XBOX 360 Steering Wheel? Has anyone tried a DFP?

I've bought and returned 2 xboxes because I can't find a good steering wheel. The last time I tried was when Forza came out. The Fanatec wheel was OK but ultimately realizing that a new xbox was due in 6-8 mos I thought it would be a waste to buy a game system and steering wheel for 1 game. So I've opted to wait and see what happens with the 360. Does anyone know about steering wheel development for the 360. Is Logitech going to make one? Fanantec? Will they be ready at release time? I'm an old fart and don't get along with DS2 or that type of controller for driving. I can't teach my fingers to do what I've been doing with my feet for so long. Plus somehow it just seems like a driving game ought to be done with a steering wheel. Any info would be appreciated.

My concern exactly. The lack of proper feedback in Xbox racing games was a tremendous letdown for me.

If the 360 won't support the Driving Force Pro, or at least something significantly better so I won't feel like a total idiot having to buy another expensive wheel, it has already failed in my eyes.

yeah I'm hoping that they at least support the DFP and other usb devices, and hopefully (since they announced that they're partnering with logitech on next-gen peripherals during e3) that they release a kick ass wheel for it.

PGR3, Forza 2, Rallisport 3 (if they make one) would kick ass with a wheel.

I read something recently that indicated MS wanted kick backs from peripheral manufacturers to be able to have compatible controllers & stuff. It made it sound as if MS would have to give (sell) each manufacturer something (secret code or whatever) that would make the device communicate with the Xbox 360. If that's true then I wouldn't think that the DFP would work. Unless there would be some sort of software driver that could be installed? Don't know much about this stuff. It seems that Bill Gates doesn't have enough of his own money...he wants all of ours too. They probably will specifically lock out any device that might've ever worked with a PS or was even ever on a shelf near one. If no steering wheel's available the Xbox I have on reserve will be sold to someone else. I was hoping maybe some of the MS steering wheels for PCs might work...they seem a little better made than Xbox steering wheels I've seen.

Well the Xbox360 is supposed to have usb drives..and if it has internet connectivity it's possible for it to have driver updates and what not...

but then again Driver updates = conflicts...Especially with Ms..
So i dunno..Maybe they will maybe they won't..
maybe they'll get another company to make something to compete.....

But I think MS realizes how hard they were hit with the lack of perif. devices...So hopefully(i would think) they'd learn from that

Almost correct..

M$ will be the sole approver on all peripheral things Xbox 360.. They don't find it good enough - Screw it. It's BETTER than theirs - Screw it.. You made a better product for the PS2 once - Screw You and everything with your name on it ! (And the horse you rode in on)....

Good one M$... Really good !....

well i dunno if you guys have seen the video, but at an e3 test booth, i noticed the wheels they were using were MODIFIED DFP's! yes DFP's exactly, just with xbox ABXY buttons, the exact layout and everything of the dfp. if this comes to light, maybe they will release a dfp tailored for the xbox 360?

Sounds good. Let's hope!

Although if the PS2 DF Pro isn't also compatible, I'm going to be ... :grumpy: :D

Am I the only one who prefers a pad over a wheel?

for project gotham racing? definitely not.

but for realism and to further the illusion of actually driving, it's way more fun with a wheel.

If it plugs in...(usb)...then won't it just depend on wether or not the game supports it?
I mean, I can plug in either one of my wingman wheels to the PS2 but have limited functionality with GT4 but some of the buttons still function, the game just doesn't recognize the rest.
Same with the DFP on the PC. Drivers had to be updated for you to get full capability.
So, game is written to contain drivers for certain wheels and they are usb...they should work right?
(Unless 360 hardware or bios specifically prohibits wheel x or brand x)

I,m also waiting to see what kind of Steeling wheels will come out for Xbox 360, i only buy one. If they have ones supporting PC's and PS2's aswell as the Xbox 360.

There could be converters out for Xbox Steering wheels in the future mates.

Has anyone tried a DFPwith the 360 yet? What about a MOMO Force (red)? Or anything that worked? Does the 360 have USB ports?

Thanks for testing. I've been waiting to find this news out. Hopefully, through xbox live, they can update some drivers to support this wheel. Its a big deciding factor for me to purchase an XBOX 360. Its gotta have a good Force Feedback wheel.

that would be great if MS released something to allow this wheel to work on the 360, however I think Sony might have a big problem with that.

Of course I also did a real test with the DFP and PGR3/RR6 on XBOX360 (the USB plug on the picture is plugged into the memory card slot). The 360 simply does not recognize the wheel. You can´t even play RR6 with the D-pad on the wheel. There is a special XP driver for the DFP which I use for PC games, but it is useless for the console. The only USB hardware I got working with my 360 is an MS keyboard.
