WRC Modern Classics Season 2001! Rally Argentina

I'm still technically in the rally but my usual illness has surfaced again so I doubt I will finish the swedish round. It went terribly anyway. From the state I left the car after the last stage I had did SS4/5?) I doubt I would have reached the end.

Rally Sweden is complete, and the winter section of the 2001 season is complete. Just over 50% of the starters made it to the finish in a tough event, some challenging legs forcing drivers to nurse their cars at certain points. But plenty of action was on offer. In the end it was a win for @Spinerkopin at the wheel of the Subaru Impreza, beating @Dreadmed by just 6 seconds in their Mitsubishi. P3 was taken by @Belgianwaffle also in an Impreza. Congratulations to the podium finishers.

In the constructors, Subaru capitalise on Mitsubishi's lack of points by pulling a strong lead early on, Ford and Peugeot still in close proximity with plenty of rallies still to come.

The real rally Sweden saw issues for the 2 championship favorites, Marcus Gronholm had his event cut short on SS3 with his Peugeot suffering mechanical issues, whilst Tommi Makinen crashed out on the last stage of the event. That left Harri Rovanpera to take his first, and only, WRC victory in his Peugeot 206. beating out Swedish favorite Thomas Radstrom in his Mitsubishi. Carlos Sainz came home P3 for Ford.

Welcome everyone round 3 of the 2001 World Rally Championship, and the 35th TAP Rallye de Portugal. With heavy rain forecast for the first few days, we can expect a difficult challenge for the drivers on these rutted, rugged Portuguese roads. Take care on the numerous tarmac sections as the gravel and mud on the tyres will make the cars feel very unstable.

Just finished Portugal, what an intense rally. That 9th stage with the big jump at the end is awful, raining and with tyres that were past their best. I still enjoyed it

Will probably be my cleanest run through any rally this season, slightly messy last couple of stages but I had no real issues for the most part

That may have been the worst rally I've ever done... But I dragged that poor little Peugeot all the way to the end of the rally, and brought at least some points home for the Lion.
Fingers crossed everyone else has as bad an experience so I feel better

After two retirements it felt great to finish something!

I was really hopeful that Portugal would go smoother than Sweden, but I had a relatively light impact with a bush on SS1 that gave me severe radiator damage.

Crawled through SS2 but the damage was fairly terminal by that point. Service allowed me to get some bits repaired, but evidently not the bit that was causing my top speed to be limited to around 50mph :ouch: I started SS3, and got about half way through (it's an 18km stage!) and then my steering seemed to just give up. Had little choice other than to retire the car.

This was my final resting spot...and it's quite clear why my steering wasn't working

Not sure what it is with the Peugeot, but I seem to get radiator damage really easily...which inevitably leads to engine, turbo and gearbox problems. Wondering if this car was really the right choice at the moment...

SAME! It seems to be if you even hit a twig, radiator damage.

Better than the dodgy gearboxes the real ones had I suppose.

I made it... What a slippery rally with my nervous Subbie! I couldn't find the right setup. I had a few spins and sidesteps unfortunately. Mostly when on the supersoft tyres. I have a feeling they have less grip than the softs. Anyone else have that feeling, or is it just me?
I hope to still gather some points to defend my podium in the championship 😁

My tyres weren't too bad throughout other than stage 8 and 9, I started 8 with worn sorts and by the last third of 9 they had gone off. At the service stop they were red but I'd saved a set of new super sorts for the final stage. The Subaru did feel a little nervous on the wet tarmac but I enjoyed it. Just wish the car itself didn't sound like a fart on replays, there's some car audio in the game which are a bit off.

I'm mad at myself for Portugal, for once I was having a clean run (the radiator salesman who hangs around the service tent was gutted) but there were a few little things I wanted to get fixed, of course I misjudged the estimates and went half a minute over for a 10 second penalty. Not a big deal in itself but I had the bright idea to pick up the pace to try to recover the lost time which ended as you would expect with a immediate puncture and another 90 seconds dropped. After that I kind of lost my head and binned it another 300 times on the last 2 stages to well and truly destroy the car 🤦‍♂️

I think it's safe to say that there will be a new championship leader this time next week...

A triple mess-up on my end; Pre-shakedown I went and tweaked the gearing a smidge, only to then scroll over to start the stage instead of shakedown (a mistake I made multiple times in Season 1). Then that happened, a very avoidable clip of the rocks despite running the stage half a dozen times to try and find a settled set-up...

If I'd known I'd blown multiple tyres I would've swallowed the tyre-change penalty and tried to salvage something later on, as it was I thought I could just drag it to the end of the stage... alas, the game forcibly stopped me a few seconds after the other tyre came off the rim. :ouch:

Genuinely intrigued to see how many people end up finishing Portugal at this rate. Waiting for @RYAN (hope you're feeling better!) to just cruise on through with no problems and set fastest times along the way

I am sorry that my first post on here is an angry one😕
Just finished the second last stage in Portugal but the game ****ed somehow and i ended up getting stuck in a scene trying to stop by marshalls.
The car moving back and forward uncontrollable, i waited a long time but nothing happened, tried to reset car, nothing happened so had to close the game down and of course now i have no result from that stage and only option is to drive the last stage and getting no result for this round.
VERY frustrating after all effort put in and looking to finish somewhere near the top end...

Love the club and all effort put into this, excellent and expertly done!

Just noticed in the results one guy was using the 2008 Focus but only did two stages so far, and there's one entry with the Mini Countryman, not sure they're allowed

Yeah the Mini was on til the end I think. Be great if we could pick specific vehicle restrictions!

I also spotted a C4 WRC at Sweden, amazing how some people can't follow basic instructions

I understand your frustration... I would hate that happening to me... It was a nice battle... Real shame you won't be rewarded for it 🙄

Yeah all have been noted and kicked out. Repeat offenders will get banned. Frustrating but difficult to do anything about it without better club tools. What's doubly annoying is the times stay on the board after they've been removed.

Also annoying as the one who used the Mini, used the Focus 2001 in Sweden. It's their own time they're wasting.

Which stage messed up at the end, was it 8 or 9?
