Would it be possible for PD to add weather for all tracks?

I am just thinking here, would it be possible for PD to add dynamic or if not dynamic random wheather conditions in the near future for most of the tracks in A-spec and online mode?

This is why I think it would be possible to add (This is just my opinion and I am no game developer lol):

  • All cars have working head lights (well the ones that have head lights lol)
  • No change in look of road surface
  • Some visual effects like spray from tyres, rain and some fog
  • AI can drive on wet conditions
  • Road Surface made less grippy

Well, they'd need to change the whole sky texture.

Also, they'll need to add some rain textures on the road surface, like SSR7.

It's certainly possible, although considering that they would have to do this on all seventy plus tracks/variations, I don't see that happening in the near future. We're more likely to see DLC tracks with those dynamic weatehr/night changes.

The few tracks that do have weather are not perfect either. It's obvious that PD has jumped into the shallow end of the pool are now just wading their until they gather the courage to go into the deeper end.

Does that analogy make any sense?

Weather might make it to all other tracks, but dynamic? I don't think so. At least save the dynamic for long races or the enduros.

I was just talking about this. That would make the game a lot more fun for me. They probably couldn't do all the tracks with one update, it'll probably take a couple due to all the new textures they would have to add.

I'm no developer or game designer but aren't all the required textures and models already in the game... Couldn't they just be transferred to other tracks?

i just drove SSR7 for the first time the other night, the wet looking road adds so much to the immersion for me, id be happy if they just made the rest of the wet tracks look like SSR7

yes but i hope not, i'm actually tired of the damn rain on Monza, Le Sarthe and the Ring.

I dunno, I've noticed GT5 doesn't have moving sky like most other racing games do. Most racers have clouds that move, but with GT5 it's all static, like a picture. So I'm guessing they would have to change the way the whole sky works, like, redo the sky from the ground up.

it would be nice.. but i doubt it.

Im sure there were more wet tracks in GT3 than in 5!!!

I think the reason the roads look a lot more "wet" in SS7 compared others is probably because SS7 has a lot of street lights shining their light onto the road surface, making the water reflect the light.

The surfaces at La Sarthe and others don't look that wet at night because the lack of street lights, but at sunrise they do look wet but not to the level that SS7 has it.

What racing game has moving sky? Of the semi-sim racer I've played, only Ferrari Challenge has it (although that was removed from Supercar Challenge). Forza or SHIFT don't have moving clouds/sky. None of the PC sims- rFactor, iRacing or nKar have that either.

The lack of SSR5 wet makes me sad.

And SSR11 wet.

You make it sound like it's an extremely big deal. It's really about tracks, not variations. There's really no reason why, for example, Monza unchicaned shouldn't have weather changes that the normal version features. Same for other tracks of which only one variation has got weather or time changes (Nurburgring, La Sarthe, Suzuka, etc). Most of the work for those tracks has already been done. There's even a wet version of the Top Gear Test Track which is available only in a licence test.

I hope they do. I really expected Gt5 to already have weather and night tracks, one disappointment for me.

what i want to see is some accumulating snow on road courses

Yes and no.. depends how they build their tracks, remember when you do a 'wet' track you normally have some kind of reflection mapping on the road surface, this can mean you are rendering nearly twice as much, if you haven't planned for that while building you may not be able to just drop it in later.

If the track is purpose built from the beginning that it will later have a 'wet' mode you can build to a poly/render budget.

Also add to that, particle effects for rain, water spray, these all put a massive load on the rendering.
