WTH is Owned anyway?!

Okay I'm going to lay myself bare here by saying I have no idea what the hell this "owned" crap is all about. First of all, what does it mean? Next, where did it originate? Finally, is it a trend to write it as pwn3d or something? Because that is annoying beyond explanation. It reminds me of how Bryce302 types.:banghead:

Hard to explain.

It's when someone counters you, or verbally ties you up in such a way that there's no way out.

"PWN3D" is ironic, since many kids think they have "owned" someone when in actual fact they are just dense retards and this is the kind of half-assed way they type.

I agree. Although "phat" is pretty poor. I wish they'd all "bling" off.

If you didn't know what owned meant up to this point, consider yourself blessed.

Yeah, it's one of the more useless things that I've learned from being a GTP junkie. Heck, I think I've typed the term out once or twice, too. It's a net-only term that's become quite overused, so I doubt anyone would say it in real-life, like w00t (although I'm sure some kids have tried).

Anyone that's ever typed out "pwned" or any stupid variant thereof more than once is automatically ignored on my end. Honestly, if you're over the age of 25, you shouldn't be using any trendy word more than once around here.

Which leads me to my next question, what the hell is wOOt? I see it all the time when someone wants to declare they've just reached their 500th or 1000th post. What gives?

w00t is just an expression of joy or happiness used by punks and little people who want to be looked upon as cool. I don't know the exact origin of the word, but I do know it has become popular among the hacker-wannabes. Also, I'm glad that you are sensible enough to not just start imitating the "crowd," just makes my day when someone 'new' stays out of the crap trends of the illiterate masses of the internet. Might be a little late, but welcome aboard. :)

Thank-you. I have always abhorred those who refuse to use capitals and punctuation in their posts, failing to realize that it is the typing equivalent to someone who can't speak very well. All it shows is that they are, in fact, uneducated.

'w00t' pretty much means, 'yipee' or 'wahoo'.
'Owned'/'pwned'/'pwnd'/'ownd' means you have been 'had' or you have been beaten. Whether in some sort of verbal argument or a 'my cars faster than yours' kind of thing.

Yet another blow to the younger members of GTP.

or quite lazy. im making a point to not use puctuation in this specific post, despite using it in most of my others. its a laid back way of communicating, and i can see why people do it, although it is rather annoying when thats ALL people are capable of doing. i do it on AIM because i see it as just talking. its not like im writing an english paper or anything.

It's okay once in a while, but most people who do it do it all the time. And I don't hate the absence of capitals as much as stupid shorthand writing, like ppl and ez and crap like that. At least you still use periods when you're in a relaxed state of mind!

That it is. Certain acronyms like "brb," "bbl," "ttyl," and other time-savers are useful in casual conversation over Instant Messenger, but in forum conversation they have no place (because you can always post an abridged version of your message and go back to edit it later or maybe just expound upon it).

Then ther r the ppl hu talk liek dis all the time, and it annoys the b'jesus outa me.

What is LMOA? Tht's the one that gets me.
It's actually LMAO, and it means "Laughing my a$$ off." There's also ROTFL, rolling on the floor laughing, and some bright young future citizens like to insert an "f" into these mixes, such as LMFAO. You can guess what the F stands for...

Owned is one of the most unsurpassed catchphrases of all time. It’s miraculous and all of you know it. For some reason I love being “owned”. It’s great! Although I do agree that people use it too much.

You guys should see my Owned Thread. It’s awesome and everyone knows it.

All kidding aside, it is getting quite annoying. When I made the Owned Thread, it was cool and not everyone was using it. Now it’s overused, like the word “bling”.

Bling Bling.

Well OWNED has been covered along with its many other types such a phwned and so on.

Now one of my favorite physic jokes...Ωed. See if you can't figure it out.

Now with w00t it was started with the hackors or haxors that used to hack into a database and when they finished they left the message of w00t signifing that they won or they beat them. So thats the quick lesson on that.

Stufu!! My three-year-old says this all the time. I just found out what it means. He's grounded for a month.

Yeah owned, powned, ownd, pownd, own3d and pown3d mean you've been bummed out. You look like the a$$.

HA!!!!! I've noticed that I've been using these words a fair bit over here NZ. Virtually no one knows what they mean. They are like WTF?!?!? everytime I say something. Wow. The impact that GTP has had on me. :dopey:👍

It's "STFU" Solid... I was quite surprised when I learnt it myself. And WTH is "BUMP"
