Hey guys, welcome to my car thread.

As some of you may know, I used to drive a 2014 Ford Escape. I liked that car, however the monthly payments on it were getting to be a bit too much, and I really had no use or need for an SUV. Luckily, my mom needed a new car, and she loves the Escape, so she accepted to take it off my hands.

This meant that I was back in the market for a new car, I wanted something much smaller, but that would still have the refinement and comfort of the Ford, and that would also be great to drive. I looked at everything from Fiat 500s to pre-owned BMWs. Finally I made up my mind last month, and took delivery of my new car just in time for Christmas.:cheers:

Its a 2015 VW Golf TSI!

The pictures aren't the best because the weather is typically Canadian, but they do show how vibrant the colour of the car is. I'll make sure to get some better pics as soon as I can!

Yep its the 1.8 Turbo. To be honest I haven't noticed much about it yet, this is my first manual car so changing gears takes up about 90% of my concentration at the moment.:lol:

It is extremely quiet though, which is always nice when coming back home after a long day at work.

Thanks guys.:)

A few small updates: first of all, this happened a week ago (sorry for blurry picture, my stupid phone was refusing to focus for some reason).

The car's actually at 1600km already, at this rate I might be in trouble with my dealer, the car's a lease and I shouldn't be putting more then 20k a year on it.:lol:

Also got a set of custom-fit Golf winter mats for Christmas. Identical to these ones:

Really love the car. The only complaint I have is the very weak sound system. Even with the Bass set at +9 (the maximum) you can hardly feel it. Also it seems to distort high notes to the point that if the volume is too high, the pitch starts hurting my eardrums quite badly. Unfortunately can't do anything about this unless I choose to buy the car at the end of my lease in 4 years.

I drove one of these a couple weeks back for a few days. I agree it was quiet, the engine is really nice - pulled strongly at full throttle. My only complaints were the effort required to shut the drivers door when all the windows are up, and the AT transmission wasn't the best. But since you have the manual, problem fixed!

The Golf Mk7 has notchless doors, so they can be left at any angle, but they are a bit heavier than others.

No sure if other new cars are like that.

Golf = Good
Petrol = Very good
Balls for a colour = awesome
Manual = :bowdown:

Very nice. Enjoy your Rabbit 👍

(those tiny tiny wheels though.... :scared: )

I mean you practically have to slam it to get it to close all the way.

They aren't normally like that. On another new VW a stiff door seal caused the door to need a slam to be closed properly. Could be that.

Thanks!

New wheels are definitely in the plans. I'm not sure which ones to go for at the moment, I really like the Mk.7 GTI ones, but they're quite expensive ($600 for 1 wheel:scared:). One way or another I'd have to get new summer tires as well so this is going to set me back at least $1500, I won't have that kind of money until the summer.

The doors are a bit on the heavy side, but then again pretty much everything in this car is, even the glovebox lid. Part of what gives it a solid, quality feel in my opinion, I got used to it pretty quickly.:D

Bad news today. While filling up with petrol, I have discovered this:

This is the weather stripping (I think that's the right term?) on the rear passenger door. I've no idea how or when this happened. Its possible that I did it myself while scraping ice off the window, however I am always very careful when doing this, and it would take a pretty big knock to deal that kind of damage so I doubt it. Other then that I really have no idea, its mighty frustrating though as the car's only 3 weeks old.🤬

When it warms up a bit outside, I might look into replacing it myself if it is feasible, so any advice would be appreciated.

Have you tried pulling it back out?
Or is it broken off?

Its not broken off but I can't pull it back out either. Maybe that is party because its constantly below -15C outside so the rubber is rock hard, I guess I'll find out when the spring comes.:indiff:

Since you just recently purchased the car, I would mention this to the dealer or sales rep you purchased the car from and see if they can repair it for you. You should have a warranty and I am sure your dealer would be more than happy to fix something like that for you for free.

Also nice car. I have always liked the VW Golf cars.

Why not try heating it up to pull it out? Then when it cools it'll stay there.

Or roll down the window past that point, use a heat gun or blow dryer to warm the area up, and fold that piece back out?

If you have to replace it, it's feasible to replace it yourself, but those pieces tend to be a pain as they seal the two windows. They often require a good chunk of the door interior in that area to come out to get to the entire seal, if not for the entire interior of door.
