nope
My ps2 broke down this morning it makes a really loud noise when the disc is spinning so i'm wondering is it better to buy a new ps2 or wait for the ps3 which is coming out in about 3 months?

If you buy one now, then sell it on after you've bought a PS3, you'll get SOME money back but not all of it. Or you could wait until the PS3 comes out to save a bit of money. Personally, I wouldn't waste any more money on the PS2 and would wait for the PS3. It all depends on how desperate you are on spending more money on your out-of-date PS2 just before the PS3 release.

I've had this problem twice. you have a laser problem. the first time I took my PS2 to my local game shop & they repaired it for £30. the 2nd time this happend, I took my PS2 to my local game shop & they replaced the laser for £50

I guess it depends if you can live without a PS2 & weither you can afford a PS3.
I know I won't be getting a PS3 untill the price comes down. (unless my grandad suddenly gets more than £10 in the lottery!!)

wait for the ps3 .. i think u should be able to play ps2 games on it .. and its only a couple of months away.... maybe sending ur ps2 to sony?

i think you should get a PS2 if you're strapped for money.

if you have around £400, then go ahead and get the PS3 in 3 months.

im not gonna get a PS3, £400 is just too much

If I were you, I'd find a decent looking working used one... Shouldn't cost much more than a pretty penny and should easily last you the last 2 months....

I don't think it's the laser cause i spun the thing in the middle and it's like it's got juice spilt on it i mean it's hard to spin but most of the games still work just load slow

I went to wikepedia and it said the ps3 is about $823 AUD

i don't think i'll ever get another one but i'm not allowed to get another ps2 yet either i'm hoping for a PSP for christmas

Maybe you could clean it out, or send it back to Sony for a warranty fix (if you still have the warranty valid)

Or maybe you could get a used PS2 or Xbox or something relatively cheap.

i don't know what the warranty is but it's our second ps2 which we've had for 11 or 12 months

as i said most of the games still work it's just noisy and they load slower

Try buying a second-hand Sony PlayStation 2 for around $10.00 and sell it once you buy the new Sony PlayStation 3. You should get most of the money back. I'm assuming you're peripherals are working.

my ps2 can play gt4 again now and it works perfectly when i tip the ps2 upsidedown:lol:

i bought a 2nd hand silver ps2 from electronics boutique for $150 when my original finally quit after years of faithfull service and it was the best $150 i ever spent. came with a new silver controller, the original silver controller and a 1 yr warranty. if you used your old one heaps it could be worth it, sony will no doubt push the release date for the ps3 back again (i hate to say that but i'd bet money on it :guilty: )

okay now my ps2's really stuffed, it won't play dvds anymore:banghead:, only cd ps2 (and ps1) games, but it's probably fixable, only the thing in the middle that spins the discs is all tight, making it very hard to spin the discs, so that means no more WRC, no more Spyro a hero's tail, no more Colin Mcrae rally 3, badly no more Gran Turismo 3:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:( AND WORST OF ALL TO TOP IT OFF NO MORE GRAN TURISMO 4:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

i lost the box, the instructions, the receipt, and the warranty, i think i've had it for about 15 months, but it's okay, we went to Adelaide on Tuesday and went to this gaming store, and on the wall there was a poster that said:

poster at gaming store
Get your broken ps2 replaced here

But the problem is, that i wasn't organised and didn't have my ps2 with me:indiff:, and because it's 2 hours away, we don't go there that often:indiff:, but now my ps2's really stuffed, when we do, i'll have my ps2 ready:)

when my first ps2 started to go stupid, it was the dvd's that stopped working first then gt4 and 24.
let us know what happens, goodluck with it. i couldn't live without my ps2

well nfsu2 is the only dvd that works, and for what you said, mine hasn't been playing gt4 for about 6 months, then yesterday the rest of the dvds, but the cds still work, and occasionally the dvds work

it seems like it's picking and choosing what it wants to play:indiff:

get a PS2, its gonna be a while PS3 preorders are sold out already in the 50 mile radius from me, pre orders started 24 hours ago. Its gonna be a while before its easy to buy a PS3.

gt4 is the only game that doesn't work now, but all other games very slow, and i don't put my ps2 upside down anymore, i have a feeling that's how this happened to my AFL Live 2003 disc:

edit: now gt3 won't work:( the third gt disc to stop working on me:(

Same thing happened to one of my slims a few weeks ago. Cleaning the lens with some rubbing alcohol would help, but only temporarily. Now, GT4 is the only thing that doesn't work and everything else is slow. I've never had mine upside down, though.

well, i might buy a new ps2 since the ps3 has been delayed until March next year (:grumpy:), and i won't be getting one for a while after that

Wait for the PS3 I would say, but if you don't have the money right away then save up. Also when you save up for a PS3, make sure you have some money left over to buy a PS2 memory card adapter and some games on the day you get your PS3.

Is it upright or laying flat when you have this problem ?

You can try standing it upright. If you run certain discs..DVD especially and dual layered they spin really fast and its the unbalanced disc you are hearing making the noise...A while back I read about a really simple solution to the problem..I just do not rember it...it had something to do with adding a label or plastic donut around the hole in the center of the disc to keep it from flopping around . But most people just stand the thing up on its side.

Used/ rebuilt PS2 's in the US cost about 130.00 ..I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.

As it is PS3 wont really be available until March of 2007 or later..they only released 400,000 in the US....GONE in hours .
