Your Best Save/Recovery?

We've all had that one moment.. Feelin good, driving hard, focused on catching the car ahead of us or having just made the pass on the leader.. Then it happens.. Either you overcooked that last corner or hit the gas too early (or in the case of the non ABS cars locked up the brakes) and now your car is threatening to enter (or has entered) a devastating spin or off track excursion, what's your best save?

Driving the f2007 at spa in the wet, no driving aids on, held a monster slide through eau rouge felt quite proud of myself until i managed to spin on the straight just after

Messing around at Daytona in Nascar since I never drive them. Had 4 friends all racing hard and got a hard tap on my left rear coming out of turn 2. Cranked the wheel hard right then straight and saved a sure wreck. Seems minor but it felt huge.

My best save was probably on Prologue. I still have the replay saved on my PS3. I was racing my ST at Daytona, and I was battling it out with a BMW Z1 and... some other car that I can't remember. On about the 3rd lap or so, the Z1 decides to come up my side then hit me (dirteh Prologue AI). My ST slid sideways, I held it, then it gained traction again and the tail flew round and the car dived down the banking, so I steered the other way, then finally managed to recover it, and I didn't even hit anyone. :dopey:

Ending up on the grass into Ascari @ Monza in a Ford Mk IV, sliding on the grass around the outside of a Corvette... sideways into the corner...

I was in a SuperGT race at Fuji, going into the chicane, I caught a little grass and spun, turned it into a reverse entry, lost no time.

I had this save at lambo exclusive race with murcielago lp 640 at nurburgring, tried to catch the 8th position,my right rear tyre slide to the grass.it hit the barrier and spun 360 degree.i hit the throttle hard, gained on traction and ended up powerslidin thru the corner

The way GT's physics work with the bounce off the walls, solid track edges and anti-roll over physics, it's pretty hard to get really tense saves or close-calls aside from saving the back end. Cars are mostly planted to the floor, avoiding such wild moments.

Project CARS however :)

I was at Nurburg, going through Quiddelbacher-Hohe up to Flugplatz in my new LFA. I was angled slightly to the right and I was going fast enough to get some air. The back flew out from behind me. I slammed the analog stick to the left and I drifted through the entirety of Flugplatz.

Well my turn now to post the recovery of mine that was the reason I started this thread.. I was in the seasonal event at the nurburgring.. I was ahead of the zonda and was catching the mclaren.. I was using my R34 TC. I came up to klostertal at 184 mph, let off a bit and took the comer at 165, and the GTRs right rear tire stepped into the grass.. Safe to say the car was backwards on me in a hurry and heading for the wall.. But i hit the gas in reverse/turned the car away from the wall, and backed it away from hitting the wall.. It kept spinning (it did like 3 or 4 more rapid revolutions) and each time I'd give it throttle and steering in the appropriate direction.. The car didn't touch the wall.. And when it stopped spinning it was going 55 mph facing the right way.. I hope I still have the replay i don't know if I do, my description did not do that save justice

Mercedes CLK vs Pagani Zonda R Race Car 650 PP Circuit De La Sarthe

Side by side battle for 1st after coming off the Mulsane straight, heading into Indy with me in the Mercedes on the outside and then, due to lag, he bumps me right as we enter the braking zone; my left rear tire gets about three quarters into the grass. I brake. Car goes around Indy at about a 75 degree angle, the rear wheels gave just enough of a push to keep me out of the sand by less than the radius of my CLKs wheels, got back into the race line, only lost 1 second to the new leader... :P

Nascar at Daytona Turn 2. The car in front of me got into the wall and turn right back at me, making me loose. So I was sideways at the straight Heading for the grass and into the wall. I just turned right within a few inches off the wall. I think i drifted about 100 feet at 205mph to 152mph. It was also done on a Controller. I also got the replay ;)

Tires were worn, had a slip, shame I didn't win, but it was a good battle and save nonetheless. Skip to 0:59 if you're not interested in the whole lap.

Any time I drive the Mclaren F1/RUF Yellowbird/Lancia Stratos :dopey:

That aside, one of my most memorable saves was when driving an R92CP. I managed to slightly overcook the exit during the second hairpin on the Nurburgring 24 hour circuit. This sent me into a wild oscillation, S-bending all the way down the small straight until the next corner. I still don't know how I managed to keep it under control, especially since I had the throttle floored the whole way, and was using a wheel

Another one I remember is with a stock Elise 111R '04. Caught a bit of grass on the last corner of Deep Forest Raceway, thought I would be put straight into the wall, but some countersteering+braking allowed me to complete a perfect 360-degree spin without hitting anything :sly:

^^ I was in the Aston Martin.

Also, I completed an overtake in Turn One at Nürburgring GP/F, in an Audi R8, against a Viper SRT10, in the Rolex Sports Car Series, by slightly yanking the e-brake and sliding. AWD launch!!! Was epic, how easily one can recover from a skid. I had braked much later that the SRT10, realized it, and pulled the e-brake to avoid the Viper. Somehow, I made it through the corner in front of the Viper.

Nissan 300ZX. On the final corners of Nurburgring, I went too fast, like always, but this time, I somehow managed to keep the car on the road. I did an 8:30 which I think is OK I guess.

I was racing with some friends on my Toscana Tarmac track and one of my friends forced me into the Finish Line/Pit entry barrier and my Aventador shot up into the air and did a barrel roll. I passed the finish line in mid-air. I still managed first despite us being neck-and-neck.

Driving the LeMans 24 hours - and missing a pit stop... and running out of fuel at Mulsanne Corner... chugged back to the pits, 3 minutes behind the leaders. This was on lap 16... About an Hour into the race.

I could have quit. I could have cut chicanes and other deplorable things...

But I just kept chugging along. and now at Lap 78 I am only 20 seconds down - so it only took me 3hours 45 minutes to... nearly save the race.

One mistake (Overtaking a Viper on the wrong side of the pit lane... and forgetting the stop.)

I noticed it as soon as I crossed the line... did all the tricks (Holding a high gear, not going full banana, coasting through corners. But 6 minutes 21 seconds never felt so long. And 50mph on the side of the road felt awful - but driving real hard felt better.

Not too sure I want to goof up again just to make the race interesting again

Coming up to the chicane on Nurb GP/F in a G37, was trying to late brake to line up for an overtake out of the chicane, got too late. Instead of going up the rear of the guy in another G37 infront of me, I darted right where there was a small gap, fit for about half a G37. Wheels ended up on the grass and whipped me sideways. Still hard on the brakes, countersteering to try and pull it back, I was right behind the other G37 when he turned into the chicane. I drifted back onto the track, let off the throttle to regain traction, exited the chicane and lined up for another overtake into the final hairpin.. Later that race, server DC'd so I couldnt save the replay..

Mine was on a lap around nurburgring with the recommended cars. I was driving a Challenger SRT-8 and the guy in 2nd was in an M3 coupe. Me and him were battling for 1st for the whole race... we get to the long straight just before the finish line, he's in 1st. I grabbed his draft and passed him just before the sign at the end of the straight... I go a little too fast through the left right sequence just before the pit entrance and I spinout... I spun 3 times threw it into reverse to try to recover and suprisingly I regain control, but the M3 passed me... He overshoots the last corner and I take 1st by about 0.025 seconds. Seriously EPIC crash and win scenario right there... P.S. we were on sports soft tires.

Sport softs aren't bad, I do use them for my super cars as I've posted previously.. They grip nicely but yet still let the handling traits of the car show. Good stories and videos here people! Thanks for coming in Nielsen.

Probably the most boring thread I have ever read.

Incredibly worthy response

Oh wait. Forgot sarcasm gets lost over the internet...

On-topic.... NASCAR and got knocked sideways in a wreck in an open lobby, spinning around at 170mph across the grass, and somehow came out perfectly in front of everyone and led the race.

^Room host did not like that and kicked me

Mine has to be either in a Mustang only race where me and Furinkazen were, not intentionally, tandem drifting through the final sector at Le Sarthe. Sideways enough to use the side windows to look forwards, but somehow still holding on.

Another one was in a Lamborghini at High Speed Ring, again with Furi, I lost it on the first banking, was so far gone that I was pointing more towards the wrong way around than the right, but I kept my foot in it, flung the wheel round and somehow, probably the 4wd system more than anything, I straightened her up.

1000km Suzuka enduro in MOTUL AUTECH GT-R, tuned but not upgraded, dropped a tire on the last lap in the rain running through the runoff-laden section immediately prior to the front straight and nearly got passed by the YellowHat GT-R that was on the same lap...nearly.

Just installed an update on my sarcasm-o-meter, working great.
