Yet ANOTHER Firefox problem!!

Okay,so I just bought a new Gateway laptop. Don't make fun, it was cheap and fulfilled my needs. Anyway, it has a scrolling pad beside the touch pad (for scrolling through web pages by running your finger up or down it). When I first started using Firefox, this feature worked perfectly. Now, it doesn't work at all. When I try to scroll using the pad, the little scrolling icon comes up wherever the pointer icon is, but the page doesn't move. It works fine with Internet Explorer, and I don't know where else to look for the problem. Anyone else have this problem and / or know how to fix it? Thanks!

The same has happened to me a couple of times with my work laptop (ancient Fujitsu Lifebook), restarting the laptop always fixed it for me.

Really? Because I have been informed that Firefox is notorious for not being compatible with scroll bars on laptops (though it works perfectly for scroll wheels on desktop PCs)...

Quite a strange problem, all I can offer is try contacing support/help and see what they can help you with. You might as well buy a portable mouse though, trackpads get very tedious after a while.

I have another question actually. Since the scroll feature works with IE, I am thinking (dreading) about using it as my laptop browser. I was wondering, is there anything akin to the bar in Firefox where you can put hotlinks to your favourite sites (usually this bar is located under the address bar in Firefox) for Internet Explorer? Is there a site where I can somewhat customize my IE like the Mozilla page?

You're making a big mistake by going with Exploder. Be sure to tell the spyware to wipe their feet before they get comfy in your hard drive.

In IE, there's a Links bar that you can turn on by right-clicking the top of the browser (where the arrows and such are), and you can add hotlinks to sites there. However, I couldn't get it to work properly, since after I exited IE, the links bar disappeared.

Anderton Have you considered using Opera? its a great alternative to FF and moons ahead of the suck fest that is IE. Give Opera a tre before consineing your laptop to a life of misery.

Or try the plain old Mozilla browser. It's like a low calorie FireFox. No eye candy, all function.
I believe Mozilla dropped support for the Mozilla browser, so that's probably not the best idea.

I would go with Sprite's suggestion. If you can't scroll in Firefox, use Opera. At least it's better than IE, with tabs and all.

Keep in mind...anything is better than Exploder.

Every time I use IE I get Tracking Cookies in Ad Aware and Spybot S&D. I will never default my browser to IE.

Along with sprite and Duck, I also suggest giving Opera a look before going back to IE.

If you do decide on IE, then go with IE7 Beta 3. It's not a finished product, so you may encounter a few bugs here and there, but it's at least safer than IE6.

In theory anyways.

I will also recommend trying Opera before going to IE. It has tabs, a password manager, and it's pretty quick. If it decides to crash, you can open it back with the pages you were on. You can also save groups of tabs as sessions and load them later.

The "save session" feature is something I wish more browsers would include. Maybe Firefox 2.0 or 3.0 or Safari 3.0?
