just getting ready to start racing, Haven't got steering and pedals yet trying to decide on XBox or PS3, Which has the best graphics? I cant afford to go pc yet.
Help me decide,
Thanks

Gfx are very similar, too similar to make the difference. What kind of racing game do you want. If you want it for racing it is basically do you prefer forza or gran turismo? The other titles you can get for both.

Normally, I'd say XBox if you're looking for the better performing system.

However, it all changes when you're looking to go in to sim racing. Regardless of whether you prefer Forza or Gran Turismo better (This isn't a GT Vs. Forza thread, please don't make it one), there are definite advantages to the PS3.

The main one is hardware selection. On PS3, there are a very wide selection of quality steering wheels/pedals to choose from (ie Logitech G27, which is not available on XBox). But with a 360, if you're looking to get a quality wheel, expect to have to pay $400 plus for a Fanatec, as there is really isn't anything else compatible.

Given this is a Gran Turismo forum, you'll probably get mainly PS3 biased answers.

I haven't seen any of these yet GT Vs. Forza so dont know which one is better,
I like to race Nascar,
Thanks for all the info,

PS3 just because of the wheel selection. I like forza more the GT5 but you can only get fanatec for the 360 and if your short on money you can get a DFGT for the ps3 for around 100$.

Don't 'think' Forza has Nascar, GT5 does. Someone will confirm/correct Forza.

Wow, I didn't realize the wheel selection was so poor for the 360. For $400 you might as well get something like the Thrustmaster F1 racing wheel.

I believe both GT5 and Forza have NASCAR.

Edit: GT5 has licensed NASCARS, Forza has fake/unlicensed ones.

Here is the GT Vs. FM thread.

No, the cheapest Fanatec is $250. It's a great deal.

Ps3 , In terms if customization (visual) forza wins but real driving experience and better online gameplay GT5 wins hands down

What is your main concern car customization or driving experience? And also i personally like Ps3 because of it's exclusive games i have both and forza is just unrealistic when you steer you feel like your gonna powerslide but if you compare the visual customization and things that involve the look of your car forza sh*** over GT and it has a real drag mode not like in GT

But because of realism i chose Gt 👍

I want realism,

Save until you can. PC racing sims are so far ahead of console "sims" it's ridiculous (you can only get realism on PC, which is what you say you want) and if you buy a console now you'll be even further away from being able to afford joining the PC master race ;)

That's his opinion obviously.
My opinion is that his opinion is wrong in my opinion.

PS3:

better racing games
more racing games
more wheels to choose from
free on line play
better system and graphic
cheaper console and cheaper games

If realism is your priority, safe up until you can get a PC. The best selection of actually realistic sims.

If it's strictly PS3 vs. X360... Well, it depends. With the 'Box, you're basically limited to Fanatec, but those wheels are damn good and worth the price. With the PS3, you've also got Logitech as a popular option and those wheels are obviously quite good and not as expensive. You can get great deals on the consoles themselves, not much of a difference there.

Personally, I'd recommend to get your hands on GT5 and Forza 4 and just see for yourself which one you prefer, as that's basically the biggest influence on your decision. I, for one, prefer Forza, as I like the content better and thing it drives a bit better, but that, as you've probably noticed already, is a bit subjective.

I can't stress enough that it'd be the best decision to just keep saving up for a PC. Because, well...

Well, Project CARS is going to be on consoles too (just wont look quite as good), and you can't join in on the pre-alpha anymore so either way you'd have to wait for release.

Still, it'll obviously be better on a halfway decent PC, plus with a PC you also get rFactor 2, Asetto Corsa, RBR, etc and have much much more flexibility in controllers and gadgets.

--

Personally, I prefer Forza over GT5, hate the dual shock 3, and ps3 would be my last choice on where to play a multiplatform game...that said, you should probably get a ps3 over a 360 for racing.

Right now I have to buy wheel and pedals a cockpit and a system it would be to much to try and get a good pc right now, I want good hardware so can move on to pc later down the road,
Thanks

You'll be shelling out 300 bucks or whatever for a console, even though the generation is rather close to its end, despite wantiing to move onto a PC later? I mean, it's your choice, of course. But wouldn't that just be a waste of the money for the console?

Just sayin'.

NASCAR on GT5 kind of sucks. It has better physics, but overall it isn't as good as a NASCAR. As for system I think XBOX is the way to go. (coming from a guy who has owned nothing but playstation his whole life.)

I can get a used ps3 for around $150 a good computer would be around $1000, I can at least start playing with the ps3 and save for the pc.
I have $1500 to spend and I want good hardware wheel, pedal, cockpit, that will take most of my money for now.
Thanks

You could easily get a decent PC that will run anything at pretty high settings, a good wheel, pedals, and cockpit for 1500$ with probably a little left over. Then you could save for the triple monitors. PC really is the only way to go if you are wanting to really get into sim racing. I fought off the PC for years, and finally built one a few years ago, and haven't played a console racing games since. There's just so many more options on PC when compared to consoles. Right now is the time to go PC too. Several great sims getting ready to come out within the next year, and a bunch of great sims already out for it.

As far as consoles go. If you are wanting to go PC one day, then get a ps3. That way you have more options for wheels then just the one Fanatec wheel. Plus the PS3 has ferarri challenge which is probably the best game as far as Force feedback goes on consoles.

How much would a good pc cost? And would I have to build it or can you get one off the shelf?

To get the most for your money you would need to build it. There are some decent options for prebuilt but it's gonna cost you a little more. I'm sure you could probably get a 600$ PC together that would do alot better then you think it would. Building them is not hard at all either. There are plenty of youtube videos and forum devoted to PC gaming and building. It's all pretty much color coated or labled now so anyone can put one together.

There have been many PC build threads is here about trying to get one together cheap. Check out the computer sub section and look at some of those threads and you can see what it would cost you.

You could probably do an AMD system that would be around the 500-600$ mark that would get you playing any game out there. It wouldn't be running the newest games at the highest settings but it would run them well and look better then any console games out there. Once you play a game at actual 1080p it's hard to go back and play console games. It almost hurts your eyes to try and make them focus on them.

Maybe go look at overclock.net at some of their build threads. They will havethreads already made for every price range there is.

You figure 600$ for the PC. If you already have an older PC with a decent power supply, case, hardrive, keyboard and all that this could be possibly even cheaper. It just depends on what you could recycle from the old computer.
250 for a G25
500$ shipped for an obutto ozone and you would be in there.
Pc gaming doesn't have to cost a fortune. It's only like that if you need the latest and greatest hardware. With black friday coming up I bet there will be some killer deals on motherboard and CPU combos as well as some decent graphics card prices.

Like I said earlier don't be afraid to build your own. It really isn't that hard. Everything is labled and really easy to get into place. The only thing to worry at all about it putting the CPU into the motherboard, but as long as you are carefull and don't force anything you would be fine.
