I've always like sim racing on my PC for serious stuff, but for more the boy-racer side of me, I've always liked dabbling in the GT series and/or Forza. I bought a Ps4 at release thinking that GT7 or at least a version of GT6 would be soon to follow on the console, but as we see there isn't a GT planned until 2016 at the earliest. So that got me thinking of Forza on the XB1 and trading my Ps4 in for it.

So the Forza's on XB1, are they at least as good as the earlier Forza's on XB360? Or too arcadey? Worth trading up the PS4 for some decent racing action? Just curious since I'm also about to buy a good wheel for Christmas and will need one that is either PS4/PC or XB1/PC compatible. Sucks they dont' have a wheel that is compatible with all three.

Forza Horizon 2 is very fun and very much worth playing. I do have Forza 5 aswell, but I haven't found it to be even close Forza 4.

That's my opinion though, and I think FH2 is better than any of the current PS4 racing games, though Project Cars will most likey be better on PS4. But I have that on PC. :P

FH2 doesn't appeal to me because I'm not a fan of the open world, Need for Speed style street racing games. I like circuits to be the main focus with some deviance from that but not much. Like the point a to b style in GT5 was fine, but not open world roaming. Not my cup of tea. Now I've not played FH2 and I might have the complete wrong perception on what it is, so correct me if I'm wrong.

Like you, I prefer circuit racing but FH2 is quite the treat. Both FM5 and FH2 have the best physics to date (within the franchise), cruising around the open world is what's to be expected but with the handling and scenery I say its a must have for any racing/car fan on Xbox One.

With that being said, if you dont have an open mind when it comes to driving, stay clear as the racing can get a tad "bananas".

I can respect that. If the handling is good then I'll most likely pick it up. One thing I hated about the open world racers was the physics. While Forza's and GT's aren't like real sims, they are "real" enough to be fun and not feel like a Taxi arcade game.

Just wait for Project CARS on the PS4. At the moment I also look at the Forza games, and as a PS4 user I’m a bit jelly, but will not switch to Xbox just for that.

Wow, you picked up PS4 for release for racing game, GT7 already

Anyways have you tried Driveclub ? That game really tempts me to buy PS4. Apart from that all other racing games in on PC as well. FH2 is on 360. Xbone, you will have to check the differences. My suggestion is that it is bad idea to buy a console for a game or even handful of games. If you are not using your PS4 much you should probably get rid of it since you game on PC. When you feel there are at least 10 games or you simply have to buy it for GT7. Then get PS4 GT7 bundle whenever they release it

Oh you mean Crazy Taxi? :p

As for current gen racers you would probably be more in favor of FM5 considering what you've said. Id steer clear of Driveclub as your concern for the physics on open world games would probably apply to that game as well, from what I've heard. Content wise, yes FM5 is lacking compared to the last game, but physics wise its a good step ahead from the others.

Now comes the hassle on deciding if its worth it to switch over just for that game, for now. As @drandiiski said, Pcars comes out, but still it comes out on both consoles, so it still depends on what you'd rather have.

I agree 100%. I truly loved F4. FH2 is a lot more fun than F5 by a longshot. FH2 also has a demo you can check out to see if you will like the game. Overall F5 is fairly disappointing as a Forza fan IMO. For sim circuit racers, I still think F4 was the best I have ever played on a console.

Oh in that case get it, very well done in the physics department, you'll be happy!
I agree. FH2 is a blast. One of the most fun racing games I have played in years. It is also WAY better than FH1. I personally did not even like FH1 but I am loving FH2. Massive improvement over the first game. 👍

I got burnt out of FH2 way faster than I thought I would, I havent picked it up in over a month, and it barely came out. FM held my interest much longer, and thats probably because I felt like my tunes actually did something, and found a sense of accomplishment making a fast car.

Racing felt more like demolition derby, whether it was intentional or not.

I popped it in the other day, other games have controlled me, ha, but it was just how I remembered. With the new cars I had fun with some. Also I had 3+ mil but after the rewards im now sitting at 7 mil....what to buy?

Like @gtracedriver1 suggested, Driveclub should fulfil that need for you - it's a sort of arcade, has mostly circuits but with point-to-point for the rest and isn't open-world. Furthermore, there is a fair bit of free monthly update support planned for the next eight months, and with the fairly cheap season ticket, you get even more on top (challenges and car packs.)

The physics are real enough for fun, there is no tuning and the races are plenty of fun with a fair bit of violence, which can escalate if you want it to.

I'll leave the F5 and FH2 comments to others, as I've never played them.

While I agree its the top racer right now for PS4, his reasoning for not wanting open world games was because the dullness of the physics, so going off that I would assume Driveclub wouldnt be to far off of that. It sounds like he's interested in something more realistic.

This is not a knock on Driveclub, however.

I actually tried Driveclub when it first came out. While it was a decent game, I got bored quickly with it as it didn't seem like it was challenging enough.

Yeah, for some reason I was under the impression that GT6 was coming to PS4 a little after the PS4 released. My PS3 broke about 2 weeks before GT6 released so I was pissed of course. So instead of buying another PS3 for GT6, I got a PS4, again thinking it was going to release on the PS4.

If you get a kick from mastering a car by learning its traits and when/where to apply throttle or finesse, Forza 5 will be hugely satisfying. It's so punishing compared to FM4 that I simply don't understand those who bemoan its lack of content. The addition of open-wheelers and the Rolls Royce Wraith in free DLC gives incredible variety without scores of low-end hatches filling out the bottom end of the roster.

As great a game as Horizon 2 is, the physics of 5 are so demanding that I can't bond with the former as deeply as I feel with 5.
