Further explanation of the theme, provided by first-time winner Primus Ortus:

"I'd like to see everyone's best interpretation of the down-to-the-wire fight between
two or more cars. It can be on any real world track (Indy, Daytona, Monza, Tsukuba,
Nürburgring, Suzuka, Laguna Seca, Fuji, or Circuit de la Sarthe.)"

CARS: Any
LOCATIONS: All Real Circuit tracks, except Top Gear Test Track
PHOTOTRAVEL: No
UNIQUE RESTRICTIONS: See above

Please, ensure you read and understand all requirements for this competition. Failure to follow
the rules may result in disqualification. If you have questions, send me a Private Message.
This Thread will answer many possible questions you may have.

  • It is recommended you host your image on ImageShack, Photobucket, or Flickr.
  • Not sure how to post a thumbnail or preview image? Read this sticky!
  • Please use a clickable-preview to full-size, not a separate text link for it;
it makes poll creation much easier!

  • No post-GT5 editing, besides proportionally resize and rotate, is allowed.
[*]One entry per user. It must be your own work, and never previously used in a comp.
[*]Do not ask other users to choose your entry.
[*]Mark your FINAL ENTRY clearly, with red text. On H2H weeks, which side, as well.
[*]You may change your entry once. Do it clearly; edit out your previous entry, and
either post the new one in a new reply, or in place of the original.
[*]When submitting, use either a thumbnail or a preview image, linked to the full-sizer.
[*]Preview images can not exceed 500 pixels in either direction.
[*]A preview image must be representative of the full-size image. Do not add effects to it.
[*]Do not post "Honourable Mentions" or outtakes - just your Final Entry, that's all.
[*]Winner gets to choose the following week's theme, as well as the Top 25. Every fourth
week, the poll will be H2H style: entries must choose a "team", leading to two 12-picture,
4-day polls. The winners from each faces off in a final 48 hour poll.
[*]Winners cannot enter in their own theme!
[*]The Host may ask for the original image and it must be submitted if so.
It's recommended to save the original image (preferably in-game) until week's ends.
Failure to follow these rules will result in ignored entries and/or disqualification!

Some helpful words from our judge this week:

Primus Ortus
Perhaps some guidance for the competitors may be in order. I look for pictures that are compelling - photos that tell a story and make me want to be in the bleachers viewing the action up close. I'm a sucker for good lighting, tone, and composition.

You heard the man!

FINAL ENTRY

.Closing Down The Door.

I guess i'll be using this for a while.
This is from my online race in Fuji. My most epic races. We swap the lead like 8 time in 1st lap. I won, eventually, in that stuck up Macca.
They accused me hitting them after the race. For sure, they close the door on me when i'm infront of them, i've no where to go. =_=

Err, so basicly we need to take up the shoot at the start/finish line while fighting off position?

Looks like i've miss interprete the rule. :ill:

I don't really know.. I'm not the judge hehe.
But IMO a shot with 2/3 cars fighting for the the first place at the finish line is a photo finish.

Looks like i'll be taking cautious move from now on. :scared:

Right, that's what i thought about at first but seeing others entries, my thought just got clean up by that.

Ah, either way i got my last chance to change it. I'll be posting it on Friday...or any other day beside today. :P

does cote d'azur count ?

Good question, but the answer is no. We are only using World Circuits as designated by GT5 for this comp, with the exception of Top Gear Test Track, which I have excluded. Although Cote d'Azur is supposed to emulate Monaco, GT5 lists it as a city circuit. There is a list of the world circuits by GT5 HERE.

To quote the all-knowing Wikipedia:

"A photo finish occurs in a sporting race, when two (or more) competitors cross the finishing line at near the same time."

(Although there are some great pics already posted, some do not fit the definition of "Photo Finish".)

That's what I though Primus Ortus.
Quick question : does the finish line has to be visible ?

This all reminds me of the quote, "No battle plan survives contact with the enemy". In other words, it's one thing to make the plans, but once they are put into action, things always come up. :sly:

Technically, a photo finish is one where the race is so close at the finish line, a photo of the finish must be examined to determine who won the race. In that sense, I think a start/finish line should be in the picture.

I was going to make it more open to interpretation, but I think the limitation here is a good one. It will require everyone to make a concerted effort at timing and composition. Alas, if only we could rewind playback on photomode! :ouch:

possible feature of the 2.0 update? I hope so! This looks to be a good theme :D I shall get an entry in in the next few days 👍

I have a nice pic at Fuji Speedway of a race I won by .007 seconds but at Fuji, the chrono stops in a place where there is no line. There's just a time board above the track but it's not very visible. I'll post it later and I'll see...

Just as an idea, I'm sure you could use a rolling start and get close to a competitor car as you cross the start/finish line to start the race. Might be a little easier to recreate a photo finish that way...

Yeah we know what a photo finish means. No need for the tutorial. Have you actually ever tried to race against the AI? How many times have you had a photo finish with it? In the odd case you did, how many times have you been able to get the replay to stop at the exact same instant as the first car crosses the line?

Seriously, why don't people put this much thought when voting.

Haven't done PMC Entries in the last few weeks. Hope this one fits the requirements though.

Final Entry

edit: btw, the finish-line is visible in this shot! ;)

FINAL ENTRY

From a Concours Club race. I'm in the yellow car and end up winning by 2 thousandths of a second. :D

Nice idea:idea: but I don't think that'll work or look as effective...?!? Could be wrong though:rolleyes:

Good thing I've got some close online race wins available:)
