Just after I got GT5 we upgraded our TV to a large HD set. We never changed the seating, and we sit about 14 feet away. That's how I've been driving on GT5.
A while ago someone posted a video on the "Cockpit View" thread where a guy sat close enough to his TV for his real wheel to mask the screen version.

Today I moved a chair to about 6 feet from the screen, as per the THX guide lines for HDTV to get about 40 degrees of vision filled with TV:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optimum_HDTV_viewing_distance

Wow... what a difference!! The road is bigger!! It's much more realistic!
I went from my best position of 4 on the seasonal real tracks race at Suzaka to winning by 3 seconds, first time! I have knocked at least 20 seconds off my best Nurb lap! I beat my best ever Trial Mountain time by 2.5 seconds, first try!

I know lots of you know this already, but those of you sitting too far from your TV should try moving closer... sounds obvious but it's not until you do it you see how much of a difference it makes!

Yeah you can see the road easier, therefore picking out the racing line easier, faster, and smoother. 👍 glad you have found a "new step" on your GT5 adventure xD .👍

very true...i have a 42" hdtv and my rig is about 5 ft away..its awesome.

I sit about 6' away from my 46" and I drive much better than upstairs when I play on my 37" at about 12' away.

Interesting thread, I alternate between a 22" TV in my bedroom and a 32" in the living room, but sit fairly close to both. I still find cockpit view hard work though, perhaps I should try again.

This should be in the main GT5 discussion by the way, not "Questions and Answers"

Tried it and it works. Awesome results too.

Have fun getting eye cancer

This is the recommended distance actually, so I doubt anyone will get "eye cancer"

That's exactly it... you feel more "there". I could see the road easily from 14', but moving in makes it much easier to judge distances, apexes etc.

I don't use cockpit view much... bumper cam suits me best. Sorry about the wrong thread (although it is a sort of "answer"!) I keep forgetting the main one! Maybe the Mods could move it?

Are you 'avin a laugh??

Ahh...thats it. Couldnt pinpoint the reason. You are exactly right...especially if you have bad vision and are not wearing your glasses.

I would sit as far away from eye cancer as possible.

i had my 32" sitting on top of a 4' tallboy unit and my chair had my eye level around the bottom of the screen. redecorated there last week so it gave me a chance to reshuffle the furniture. television now sits on top of a 2' locker and it feels awesome lol. havent noticed a vast improvement in lap times or anything but the gaming experience has definitely went up a few notches.

my old setup, however, was good for MW2 as i stood up while playing it, running round with a UMP45......
