Your first/earliest experience of the Gran Turismo series..

I had never even heard of it...we had Tekken and Rayman for the PS at home and was all we had played. (I was 26 I think if im getting my years correct).
It goes to show how much of an impression it made on me as I can remember so much about discovering it.
I saw an advert in the newspaper at work and it was literally the GT emblem and nothing else except 'The Real Driving Simulator' which really caught my eye.
On the way home I called in local shop and it was running and showing a replay.

Bought it on the spot and wasnt off it for weeks...I remember having the Skyline and modding it up and thinking it was the best thing ever created!

Ahhh...memories eh :)

I played the first Gran Turismo in Japanese.

Acceptably, I didn't understood a word. But thas was awesome. Played in a friend's PS1.

Same here. I didn't own a PS at the time and was in HS with no job and no money to buy one. My friend didn't even have a Japanese PS, so I remember we had to do the swap trick to get it working. In summer 1998 I got a job, bought a PS, IIRC had it modded at a place called Game Cave advertised in EGM, and got my own copy of the Japanese version. I was hooked and still am!
 
Oh man, GT1 seems so long ago. I remember the cars looking "real" (lulz polygons) and I was younger so that was where I first learned to appreciate the performance of an automobile. Good times.
 
Played the GT1 demo when I was 3, and it was actually no surprise since I am and was obsessed with racing. Came on a sampler disc with some other classics like MGS. Good times...
 
Late '99, finally bought PSX after a decade of NES. First two games were GT and Coolboarders 3. GT of course, was my preferred game. I even stopped playing it for months because of frustration with the licenses. I hoped back on, completed the licenses and never looked back.
 
All I remember back in mid 1999 me and my family we're heading to Philippines for a two month vacation, and I was looking for a couple of games to get with me as back-up in-case things gets boring!! lol

ended up getting hooked to the game, I even remember I was doing a race that took 2 hour's, I cant remember which one it is, but I was like, this is the longest race I have ever done!!
