The intertubes are aflame with rumors about the X360, and I figured this was a good place to discuss.
The $50 Price-Cut
Showing up on the interweb late last week, signs of a $50 price-cut on the X360 here in the US are spreading. First was a Wal-Mart ad:
And now a Toys 'R' Us Ad joins the fray:
Microsoft won't confirm or deny whats going on, but it looks as though the cuts are coming in the second week of August, about three weeks away. Assuming it is a price break across the board, it would put the "Core" systems at $250, "Premium" systems at $350, and "Elite" systems at $430. Fair cuts indeed, but nobody really knows if it is completely true or not. A good thing? I'd assume so. Those who were on the fence, waiting for a price cut certainly have their reasons now... Furthermore, if these price cuts include systems that had games packaged with them, you could almost consider it a $100 price cut.
...I'm all for it...
Dropping "Core" Units
Its important to note that over on Digg.com, several Best Buy Employees have been saying that it hasn't shown up on their computers yet. But, if the rumor is true, this may be the end of the not-loved "Core." Its about time really, as they haven't sold well, and even if they were to sell to "casual" gamers, they weren't.
...This should also offset the Bizarre (PGR4) claims that the disc space is filling up too quick and that they need a solution for space, furthermore that COD4 has a sticker on the bottom of the box that requires the HDD or the Memory Card...
We'll see.

Dropping "Core" Units
JoystiqFor those hoping that the expected $50 Xbox 360 price cut would bring the Core model down to the Wii-diculously great price of $250, we got some bad news. According to a source at Best Buy who sent Joystiq these images, the Xbox 360 Core model is dead and remaining stocks are all that's left of the system.
The sheet, according to our source, shows the description of the Xbox 360 Core hardware and underneath it is the word "deleted, meaning it is being taken out of the system." The out of stock date reads 7-29-07 and the larger image (found after the break) shows the pref code "y." According to the source, "This means replenishment of this item is not expected."
In a statement from July 16, when we originally heard rumblings that the Xbox 360 Core was over, a Microsoft spokesperson told us in regards to it being discontinued, "No. Xbox 360 Core remains an important member of the Xbox 360 family." Well, if the Best Buy papers end up being true, an important part of the family is about to swim with the fishes. Like Fredo from The Godfather, it breaks our hearts. We've contacted Microsoft to see if they'd like to revise their "important member" statement.
