The motor turns the wheel through a toothed belt. The belt smooths out the sharpest detail, which is why a belt base feels softer than a direct drive of the same strength, and it is also what makes them quieter and cheaper.

Quick release

The coupling that holds the steering wheel onto the base and lets you swap wheels without tools. Each manufacturer has its own, and they do not interchange: a Fanatec wheel does not fit a Moza base because the couplings are different shapes.

The TX Racing Wheel Servo Base is Thrustmaster's belt-driven base for Xbox and PC, sold on its own for a Thrustmaster wheel of your choice. A brushless motor drives the wheel through two belts, which is smoother and quieter than gears, and H.E.A.R.T. magnetic sensing reads the steering at 16-bit resolution. It turns up to 900 degrees, attaches wheels with Thrustmaster's screw-on quick release, and clamps to a desk or bolts to a cockpit. Wheels and pedals are sold separately.

TX vs. T248

The T248 is the complete step down: a wheel, three pedals, and a clamp in one box, with a hybrid drive and a fixed wheel. The TX base is the one to pick for swapping wheels.

TX vs. TS-XW

The TS-XW Servo Base is Thrustmaster's step up on Xbox, with a 40-watt brushless motor and built-in motor cooling for stronger forces that hold up in long sessions. It takes the same wheels and pedals.
