I just had my first rain race in the X2010.
I don't know if the rain was harder than normal (does the rain have levels?) but there was lightning and thunder.
Anyway, from the cockpit view I could literally not see anything.
That bubble canopy was completely obscured by the water streaks.
I had to try running from bumper and roof cam, because it was impossible to see from the seat.
If this car was modeled after what they would create in real life given the chance, I don't think it would be usable in any rain conditions!
Has anyone else noticed this?
Of course, then X2010 doesn't have windshield wipers.
Are there any other cars that become impossible to see out of in cockpit view when it is raining?

Also, why does the car have two speedometers? One in the HUD and one on the wheel?
First off, race cars don't have speedometers, let alone have two of them!
And why does it show the speed in KPH, even if you have your options set to MPH (which every other car appears to obey)?

Same, I did the 10 lap Super GT in it on Sazuka. First 5 laps it was light rain, so I could see, but after that, it came down really hard. Couldn't see anything.

All cars do that I think.

Not sure, one is accurate and goes up with the car, and very fast. The other goes up slower, and very jerkily.

Yes rain has levels.

Agree...I was more than ticked when trying to practice with my Vettel X1 on Dream Car Championship only to find out I can't see anything with it raining. And therefore having to switch to bumper or 3rd person to do the rain races. Oh well....that's the least of my initial complaints about this game (which after the latest updates the complaints are dwindling). With that said I'm surprised more haven't complained about it. (The X1 and rain)

Right at this moment i'm watching one of my Bob's lap the Ring in the Dream Championship in the X2010 and its chucking it down , the idiot is still doing over 240mph in places :dopey:

His lap times are suffering a bit though as he's only doing 8:21:506

EDIT

The Mad Fool has just hit 256MPH on the Main Straight , he needs his head examined

Oh Bob with his testicular fortitude and pea for brain....:D

Have you switched to cockpit view to see what your Bob is seeing?
It's hilarious!

He he. Did that race with the Toyota Nascar in cockpit view with heavy rain for all 10 laps. Sweaty hands on the steering wheel indeed!

Well, look at real life Formula 1, they DO drive in raining weather and their F1 don't have Wipers too.

The problem comes from the shape of the glass over the cockpit.
F1 drivers have no roof, just their helmets.
And as a motorcycle rider, I can tell you that with a little RainX, you can see fine even at fairly high speeds in a hard rain.
A combination of the shape of the helmet and the distance of your eyes to the visor make seeing through the rain quite manageable.
Certainly nothing approaching the blindness that is shown in the X2010.

I was watching the whole race from the in car view , i don't know who was more scared me or Bob

Gotta agree the Canopy is a Stupid idea in the rain 👍

Rain for me is hard anyway, especially when all you can see is kick up spray from other cars, it's impossible. But in that thing......oh my gooooooooooooosh!

I've found the rain on the windshield glitches occasionally and "flashes" on and off which is pretty distracting.

Also, the numbers on the wheel are engine revs, aren't they?

Correct me if i'm wrong, but all cars in Japan show the speed in KPH, so I guess that's why it's like this in GT5?

You could be right.

The car has two speedometers for a good reason. Your travelling so fast that you can only afford a fraction of a second to glance at the speedometer. The upper speedometer is set in a position where you only have to drop your line of sight slightly to see it. It updates slowly so that you can read it at a glance, as opposed to the "true" speedometer which rises and falls so fast it takes about twice as long to actually take in the information.

The "true" one exists because I imagine all cars need to have a proper one.

Am I the only one who doesn't find it too difficult to drive the X1 in the rain using cockpit view? Probably the force acting up:lol:

An open air cockpit isn't much better lol.

At least use some Rain-x on it.

With those speeds, and a almost horizontal windshield, the rain should just peel of.

And theres alot of substances that repels rain easy, like !!soap!! :P Used it all the time on my gogles when i was on the snowboard.

The canopy is probably meant to come off in the rain or something.

With the speeds that thing can do, you shouldn't need wipers. Especially with a little Rain-X. Just another graphical inconsistency fail.

My real life car's wipers don't work. I use Rain-X, and if I'm going 40mph or faster, I can see perfect. Better than wipers. At an insane 200+ mph, the rain should be pretty much non-visible on the windshield.

X1 is horrific at speed in the wet... try a NASCAR at the Ring, dark, heavy rain. Thats some bad 🤬

that is what you see in the rain. I'ts blinding; look at the Korean F1 GP in 2010. They delayed the race for hours, cancelled qualifying on saturday because they just couldn't see. I'm very happy with the rain visibility in cockpit view in GT5. I actually wish that they had that same effect in all the other views, bumper cam and hood cam.

That sums it up perfectly. Thats why the "change gear light" is positioned where it is. it's in the line of sight. Also all modern race cars display all kind of information on their steering wheels/ MoTeC displays; since you cant riffle through all the different displays, like tyre temps, brake temps, rpm etc etc, PD just set the X1's display default at Speed. Which kinda answers your next question:

And why does it show the speed in KPH, even if you have your options set to MPH (which every other car appears to obey)?

i have mine set to MPH and while the game's HUD is in MPH the speed readout of cars is set default to the nation's speed reading. KPH in the UK, Japan, Canada Germany; MPH in the USA. It's hardwired by PD so it doesnt change with the setting you put in the game.

Isnt the X2010 from Austria?
And isnt Austria using mph? :dunce:

It's news to me if race cars have no speedos...how do people obey pit limits

RPMs. They know that say 4000 RPM in 2nd gear equals 45 mph.
Also, newer cars have a pit rev limiter that prevents exceeding the pit speed.

The x1 has no windshield wipers be because of it's "unaerodynamicness". As for the speedometer thing, the bottom one is for revs and the top one is for kph speed. One last thing, if you don't want a HUD speedo, then just take it off! Its not permanently there:rolleyes:
