For a car that costs almost twice as much, the ZR1 didn't really outclass the GTR like it should have.

The sheer science of it all says the ZR1 should be quicker, it's lighter, more powerful, more expensive and was designed with one eye on the track. Not to put the ZR1 down mind, I've read and seen plenty that indacates that the sheer performance of the thing is immense, it's just that this thread is pretty much one huge non-event since a: this has been done to death and b: in a straight out performance comparison I don't think anyone would have been the slightest suprised by the results in thoes vids. Now if you wanted to argue which car is better, well that's a whole new ball game but again, done to death.

To make a point, as the resident Corvette guy...

C6 Z51: Porsche 911 Carrera S, Ford Mustang GT500KR, Audi S5, BMW M3, Jaguar XK-R, Maserati Gran Turismo

C6 Z06: Porsche 911 Turbo/GT3, Audi R8, Ferrari F430, Lamborghini LP560-4, Nissan GT-R, Merc SL63 AMG, Dodge Viper SRT-10

C6 ZR1: Porsche 911 GT2, Ferrari 599, Lamborghini LP640, Pagani Zonda, Dodge Viper ACR

...etc...

Or to put it even more simply, entry-level sports car (Z51), street/track (Z06), and grand touring (ZR1).

You need to remove the Zonda from that list- it's a £300,000+ 'mega car' and in no way comparable to any of the others - more akin to an Enzo/Carerra GT/small house/small yacht.

And you also need to swap the 911 GT2 with the 911 Turbo - the GT2 is the ultimate road track 911 (though some say a GT3RS does a better job), the Turbo is the 'grand touring' 911.

How much more does a ZR1 cost than a GTR in the states? I reckon it is about 3/5 of the price over here if not less.

False, even the Z06 is quicker (or at the same level) than a base model Zonda, the ZR1 could bother the Zonda F if well driven.

I wasn't trying to start an argument. I just found it interesting after seeing numerous fanboys touting the GTR as not just a Corvette killer but Zr1 killer.

I like the GTR for what it is don't get me wrong, it's a damn fast car.

Also I've heard that the GTR has some major transmission reliability issues. If that's true then I'd have to add in $20k your gunna be paying for a new transmission every 10,000 miles. If that's the case it is just as expensive as the Zr1.

The ZR1 comes in right around $100-110K here in the US, the GT-R is supposed to hit right around the $70K range, smack where the Z06 has been for the past few years. Although, I seem to recall Nissan saying they were increasing the price on the GT-R slightly, but I can't recall what it was. Either way, you're never going to find a GT-R for sticker price, and I'm doubting it for the ZR1 as well. Of the three, the Z06 is likely to be the only one that remains at the $70K flat rate.

It's not the speed differential, it's a class differential... a Zonda is a handmade Italian supercar and is a purchase only really feasible for the mega-rich at c.$500,000... anyone contemlating a Zonda purchase isn't looking at a plastic bodied car made by mass manufacturer as an alternative.

Except performance wise they are exactly correct the way they are.

Yesterday I read in the paper one Nissan dealership ad had the GT-R priced for around $87,700, so at least in some places they are quite a bit over the 70k price.

There are apparently three here in Grand Rapids, and I know one of them sold for $20K over sticker. At least, thats what the salesman told me. The first one was bought by the owner, the third one (which I hear is red, the first two silver and black respectively), I'm not even sure where it came from. It was my understanding we were only getting two at the local "big" Nissan dealer.

Even more strange, I've yet to see any of them.
