WRC Modern Classics Season 2001. Safari Rally Kenya

Results for the previous round will be up soon. Busy weekend delayed things and then had a minor issue with the club to sort.

All good now though.
Ignore me, I'm getting ahead of myself.

Fell off a cliff after a few KM on the first stage, hasn't been my week, terminal on SS1 on the GTP club too.

Well that was going really, really well for the first 3 stages then on stage 4 on old tyres I fell off the road and a DNF. Shame that as I was in a really nice rhythm. 4th DNF in a row but on the plus side I had really good pace this time around

Considering what I've experienced before I'm amazed I didn't get a puncture on this run, annoyingly I also rolled off an embankment about 1km from the end at the final stage despite sternly telling myself to drag it to the end. 😑

It is a bit weird what the game classifies as an irrecoverable car, I did another dummy run on one of the stages (featuring the same series of switchbacks at the start of Karoutes) whilst purposefully throwing myself off in various places up that climb. Without exception I only got resets and penalties (of varying seriousness).

Almost a flawless run from my part, until Stage 6 (the longest one) where this little rock almost killed my engine. Luckily I had enough time to repair everything on the following service.

Then right at the start of Stage 8, I got distracted by irl stuff and jumped the start.
I want to maximize points for the next rallies so I can skip Croatia and Corsica 🤣

Well I was doing ok in Kenya until I hit that bloody tree, you know, the one that's all by itself on the semi straight bit. Oh well never mind lol

Rally Acropolis is complete, car have been broken, drivers have been beaten, but we have a result. @Spinerkopin continues an unbelievable season with another stunning victory in the Impreza, beating PickyReptile87 in the Focus by over 10 minutes(!). KurtF5 came home 3rd in the 2nd Impreza.

Welcome to the 49th Safari Rally Kenya. Along with Monte-Carlo, possibly the most famous rally in the WRC. Brutal terrain, high speed sections, ruts that tractors would struggle with, extreme heat and fesh-fesh to deal with. This rally will test man and machine like no other event will. The most stages of any event this season, type conservation and servicing will be crucial to succeed.

Besides some corner cut penalties, because of a bouncing car, I got pretty clean through this adventurous location... No major issues, not even in the service parks to my surprise... I wonder where I will end up in the final result of this one 🤞

Ended up having to miss the previous round sadly...and with no time to practice I'll be just hoping to get a safe and solid finish here 🤞

That tree yields for no man or machine...

Back to the present, I started off quite well despite being thrown off the road by those ruts (that were classified as "bumps" in the notes). Annoyingly I had a couple more severe interactions with them later on in addition to getting violently bounced off the road when I wasn't expecting it, so now I have to somehow find 30s in the Savanna section to overhaul @Belgianwaffle.

I hit a pothole/crater on stage 1 that spat my car into a tree, in hindsight I really shouldn't have just sent it through that corner. Aside from that issue on stage 1 Kenya went very well. Managed the keep it clean, or as clean as possible at a rally as rough as Kenya to finish 7th overall with 18h left.

Dived straight into Finland this morning...I was totally unprepared for how rutted and rough these stages would be. Definitely wish I'd spent some time testing with this level of degradation. Finding that this is actually more hard work than Kenya!

Needless to say, I've subsequently been jettisoned into the trees a few times already 😂

It's like a high speed railway with no brakes.

It's exactly that. Then if you do end up bouncing out of the ruts it's a case of crossing everything that you manage to avoid the plethora of trees lining the stages :scared:
