I've backed up my gamesave on a usb stick (not online). now, when i get a new ps3 i intend on swapping my original hard drive to the new console, but i understand it'll need reformatted? Will i be able to use my saved data on the usb stick with the new console, or have i lost all my cars forever? :nervous:

Yes it will be reformatted but as long as you use the same PSN account you are fine.

The game save is tied to your PSN name, so as long as you re-create the same account name on the new PS3, you will be able to use your game save.

After you install the game from the disk, quit and overwrite the game save it creates with your old one and you should be good to go.

Obviously, just like in the Borrow Glitch, you will not have specific thumbnails, Jeff Gordon Race suit, pictures, etc when you do this, as those items are stored in the Game Data folder, not the game save file. 👍

Yass! Thanks guy's! 'Not fussed about a few prizes ect, but i don't think i could've started the game from scratch again. Happy days! 👍

GoSpeedRacer brought up a good point. You won't have the suit and many thumbnails will be missing for cars (you can tell it to make new ones though) and your photos and race replays will be gone since they're saved in the game data as well. You'll also have to re-download any DLC cars you may have had.

But yes everything else will be intact. 👍

Related question.....

A few months ago my ps3 YLOD'd. Gave it to a friend who wanted to see if he could fix it. I replaced the fat with a slimline.

Sorted. 👍

However....it has just occured to me today that i no longer have some cars (3 iirc).... whatever i got for pre-ordering the game which i beleive was a black GTR and a black Mercedes of some form, and a chromline Jag that i got from some Facebook game.

How can i go about getting these back?

fyi, i would be able to get my original fat ps3 back if required. Apparently repaired, but i consider it only a very temporary fix.

Just go to the Playstation Store, then go to View Downloads, and download them again from there. 👍

Can you give me your PS3 model codes who had YLOD please...

the code is written backside of your fat PS3.

Code should strat with: CECH*** something like this

'Uploaded my save today, as mentioned alot of cars needed thumbnails created (i did wonder what that option was for before now!) and i had to do a 600+mb update. All my lap times are gone but theres been bits and bobs re-apearring so they may return. 'i'm just happy i'm not starting from the very begining! :)

I want this because Fat PS3 which are produced after August 2008 newer generation. I am also using a fat PS3 and mine is also newer fat and CHECHJ04. I asked because generally YLOD occurs first generation fat PS3. The second generation SONY made some improvements and newer versions more lucky about YLOD. Facing YLOD is lower and also electricity usage is more economic. I just try to understand which fat PS3 codes can face YLOD.
