And I did beat the time but i still got rewarded silver? My friend did this too and he also got silver.. Anyone else had this?

57.558 may have been good enough for gold when you did it, but it certainly wasn't when I logged in last night! 57.25x was needed.
The targets are not fixed times, they're fixed percentage gaps to the top time. To get gold you need to be within 3% of the top time, silver is within 5% and bronze is within 10%. If the top time improves, the times needed to hit those marks also reduces.
When the time trial closed, the top time was a 55.586. To be within 3% of that and get gold you'd need a 55.253. Silver would be 58.365, and bronze would be 1'01.113.
