So I was watching my X2010 pit a few minutes ago and I realized that the game blatantly ignores the fact that the wheels on the car are covered and parts of the body would need to be removed in order to actually change the tires. So I was wondering... this is supposed to be the most amazing fantasy race car of the future, but IF the car were real, then in a race long enough to require a pit stop wouldn't the fact that parts of the body would need to be removed EVERy time they wanted to change out the tires actually negate most of the extra speed that the car has.... I know its fantasy but it just seems weird to me that they would design the car in such a way when to me its not realistic to cover those lug nuts up KNOWING that quick tire changes are a necessity. Any thoughts?

The side panel that covers the wheels is necessary for its performance. You ever see how they can change a new front wing in F1? like 5-10 seconds. Sure there is a similar procedure of removing the light carbon fiber so the wheels can be replaced.

and btw if the tire changing is a lengthy process, its the same for the other teams. So nobody loses out.

Its about max performance, not racing.

Who ever said it would take part in a race?...
As tissimo said it's about performance, ON TRACK.

The car is not designed to race, but merely to be the fastest at what it does. It conforms to no rules, so whats to say in the race series it would race in it would require tire changes?
However the biggest design flaw I can think of in the pit lane is the guy with the Fuel can. He's either pouring fuel on to the car or in to the hot exhaust!

How long would it take to remove the covers? 2 seconds? Parts in racing are designed to be changeable quickly.

There was that Nissan in GT4 with covered rear wheels but it was hinged.

Pretty much this.

Although its designed for purely performance, its interesting to see how it'd fare in a race. I'd imagine the side covers on the wheels would have 4 guys with some tool that can make them snap on and snap off. It wouldn't add much to the pit stop time.

Yeah it also ignores G-Lock...and err reality.

When I was doing Indy 500 A-spec and I pitted for tires and fuel, the tires would go straight through the wheel covers like they weren't there:dopey:

If it were real and they managed to overcome the many huge issues of driving the thing itself, i'm pretty sure they could come up with a way to quickly remove the covers when changing wheels. Similar to when F1 cars had stupid wheel covers I guess, but on a slightly larger scale.

But yeah, wheel covers are a tiny problem of this car being a reality.

The XJR-9 is the same.

Do you know how long Formula 1 pit stops are? 2 seconds (per wheel) wouldn't add much time?

Doesn't the real-life Jaguar XJR-9 have this "problem"?

Actually, what does it look like when you do a pit stop with the XJR-9 in the game?

What about the XJR-9 and The Nissan R89C? Anyway in something as fast as the X2010 you wouldn't need fast pitstops would you?

Not if everybody is driving something equally as fast:sly:

Yeah I do, around 3-4 seconds, last season. Slightly longer when refueling was allowed.

Why would it be 2seconds per wheel? Similar F1 pitstops, you'd have 4 people removing the cover and replacing it, 4 people removing the part that keeps the tyre in place, 4 people removing the tyre, and 4 people replacing the tyre. It'd be 4 more people taking part in the pitstop than it already is for F1. It'd add approx 2seconds per 4wheels, not 1.

Also, even if the X2010 became a reality, it would probably only be allowed to compete with other X2010s, so the additional pit stop time isn't a major issue as everyone would be affected. If it competed against other cars, not X2010s, then it still wouldn't matter as the X2010 would just annihilate everything that it could have 30s pit stops and still win..

Wheel covers are nothing new. In F1 they had them for a few years before they were banned last year. The wheel covers where attached to the wheel so changing them was an afterthought.
