Oh to be fabulously wealthy. Then we could afford creations like this gorgeous bespoke Maserati GS Zagato.

Based on the outgoing Maserati Spyder, this specially made machine has been built for Italian entrepreneur Paolo Boffi. It’s apparently based on the look of the 1954 Maserati A6 G Zagato.

We're assuming the front is as sleek as the rear - Zagato has yet to release full photos.

The Spyder’s wheelbase has been shortened by 180mm, which Zagato says makes for sharper handling.

Despite the shortening, there’s still decent room for two – and their luggage, in the new hatchback.

The GS Zagato is on display at the prestigious Concours d’Elegance Villa d’Este, in Cernobbio, Italy from 20 -22 April.

I like the front, but I'm not that keen on the back.

Oh dear.

Why not base it on the nicer-to-drive Gransport instead?

The articles a bit missleading there, because the current Gran Sport and Gran Sport Spyder are coming to the end of their lives and being replaced soon. The full name of this car is the Maserati GS Zagato Coupe, with the GS standing for Gran Sport.

Thats retro. First thing that cam to mind when i saw it was the Bora. 70s style hatch. Im not going to say its beatiful, but it certainly isnt ugly. Decent enough looking for me.

It's okay looking for the car it's based on, but... it doesn't work. The front is almost acceptable, though still very odd, but the back is hideous.

Definitely not digging it - Expensive or not. The rear is completely wrong - Looks like a kitcar with wheels 3 sizes too small....

[shruggs shoulders]

I quite like it, no acquired taste necessary. More for me, I suppose.

Does the word "bespoke" actually mean anything? It's used in British car publications as a neutral and empty adjective too often.

It has some interesting lines, but overall it looks too bulbous, almost over-inflated. I never really liked any of Zagato's designs since the DB4, and they all seem to be retreads of that 1961 design.
