have awesome fps, even in fights!
Gameplay is very easy and controls are really easy to learn!

Soundfx is great. Ambiant sounds fit in perfectly and makes you feel like you're there!
Combat is fun, but i got to say EQ2 have some nicer features there. I miss those in WoW since i played EQ2 beta. But i'll live since WoW overall is a way better game.

Interface is smooth and light for the eye to watch. I cant stop, but i have to compare to EQ2 again.. i hated its interface. Really ugly as standard. Maybe there's some custum things somewhere.... I know there is some for WoW.

Last week of beta there were alot of lagg problems, but it laster turned out that they added something to the server.. debug or something that slowed everything down!
But before that, i had no problem at all with lag or disconnects, even though i played on pacific servers, and im in sweden.

Some say its more childish or whatever, but dont fall for that! Blizzard has designed this game to perfection, nothing really new in it, but just a really well put together game!

Can hardly wait to get my EU copy of this! *drooling*

The monthly fee helps with managing the server because of more then 1000s of players, the money doesn't go to Blizzard for no reason at all. Also is there a way I can play World of Warcraft without paying by credit card, but like a game card(you punch in a code and you get a certain amount of months free, till it expires and you buy another card)

but it still makes no sense to be forced to spend $50+ on the game AND pay the monthly fees. Keep in mind that with subsription alone, they should be able to break even of all production costs within 6 months of the game's release.

Um... I know what it goes toward. I see no reason why they'd need it, though. Ever played Diablo 2? They didn't charge per month for that, and look how well it did.

Ya thats true, but Diablo only supported 8 players max per server, while WoW supports of atleast 1000 players in one server.

I'm sorry, but I'm not going to buy a game that in order to play it, I have to keep paying per month. Doesn't sound logical for me.

Go back to Vulcan. :dopey: heh Just joking.

I have not played Diablo so i dont know how that works.
I have friends that is skeptical about paying the montly fee, and i just dont get it, why?
10 bucks extra per month or something like that is nothing, and the pleasure you get for that is amazing. Cut down on pizza, beer or candy.. cause that is more expensive than paying the monthly fee! And that wont last a whole month either!

Its a big living, breathing world you get. Mostly there are tons of stuff you can do (depends on what mmog), you meet new friends, gather up and do really funny things together.
I have almost strayed away completely from singleplayer games, because they dont give me enough stuff to do. Bought Half-Life 2 the other day. Im pretty sure though that it's mod community will make it live very long!

Other than HL2, im in mmogames.

Ah well, if you cant cough up 10 bucks extra per month or cut down on something if that is what you need to to, then i'll say it is your loss!

oh, Guildwars do not have a montly fee.

If I'm desperate for a MMORPG, I'll go to Runescape. It's free, it's gigantic maximus, it's addicting, and best of all, you can have over 20,000 people on a server. There's a pay version for it, that doubles the size of the game. It's a badass free game.

We pay monthly for the use of the massive servers, updates and fixes to unknown problems that might arise, as well as updates to the game world. Diablo didnt charge a fee because its not an MMORPG simple as that. Plus D2 is boring, repetative, had ****ty 2d backgrounds and extremely short story. WoW is expected to have over 2000 quests updated after release, around 1700 right now. As well as lifetime quests which are very storyline driven and will take the entire lifetime of your character to complete. I could go on about why the money is worth it but I doubt the people who cant afford it even care and the people who are already paying or planning too, already know.

WoW will definately have pay cards, I'm not sure about right now. I remember reading something about it.

edit: Some info about pay cards.
Gamecards will ship on Monday, November 29th. If you have been unable to find a card, that's why. For now, players without creditcard access will have to wait.
