Logitech G29 (PlayStation/PC)

The G29 is a complete starter rig in one box: a leather-wrapped wheel fixed to a force feedback base, three pedals including a clutch, and clamps built into the base so it holds onto a desk without tools. It works with PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC. Inside, two motors turn the wheel through gears. That is enough to feel what matters, like the steering loading up through a fast corner and going light when the front tires slide, but the gears also add a slightly notchy feel and a rattle over curbs. At 2.3 Nm it is gentle, so any sturdy desk will do. The G920 is the same wheel for Xbox.

G29 vs. Thrustmaster T128

Thrustmaster's T128 sits a step down the range. Its hybrid belt and gear drive runs a little smoother than the G29's gears, and its pedals use magnetic sensors that do not wear the way the G29's do. The catch is that it comes with only two pedals, so there is no clutch for driving a manual gearbox. The G29 is the better pick if you want all three pedals in the box.

G29 vs. G923

The G923 is the same wheel and motor with two additions. TRUEFORCE plays engine and road detail through the wheel in games that support it, and its brake pedal uses a progressive spring that firms up the harder you press. It is no stronger than the G29, so in games without TRUEFORCE the two drive alike. The G29 gives up those two features and nothing else.

G29 vs. RS50 System

The RS50 System is a much bigger change. It moves to direct drive at 8 Nm, which is smoother, stronger, and far more detailed than the G29's gears, and it adds TRUEFORCE and a quick release for changing wheels later. It comes without pedals, but the G29's pedals connect to it through Logitech's Racing Adapter, so they can come along if you upgrade.
