Posting this for info so others don't need to waste their own time trying.
I used my bogus account I used for my birthday exploit for this. In that account, I bought a Mazda Autozam in Classic Red. Using my legit account, I gifted my bogus account a Championship White paint chip and painted the Mazda Autozam Champ White. I gifted it to myself, and retrieved it, and got a Classic Red paint chip. Not Champ White.
So those trying to get multiple matte or chrome color chips, it won't work by trading. Whatever color the car was originally in is the color chip you get for it.
Also if a car never gave you a paint chip, if you paint it something else and gift it you won't get the chip either. Just saying.
