Just had the brilliant thought, I can test something I've alway wanted to try IRL...the car has 3.42 gears and tops out at 158 but thats 5th gear. Alway wondered how much quicker she would be geared for 158 in 6th....
As is the car does 80mph at 2000 rpm in 6th..5800 redline...call it 240mph gearing.

Thats why I made this thread... I was curious how close to real the game feels... I mean, each of us at best have driven MAYBE 10 real cars in this game (unless you have a GTR, RX7 or Miata... lol) but most have been much less so we are just assuming they all feel right.

And if the car feels close, that means the game allows you to a degree to play with settings on your real life driver before you drop the money on the real modification

'97 Z-28 Camaro. Actually a rare(311 made) 6 speed, NO traction control, hardtop(no teetop) 30th Anniversary Edition(Which is just huge orange strips, logo'd seats, white wheels).
Game has it, and mentions the Anniversary Edition but the game car is not stripped and has polished wheels so its a standard '97 Z-28, which of course has identical performance to mine.
I'll drive it stock then put in the race tranny so I can be sure to get the proper ratios and retest.
Too bad race mods ruin the sound, a slightly muffled set of headers would be SO nice!💡

Off-Topic:There was one of those(unless it was a lookalike) at the local chevy-dealer-turned-equipment-rental-turned-used-dealership-on-the-side this summer. Seems no one wanted to buy it despite the "WOW" and "Low Miles," it was there for a long time. I might have looked at it but no sense trading in my '96 with leaky T-Tops(window actually, doesn't come in from the top) for basically the same '97 model at this point.

I've often heard the gears are wrong in the game but I've honestly never really tried to compare them to mine or looked up the actual numbers. Wanted to, just haven't. The gearing is rather odd anyway, you can pretty easily take your pick between the first 4 gears at city speed. I think it was so they could do the 'skip shift' to get it straight into 4th at 15-20mph so as to pretend it got more than 20mpg without using the highway(where it gets great mileage).

It's pretty fun to drive at the Nordschleife... not too fast, not too slow, pretty controllable but slides enough to have fun, and the roads are just like here with less potholes. I haven't tried to race mine enough to say whether it feels accurate though.

In the game I'm finding things a bit mixed up: balance is wrong with comfort and sport tires...traction is too great with racing hard
And yes it does appear the ratios are incorrect but strangely enough the rear axle ratio was correct(well for the standard, no option car).

I think the F bodied Camaros are some of the most underrated cars out there, the weight distribution is perfect and while its not light, its not a porker either.
First thing I did to mine was install the skip shift defeat :D skip shift is pretty much the dumbest idea I've seen, not to mention I hate hearing a nice big V-8 rattle from too much load at too low any RPM. IRL, I think the gearing is great- 1st is low enough to boil the hides at any speed/rpm yet its not short. Second is just long enough for the car to get settled and up to the legal limit. 3rd handles highway passes when you need all the beans and forth is perfect to say byebye to the century mark and your license.
Motor is a torquey little bugger(what? you think 5.7 is big?) but there are limits and 5th gear at 15mph is just plain dumb. I like to keep mine in the 1500-2500 range for just trolling around and its much fun to just vary the speed by shifting while keeping a constant throttle. While there are six gears I think of it as a 5 speed with overdrive.

would you belive my license plates are ERB XXX? ryan erb....

sof far I'm underwhelmed with the accuracy, the motor in particular just sounds lazy and slow like a 396 300hp. And the car has no feel but once the tranny ratios are matched, it does perform pretty close to real.

I've also got a 2004 Mazda6 with the 2.3L engine, but I haven't bothered to play with any of the ~10 Mazda6/Mazda Atenzas I've got in the game. My 6 is a daily driver that I haven't pushed very hard anyways, nor do I plan to...

It's too bad the game won't allow me to swap in a '97 MR2 GT-S engine into my 86 G-Limited, because that's what will eventually be going into my IRL car.

I drive a RUF BTR in real life
With RSR suspension

My brother has an EVO 6 tme, its making 470+ bhp proven on a rolling road. In real life it handles like its on rails and eats supercars and bikes for breakfast, in the game the same car with same power understeers like a bus and just about keeps up with a civic type r, nothing like my brothers evo.

Well, that's half right. While Electronic Arts does own all the rights for PS3 Porsche use, PD had the option to collaborate for a sub-licensing deal, (which had been done in the past with Forza), but Kaz pulled back from the deal. So, PD is the reason there's no Porsches. :sly:

Ay... well that sucks, thanks for reminding me how to spell Porsche XD
Still I think that at least one Premium RUF wouldn't be bad. :s At least the yellowbird.

They did pretty good with the S2000..mine is very easy to slide in real life as in the game...top speed from stock position is pretty accurate...interior looks exactly like it...so I give a thumbs up on that

What kind of car do you drive in real life?
2007 Mini Cooper S Works+

What do you like about the car in real life?
Superb handling and lightweigth compared to equal hatchbacks

Is it in the game or something like it?
Yes, but mine have more aero parts from the racecar wich is not in the game

Does it drive like your real life driver?
If i set it up like my car its pretty equal, but cant find out wich tire to chose. Using Toyo R888

Here in action in Real life at the Nurburgring Nordschleife:

What kind of car do you drive in real life?
Citroen C3 coupe.

What do you like about the car in real life?
Cheap on insurance untill I reach 25. Great feel with the right tires. Good for transporting lots of anything.

Is it in the game or something like it?
Yes, in premium.

Does it drive like your real life driver?
No not at all, GT5 version seems to produce to much understeer (stock) compared to the real thing. Some dials are wrong and engine noise isn't close.

Interesting. Have you done any track work in your car? (I'd hope so!) :)
I installed racing shifter from wevo
RSR suspension is being installed as we speak 400 lbs springs in front 600 lbs in back

Nice! It's an awesome car by the way, thanks for sharing. Certainly puts my yellowcab in the shade...

I have a Chevrolet Cobalt SS turbo
Its not in the game but id like to see it!
If its like real life it would be pretty quick for an FF especially once tuned.
Mine have a tuned PCM, intake and downpipe, performance is a little faster than a BMW M3 E92 , like the '07 in in GT5...

i did 12.5@114mph on the quarter mile.

Its one of the cars I kinda expected to see in the game, saw it a lot when they came out on SpeedTV. That 12.5 is sweet, bet you surprise lots of us traditional muscle heads 👍
..happy that mine made the cut but since the Camaro LM has been in GT since way back, the F body is
supposedly a shoe in :D

I have a Chevrolet Cobalt SS turbo

i did 12.5@114mph on the quarter mile.

I guess the Shelby GT350 is as close too mine as I will get. Though not a Shelby, nor from '65, it is a 1967 Mustang. Hardtop as well, not a fastback. But despite that setback (if you want to call it one), it is in the earlier stages of being saved and rebuilt/restored 👍

What kind of car do you drive in real life?
2003 Dodge Neon SRT-4 (silver)
Mods include MOPAR Stage 3 turbo kit, short ram intake, side exit exhaust
With slicks and race gas, it has run 12.0 @ 117 in the quarter mile

What do you like about the car in real life?
Cheap speed, and it's a sleeper until I hit WOT.

Is it in the game or something like it?
Yes, in the UCD.

Does it drive like your real life driver?
The simulation is remarkably good. Understeers and has no launch traction once you mod it, just like the real thing. LOL

The GT4 simulation of this car was abysmal... GT5 is a huge improvement. Also, I like that you can slap on all the power bolt-ons in the game (no engine work) and it puts it around 490 whp. That's quite true in real life for folks who run a bigger turbo, more fuel, and more tuning than my setup. They typically see 400-475 whp without touching the motor. Not sure if PD nailed this on purpose or by accident.

Well, I have 2 cars, a 2010 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, and a 1988 E30 BMW M3. Of course, they're both not in the game, so.......

Anyway, the AMG is the family car and the M3 has been in the workshop a lot for the past few months.......
I used to own a Ford Escort RS Cosworth before the M3, but wrecked it on track.

IRL, a 2010 Honda Civic coupe. The closest thing is the premium Civic Type-R (8th generation) but they're completely different machines so no, it's nothing like my real car.

None of our current cars are in GT5.
08 FJ Cruiser
08 Smart Fortwo
85 BMW 635Csi

But we have had cars in the past, Audi S4, miata, mustang gt, subie Wrx...

I don't think the game is close to real driving... Simulated yes, but no Gs, no road feel, just not the same... Maybe I need a better wheel or a moving chair...

Nothing I currently have or have ever had are in the game. Older TL Type-S from 03' is in the game. I have the 07 Type S as my avatar.

Previous car was an 05' Audi Allroad. Closest might be one of the Avants. I forget which years they model in game.

I have not tried to compare them. The Audi has been on the track. Not the Type-S though.

A clip of the Allroad at speed on a closed road (Maryhill Loop Road, Glendale, WA, USA).

What kind of car do you drive in real life?
2009 BMW M3 Sedan

What do you like about the car in real life?
Very Fast. The sound and feel when running it to redline with the pedal floored is amazing. The car feels so connected to the road no matter what speed.

Is it in the game or something like it?
The Coupe is in the game and, other than looks, is basically the same car.

Does it drive like your real life driver?
It's difficult to say. The sound is way off. It is such a pleasing sound IRL, but in game it is a big fat MEH. I don't get to drive the car on the limit IRL very often and in game I rarely ever drive it below the limit, so that makes comparison of driving dynamics difficult. Overall though I'd say it is quite close other than the sound.

What kind of car do you drive in real life?
2010 Chevy Camaro SS

What do you like about the car in real life?
Torque, torque and torque and the sound

Is it in the game or something like it?
Yes, except you can't get my color option: Imperial Blue with white rally stripes

Does it drive like your real life driver?
The sound is way, way off. I have what amounts to a semi-racing exhaust which makes it sound like a NASCAR, but the SS with the semi-racing exhaust in the game sounds very bland. The RPMs seem to rise too slowly in the game if you're not near redline; i.e the car doesn't seem to "dig" itself out of low to mid RPMs in the game as it does in real life. Other than that it's spot-on.
