Volvo's are considered one of the safest cars on the road. The 2000 S80 is a good looker too. I'm not sure what the exchange rate is from Can to US but here is a link to what I found on Kelley Blue Book. com or kbb.com. Go to kbb and enter all the relevant info and it will list the fair market value in the US by private party, suggested retail, or trade-in.

Just wait for M5power to tell his opinion, he's pretty much always right, and should have a few ideas of what else you could look for.

Looks like a good deal for a safe, relativly reliable car.

As I said in PM (you can reply either way though forum is easier for me because my pop-up blocker blocks the PM notification):

For starters, assuming that price is in Canadian dollars, it's a great price - Blue Book calls the list on that car $20000 CAD privately and $24600 CAD from a dealer. Second, mileage is great - an average vehicle should do 20,000km a year these days, and that one's only done around 16,000 a year, so that's a definite plus.

My problem with the car is it's only a 2000; the S80 debuted in 1999 which means there might be reliability troubles, which one tends to encounter with Volvo. The S80 T6 actually debuted the 2.8-liter twin turbo straight six in 1999, so 2000 models won't be the most sound vehicles in the world. Then again, considering the price even if a few things were mechanically wrong, you'd still be getting a damn good deal on the car.

Spec is great, it's got new tires and only one owner, S80s are quick and handle decently, and it's a solid, safe car. Assuming not much is wrong with it, I'd easily buy it. 👍

EDIT: it says a warranty is available. I might get it. If I did I'd read every word first and only get it if the terms seem logical, but as this is an aging Volvo, a warranty might be a good bet if it's not too expensive and if it's comprehensive enough.

I own an S80 T6... fantastic car, it's pretty quick and actually fun to drive as well. It's a 2003 though, but so far it's been reliable to me. Awesome car, sleeper too... :)

I'll play devil's advocate for a minute here and say that if you don't need the size of something like an S80, you may opt for a smaller S60 and save a few bucks or for the same money, get one a year or two newer.

Never even so much as sat in an S80, so I'm no help in that department. But I have driven an S60, and they seem like perfectly fine family sedans to me.

well, just to end my hesitation and get to the meat and potatos so to speak, I am going to drive her this weekend, see how she is. Depending on how the ride goes, it will either be an easy or hard decision !

Dude. His name is TwinTurboJay, not SingleTurboJay. :p

Plus, at that price he won't find any newer S60s - it's actually a steal in the S80 department, and it might be able to yield an S60, but remember, S60 didn't debut until 2001 so it would be a stretch. He definitely won't find an S60 with the same spec, same mileage and same pace for the same price.

 Damn right TwinTurbo

actually, this will be a pretty big step up for me...my current ride is a '91 mazda 626 5 door...I am pretty friggin excited. But, that being said, I don't want my decision making capabilities to be clouded by twin turbos and leather interiors !

Well, thanks for your info guys...I test drove the volvo...while being fast and a little fun, the engine sounded like crap ( like ticking valves ) and felt like the guy had been autocrossing with it ( he hadn't ) really loose and the suspension was already alittle washy...oh well, the search continues ! I will be asking assistance again !
