I'm really starting to think that this record is becoming sort of pointless considering the money most car companies have to make a car insanely fast. Another reason is that the term "Production Car" is used quite loosely. I don't know the exact parameters for a car to be eligible to try for the record but I'll assume that a certain number have to made/sold. I think that we should stop focusing on this record and come up with a new one that gives a car an overall rating composing of a few different measurments including:
-Top speed
-Acceleration
-Handling
-Price???
In other words, performance points.
I'm starting to get sick of uninspired Musclecars from both USA and Europe with over 800 hp that handle like Freight trains. Also cars shouldn't be considered production if they are so expensive (I'm thinking $500,000ish) that you would have to be straight up dumb to buy.
Now that my whiny rant is over, I was just wondering what you thought of the fastest production car record and if it should still be used to compare cars.
Wow, I'm glad i got through that whole post without saying "Veyron." Damn!

Handling is subjective though, some people want a loose as crazy machine, some like understeer as opposed to oversteer, etc. Regardless, there are many companies out there that don't try and sell their supercars solely based on top speed records - Porsche and Nissan have notably been slugging it out over Nurburgring lap times for years - now THAT is a test that takes into account Top Speed, Acceleration and Handling.

As for price, Supercars have never been about the price...

Yea I've seen more companies (even American) go to the ring to tune their cars. that seems like a fair way to determine the best car.
