True, I agree. I bet DX11 will blow it away. Sure DX10 have some neat ideas and improvements but I don't thinks that it took games to whole new LEVEL. DX11 now we're talking close to reality gaming.

I think you misunderstood me, DX10 IS indeed a significant step up from DX9. Shaders 4.0 etc. where as DX10.1 will be only minor upgrades..

So who cares if our GTSs are only DX10.0 ;-)

Have you played Crysis? With better framerates, it's close to reality gaming with everything turned up, DX10 graphics.

@Flerbizky,

Nice 3Dmark score! Is it running stable?

I do play it, Unbelievable graphics, sadly one of very few games that use potentials of DX10, thats why dx11 should be easier to worth with and more efficient.
When I play Crysis, Everything is set to HIGH and my frames are good, but once i go to extreme or whatever it was called frames drop

Indeed it is - Haven't made any tweaking yet, and doubt I will, so it should continue to do so.

One thing though, I mentioned earlier that I needed to get another PCI-E power connector for the second card, I decided against that, and got a new 750W PSU instead. No need to get instability due to a 530W PSU which may, or worse, may not, be up to handling 2 x GTS..

I see DX10 still as a new platform with many gamers still on DX9, why would games be optimized for DX10? I would hope to see more from the gaming industry in the next year or so....

More GPU power for gaming - That's it basically. For displaying 1080p, be it on a 32" or a 46" or 200" display, you can get away with a 8600GT - And probably as low as 8500GT.

I'm running an 8500GT in mine, and it does HD just fine. Well, I haven't tried 1080p, but she'll do 720p all day without giving it a sweat. Still haven't tested Crysis on my PC though, I'm waiting a bit to get the game for less.

Side note: My specs

AMD 64 X2 6000+ (3.0MHz per core) 2X1024KB L2 Cache
8500 GT w/ TV tuner
500 GB HDD
2GB DDR2

Does anyone know when the Nvidia Graphics update is coming out for the 8000-series cards? I heard about it on Diggnation about two weeks ago, but I have no idea when its supposed to happen...

Crysis in resolutions above 640x480 will kill your 8500GT...

I came up with this. A bit "over the top" for what I want?

Dont get the 9600, its only half of the 8800GT/GTS

Spend the extra 40 bucks and go for the 8800GT 512MB

OR

Wait for the 9800's to come out, which will be in a while, so dont hold your breath

I don't see much difference between the two. What do you mean "only half of the 8800GT?"

I see the core clock speed is the only difference 650 vs. 670 and people had problems with the 8800GT at 670. Both are 512 DDR3, so what is half?

Bingo.

The 9600GT has only 62 Stream processors

The 8800GT has 112

OK, I just noticed that. So, there's something else I need to look for in a video card.

So, what exactly is a "STREAM PROCESSOR" and what is a good number to have?

Generally:

Wiki
"Stream processing is a computer programming principle that, when applied to certain types of applications, gives software programmers access to the advantages of parallel processing. Through the use of stream processing, computer programmers benefit from the ability to transparently access a large number of 'cores' (or, computational units) on a chip without having to separately manage each and every one of them along with their associated busses, memories, I/O, etc."

What games are you going to playing and what resolutions are you going to be running them at?

Basically it comes down to this:

8800GT/GTS= Higher resolution and higher end games, lots of AA'ing

9600GT= high end games, lower resolutions, not to much AA'ing

Crysis can do either card, one can perform better at higher resolutions

I wont be playing much of anything, to be honest, but I do want to play a few games.

What resolution are you running ?...

Unless you're at 1920x1200 or the likes, you should be fine with a single 8800GT / GTS depending on your wallet...

I like running at 1360x768 and then using ZOOM on my HDTV set to see the finer print a bit easier. I could use 1920x1080 but then I'd need to use the Magnifier tool (PC) at all times and I don't like that.
