WRX Owners report

I hate to keep starting threads like these, but I want my hard earned money to go to a decent, reliable car.

Okay, I'm looking at an '05 Subaru Impreza WRX wagon. It has 64,000 miles on it and looks to be bone stock from the pictures. There is no aftermarket boost gauge (which 90% of used WRX's around here seem to have) and nothing under the hood seems to be out of place. I have an '02 Impreza Outback Sport and love the thing and I'm wondering what I can expect from the WRX.

Basically, I'm wanting to know how the maintenance is on a WRX as far as cost and what will need to be replaced soon, or if it's just like the maintenance on any other car. I need a reliable daily driver and it's either going to be a new Dodge Dart or a WRX. Also, the dealer is asking right at $11K for the car. I'm sure I can get it down a little but does that seem like a decent price for the condition and miles?

So I bought my 2005 Wrx Wagon like 3 years ago from a private seller for 11k (wanted 13k at first but I presented cash) with 67,000miles bone stock great shape. Maintenance is typical oil changes and standard upkeep so all the mileage markers that your outback most likely has. I blew the stock turbo in like 2 months of owning it, I wasnt driving that hard imo I was new to manual cars so I wasnt pushing it. If you are looking for a daily with no issues kind of car stay away from performance and if you start modding there is always a risk. You play hard you pay hard. Subarus are pricey as for parts compared to other cars. I love my car dearly and am never giving it up (paid off when I got it) but I have had more issues with it then any other car I have owned. To be fair and not so scary I have lots of friends with all sorts of different performance cars doms/imports and they all have there problems. Im now stage 2 fully tuned with STi parts and other fun mods.

I dont know what your plans are but it sounds like you want a faster car and no problems which for the most part if you leave it stock and dont floor it everywhere the car will hold up but like I said once you start integrating high power you run the risk. I havent had any issues with my 09 Legacy GT Limited which is totally stock still plenty fast but nicer on the inside.

You know mechanics or are one? I have learned a lot about scoobys since I bought mine, my best friend is a Subaru Master Tech so I have had lots of help and a wealth of info on them so it made it easier for me.

Thanks for the information. I know my way around engines but I'm a diesel guy (Cummins) and this WRX will stay stock. My truck will be my play toy so I don't plan on abusing the Subaru in any way, shape or form.

I've been extremely impressed with our '02 wagon and am hoping a WRX can provide the same sort of reliability.
