WRC Modern Classics Season 2001! Rally Argentina

Yeah, I had kept my softs for the end. I had tested rain tires after some people had said they were OK but I didn't like the feel of them at all so I went mediums 1-4 and 5-7.

The corner I went wide at I have driven dozens of times, About 3-4 times earlier in the this rally so it was a stupid mistake. Still I'm happy with my pace. I seem to be getting used to the Focus more now.
Did it this morning, used the 1st stint of soft for the 1st 4 stages, then 1 rain for stage 5, then soft for stages 6-7, then the only medium for the rest; needless to say, I did stage 4 very slowly

I was probably top 5 until stage 9, when I bottled it with shunt + puncture :banghead: But I finished it, and that's all that matter

Yeah switching to Mediums to get a second set from the shakedown was the way to go. I find myself opting for an extra set of the harder compound on most of these rallies as tyres are in short supply and squeezing as much mileage as possible out of them is a recurring theme 😄

Yep, I did it like this also... Medium - Medium and then soft on last 3 stages. Didn't need the rains

That essentially sums it up, consistently inconsistent, I never really got into a rhythm. 😬

I did plump for the Wet tyres on S5 after the Evo started to resemble a freight tanker on S4 (where my faint aspirations of an event win were effectively laid to rest alongside my knackered mediums) and they did a good job as a stop-gap. Didn't make good use of the soft tyres on S6/7 at all, I had to nurse damage and power loss for the next 2 stages before (unsuccessfully) attempting to rob @Belgianwaffle of 2nd place.

I'm glad the next asphalt event is a long way off. :P

I was watching your times of the last 3 stages... You came very close with your damaged Mitsu 😉. I would have had no chance if your car was not suffering... But I'm happy with what looks like an almost certain podium in Spain. That would make it 4 podiums in a row, although never close to a win.

Retired on stage 9/10. Car was limping as I somehow hit something that killed the radiator and suspension so I was loosing a boat load of time. Shame as I felt I had decent pace.

Started off well but proceeded to absolutely destroy the car in the next few stages and it was hardly moving after a crash in one of the stages after a service and so I decided to retire from this one unfortunately

Three stages in, I had a **** myself moment in stage 2 where I clipped a rock which put me backwards on my side for a second or so, I thought I was going off the edge but I survived !

Spain wraps up our last tarmac event for a while, with a run of 6 gravel events before heading to Sanremo. On the smooth Catalunya tarmac, it was @Spinerkopin who guided their Impreza to victory, aehad of @Belgianwaffle making it a Subaru 1-2. @Dreadmed gives Mitsubishi a much needed podium finish.
@Spinerkopin flat out en route to victory.

Home hero Carlos Sainz could only managed P5 for Ford, with Colin McRae suffering fuel pump issues in his Focus.

Finished Sardegna, stage 8/9/10 are together and on 9 I managed to rip a tyre off in the last sector but battled through to finish the stage instead of stopping to change the wheel. Fortunately for stage 10 I had a spare so it got swapped over.
Enjoyed this rally especially the first half being wet and changing to dry. Tyres weren't so critical this time, I got quite a few stages out of the mediums in the middle of the rally then finished on the softs.

Another rally, and another retirement for me and the 206. Had a reasonable start but ended up retiring with broken steering.

This might be the end of the road for me and Peugeot. Very much considering changing at this point…if it’s allowed?

I've seen one or two other people switch things up, from an RP perspective you can always explain it away as running as a privateer for the remainder of the season. 😉

At the end of the day it's not like any of us have signed cast-iron contracts, this is still supposed to be enjoyable (if challenging!). Personally speaking I'd probably switch if I were in your shoes, persevering with a car that I'm struggling with just for the sake of it runs the risk of burning out altogether.

2 years ago, in 1998/99, Marcus Gronholm drove for 4 factory teams in 4 back to back rallies he entered so I don't think anybody will complain if you switch (unless you go in a Xsara 💩).

I had a season with the Peugeot in career mode, it didn't seem a enjoyable car to drive.

No rule against it, as others have said, it's not unprecedented in the club or in real life 😀. You've still got to have fun.

In the real 2001 WRC itself there were examples too. Gardemeister drove a factory Mitsubishi and privateer Peugeot, Gilles Panizzi drove for 2 different teams (both running Peugeots), Henning Solberg drove private Toyota Corolla and Subaru Imprezas, Neil Wearden drove a factory Subaru and privateer Peugeot and Roman Kresta drove a factory Skoda and privateer Ford.

Thanks guys, makes me feel better about changing. Really annoying as I hold the 206 WRC as a bit of a hero car in real life, so to not get along with it (despite trying countless set-up changes) is really disheartening. Really enjoyed Season 1 of this Club so have found the past few rallies quite tough.

Now to figure out what to change to...

Seat need some help 😆

I finished all stages today, already. Because I fear I won't find the time for it later this week.
Everything went well, I just tried to avoid a flat tyre... In other clubs I had quite a few in Sardegnia...

Sardegna is by far my favourite location of the game, I know most of the stages pretty well so I was hoping for a good result. I had a good pace but I'm still a bit disappointed, too many mistakes and off track moments. Plus I don't think I did the right choice for my first set of tyres. Luckily nothing that got me a lot of damage or penalties, but I may have lost something like 20-30 seconds overall. Sub 90min was definitely on the table. Let's see if that will cost me the first place at the end.

I expected to lose in Sardegnia, because I don't like it there (too many rocks 😂). But I didn't expect to lose by 3 minutes!! Well done!

Didn't have as good a start as I would've liked, had 2 half-spins and another moment due to my controller partially disconnecting 3 times inside the first 10 minutes of that mammoth opening stage... I was quite happy by the end of it, my 2 trial runs were both 21:30'ish.

S2+3 were quite promising in that I was keeping up with @Spinerkopin, annoyingly I missed a jump call midway through S4, ended up clipping the rocks which gave me a slow-ish puncture that I managed to drag back without changing.

Then this happened on S5...

Admittedly skirting way too close to peril for my own good but... well, I'll let everyone else be the judge of that "collision". 😑

I'll see if I can snag another rally win further down the line, as it is I'm considering myself out of the running for now... 1 DNF was always going to be a tall order to recover from, 2 is borderline terminal.

The first 7 stages went excellently. Then stage 8 and a particular rock happened that caused engine and rad damage. Got the car back to service for the last stage only to crash into a rock that was hiding half way through for a DNF. Two DNFs in a row isn't exactly ideal especially at a location I really like.
