People - none of these cars are hatchbacks, let alone "hot hatches".

The Clio V6 is a coupe, as is the Integra and 180SX. The 206 Rally Car is a rally car/coupe. The BMW 3-series is a saloon car, family car or medium executive car. The original Mini is a City Car. There is absolutely no comment I can pass on the person who thinks the coupe-body, 650hp Ford RS200 Group B rally car is a "hot hatch".

Strictly speaking a mini isn't a hatch but i'd still think of it as one, if anything it inspired the whole idea of small practical cars - modern hatchbacks!
BMW did a 318ti compact which is a 3dr hatch, the current 325 compact is a worthy hot hatch albeit an expensive one

No need to be quite so anal, i'd say many sports coupes and hot hatches are comparable, often with very similar mechanical components and performance ability. The new Astra VXR looks as coupe-like as my Puma which in turn is very similar mechanically to a Fiesta Zetec-S, it's all a bit blurry really.

I'd class the integra as a coupe myself, at least that's what it's marketed as.
Still, I'd include it under the hot hatch banner, it's basically a hot hatch in a coupe body (with a hatch )

No, 206 a hatchback. 206 WRC is a 2-door, 2-seater with significant body changes over the 206 road car. It is a coupe - as are the Focus WRC and 307 WRC

It shares one single body panel with the standard Clio. The "hatch" at the back is actually the engine cover. Again, it's a 2-door, 2-seater and is marketed by Renault - and classed by magazines - as a coupe.

Indeed it did. But the boot (trunk, whatever) compartment is separate to the cabin, thus not a hatch. When it went out of production it was lumped in the same category as the FIAT Seicento/Cinquecento (which have hatch backs), Daihatsu Cuore (ditto), VW Lupo (again) and MCC Smart Car (strike four) as a "City Car" - the category below hatchbacks.

Indeed. The Astra VXR and Puma are coupes, the Fiesta is a hatchback. But the Fiesta also forms the basis of the hatch backed Ford Ka, which is a City Car.

However, the Audi TT - a 2-door coupe - has a hatch back, but is clearly a sports coupe. It shares a significant proportion of its components with the VW Beetle (hatchback/crapwagon), VW Golf (hatchback), VW Bora/Jetta (saloon), Audi A3 (hatchback), Audi A4 (saloon), SEAT Cordoba (saloon).

But then some people will call the 3dr new astra a hatch and people certainly call the SportKa a junior hot hatch as I would the Lupo GTi, so surely a Mini Cooper (despite the fact it hasn't got a hatch) is also a hot hatch, albeit a small one (nor particularly hot by modern standards). even though it may be officially in a class below the Fiesta/Corsa etc which are more traditional hatches.
No point arguing really, all the cars you picked on are still cool and you can't fault people for wanting one

Doubtless they are all "cool". I almost bought a Renaultsport Clio V6 230 - so I know what I'm talking about when I say that it is marketed as, and indeed IS, a coupe. And the RS200 is my favourite car ever, so how anyone can think that's a hot hatch is totally beyond me.

I suspect aliens have abducted the real Famine and left us with an imposter. The 850 did NOT have a hatchback. No way. The trunk is mounted at the base of a fixed rear windshield.

As for the bodystyle issue, I'm going to chalk it up to a Europe vs. America difference. Where I live, if a fast-back style rear window comes up with the top of the trunk lid and the assembly pivots at the edge of the rear roofline, it's a hatchback. Coupes have a fixed rear window and the trunk pivots at the base of it.

Besides, I think I change my mind to a Mini Cooper S anyways. Unless that qualifies as a '2 door lifestyle sedan' or something

EDIT: After thinking about this a few more minutes, I'm going to have to reverse what I said above. Yep. A 944 or a 928 is most definately NOT a hatchback, but a coupe. Touché, Famine.... if that's really you.
