So is there anything I can do? Personally, I'm thinking it's my USB ports. I have 6 of them but the computer is only registering 3. This has been going on since about the beginning of July, maybe end of June. The computer guys say that my USB ports are working, but. . . I dunno. . .
Surely you have something else usb? I had the same problem with my old laptop when it came back for repair the first time. None of the usb ports worked. We sent it back again and they did something with the motherboard. If it's not that, my friend has a quickcam mesenger, but his jamms his computer when he plugs it in. Probably unrealated though. Try and find SOMETHING that plugs into usb. No printer? No wireless or bluetooth adaptor? No iPod or mp3 player? No external sound card? No tv tuner? No external hard drive? No usb keyboard or mouse? No ps2 eyetoy? No dfp? No external cd/dvd drive? No external floppy drive? No scanner? No usb modem? Any of those?
I don't know how you guys do things but I have XP and I just rip out my damn USB stuff if it's removable, that damn gay ass "remove usb safely" crap is damn irritating as well as slow. Every once in awhile XP doesn't like me doing this and so what happens is the current USB stuff works like mice and stuff but if I try to add stuff especially if it's a storage drive it doesn't load. I'd recommend restarting and see if it works because maybe your USB system is ****ed up like mine gets. Note: I've heard from "computer geeks" that this is not wise to just rip out your stuff so don't follow me but if you do just know it's at your own risk. I loveeeeee Micro****.
Safely removing the hardware only takes like two seconds if you left click the icon on the taskbar. If you don't have two seconds to spare you don't need to be on a computer anyways.
Long story short, always safely remove USB hardware.
I tend to be stuck for time during the day, so following the Safely Remove Hardware business is just too much effort. Pen drive in computer, pull it out. Put it in another computer, pull it out. In out in out shake it ... etc. Safely Removing stuff is for wimps. Be a man, whip it out.
I've never had any adverse side effects from not Safely Removing a usb device, and things like my pen drive are protected against that sort of abuse.
You may want to try re-installing the driver. For me, when you put the CD back in the tray, it asks you if you want the program or just the drivers. Try it with just the driver for the camera. Then try to use the camera with a program other than Logitech's. Open up AIM/Yahoo/MSN and try to get the webcam to work by im-ing someone and turning on video conferencing. The light will turn on if it's a different program accessing it too.
