Hey guys. I just went to Best Buy, Radio Shack, Zellers, Electronics Boutique Hits Computers and Blockbuster and I can't find this sharkport or xport you guys talk about. I need this to prove to RER that I am fast at grip. Does ne1 know a place in Canada that sells these things?

Ive been to basically all computer places, gaming places, electronic stores and havent been able to find either a Sharkport or Xport and Im in Canada also. What I do know is that Sharkport is supposed to be discontinued. So you will prolly have to look for an Xport and even then you will prolly have to order it online. I didnt want to, but I think Im gonna place an order soon myself. Good Luck.

Thanks for the reply. AW man, I don't know how to order stuff online. DO I need a credit card or something? And how long does it take to ship because I need my xport/sharkport by saturday ....

In most cases you are going to need a credit card to make online purchases. But if you have one then it shouldn't be an issue.
I can almost guarantee you though, that you will not receive it by Saturday.
Sometimes though, places do offer next day shipping, but it's kinda expensive.

Also take a look for something called "Action Replay." I beleive it's the same thing as a Sharport as this Action Replay company bought out the company that makes the Sharkport.

Action Replay is a cheat cart and cannot be used for transferrance of PS2 files to/from a PC.

The Sharkport has been discontinued, but the Xport V2 is the same thing.

It was originally grip. RER said I couldn't drive grip and I want to prove home wrong.

Never said that,.. I said I'd take up your challenge and send you home wearing your ass as a hat.

i think in canada its called GAMESHARK

Gameshark = Action Replay = Equaliser (more or less). All cheat cartridges - no replay-proving applications here.

Sharkport = Xport. No other terms exist for this device... As I said, Sharkport has been discontinued, so you'll have to find an Xport V2 - check in the "Gameshark & Hybrids" forum for previous N. American advice on getting hold of one.

To buy online you generally need a credit or debit card. If you're buying used stuff from eBay, then you can post cheques and cash too (last one NOT recommended) usually.

Argh, all this stuff is so confusing. Lol, I just asked my sister's friend if i could borrow her barbie digital camera. I hope she brings that tomorro and I hope it works.

What's confusing? You need to buy an Xport/Sharkport - they will be about US$30. Try http://www.gameshark.com/ (as previously pointed out, the same company makes both). Otherwise try and buy one from http://www.ebay.com.

No other method of proving times covers it I'm afraid.

As a side note, uploading files to your PC's hard drive means you need never buy another memory card again (or worry about your house being burgled and them taking your PS2 and mem cards... :D). I have roughly 30Mb on my PC of PS2 games, and only 16Mb worth of memory cards... Sound economy - especially with GT4 coming out...

👍 Famine! Thanks for clearing that up.

Has anyone tried burning a copy of there Sharkports software?

If so, did it work?

:D Not sure that would work even if you could make a copy boombexus , you'd still need the "Dongle" wouldn't you???...UB57
:D

 Yeah the Dongle! What the hell kinda name is that anyway?

But isn't the dongle used only for the Game Shark and not the Sharkport/Xport? I'm pretty sure it's only for the Game Shark.

Action Replay is the same as a Gameshark, but its a different company. Thats only good to put cheats in games. The makers of Action Replay make the Xport. So what you are looking for is a Sharkport or Xport. Not Action Replay and not Gameshark. Just making that clear for you guys. But www.gameshark.com doesnt show anything about a Sharkport. And if I remember correctly, Madcatz bought Gameshark. Like I said before.. Good Luck

Hi boom:
:D I don't know from Gameshark. But my Sharkport has 4 components. A CD for the PS2, one for your PC, the "Dongle" (for lack of a better name) & an instruction booklet. Found mine covered in dust @ my local "Fry's Electronics" store for $25.00. And to think I bought 5 (yeah, count 'em FIVE ) memory cards before I learned about the Sharkport!!!:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: ...UB57

Best Buy does generally carry the X-Port. I've got the receipt right in front of me. The product info is:

4880659 DUS0021
X-PORT FOR PS2 $29.99

They seem to put them in completely random places. When I got mine, it wasn't with the PS2 games, or the PS2 hardware, or the PS2 memory cards. It was sitting on a semi-hidden shelf way back under the PS1 games.

You would need a mod chip if you want a burned copy of the X-Port PS2 disc to work... Takes awhile, too -- it's got a few thousand unreadable sectors.

The dongle seems to just be a USB coupler, although there is a tiny little chip it in so maybe it's doing more. It'd be interesting to test, though. You could just splice together two USB cables and cross-over the data pins and it might work.

For $30, though, it's probably not worth the hassle of burning the PS2 disc, burning the PC disc, and butchering a couple USB cables.

BBM brings up a great point. Don't just call up these places asking for what you want, go and search for yourself. Most of the time the people doing the "stock check" is an incompetent moron who can careless about your needs, and never even tries to search for your item. You can also make internet purchases at some places if you have a checking account. Just give your account number, it's as good as a credit card number.

Ok, now for something really stupid, I'm not computer savvy, but I want to know more about this X-port stuff. Why do you need it? Why can't you just hook up your video cable to your computer? If your computer has a composite, s-video or component input, can't you just use that? If not, why not?

See, told you it was stupid.

For those who dont have an S-Video input, and who would like to stock their saved games on the computer instead of buying more MEM cards, then it becomes a pretty good gadget. And its cool cuz you can load someone else's ghost in GT3 and try to see what ur doing wrong/right compared to that person and so on. Alot of possibilities :)

Now if only I had a secret address where I could get it shipped to without my parents knowing about it....

@UB57, like BBM, the "dongle thingy" for the Sharkport is just a USB connector. The sharkport will work without that part. I use my sharkport without it since I needed about an extra 20' of cable to connect my PS2 and my PC. So it's not necessary. 👍

What the Xport does is connect your PS2 and your PC together so that you may transfer information, (not video) from your memory card to the hard drive of your PC. This enables you to e-mail replays and game data files to your friends. You can also post up your replay files on a web site so that others with a sharkport can download your replay and watch it on there PS2.
And like UB57 said, the sharkport will eliminate the need for you to ever buy another memory card again as you will now be able to save anything from your PS2 onto the hard drive of your PC.

But the sharkport does not enable you to watch or play PS2 video through your PC.

I did go to the store and looked all over the place. I also brought in the page on the bestbuy's website that shows the x-port. The best buy people say thats its in the US only or something.

:D THANX boom : I just assumed the little Sharkport logo-ed plastic box did something. Good to know that if it ever takes a dump I can just use a spare USB Cable...UB57

Solid Lifters:

The X-Port is pretty ideal for GT3, since GT3 only lets you put one savegame on a memory card.

I like starting over GT3, but I'm not too fond of doing the license tests and arcade mode every time, so I keep one savegame from day 49 with all license gold, all arcade mode and TT's complete. Then I can have another 100% complete savegame with tons of cars. And, of course, you can also trade replays around.

It's very cost-effective. I only own one memory card, and there's no reason for me to have another one. The only other PS2 game I even own is Grand Theft Auto III.
