Now the true giants…the giants of land and sea...and the horridly complex. The 14 Cyl. and up engines. I’ve decided not to nominate an engine on this one, so it’s all up to you!

Nominations Criteria
• ONE NOMINATION PER MEMBER. (Including me)
• Must be Gasoline or Diesel engine with more than fourteen cylinders
• May be race, street, Aircraft, Marine, whatever
• May be any configuration, except Radial.
• Try giving some good reasons.
• Engines/families are pretty much grouped by Manufacturers’ classifications, and by how interchangeable parts are. Wikipedia will be extensively used in these judgments.

Current Nominees
Cizeta Moroder V16T V-16
VAG/Bugatti W-16 (Bugatti Veyron)
Wärtsilä-Sulzer RTA96-C I-14 (Ships?)
Rolls Royce Vulture X-24 (Manchester bomber)
Napier Deltic Tri-18 (BR Class 55 Locomotive)

Cizeta-Moroder V16T 6.0 Liter QHOC (Yes, QHOC. Not Dual DHOC) 64 Valve V16 engine.
540 BHP@8000RPM, 400 lb.ft.@6000RPM, 8500 RPM redline.
Even more awesome than the EB110 motor.

Edit: Damn, beaten to it.

I nominate the.....Wärtsilä-Sulzer RTA96-C ...the largest reciprocating engine in the world!

Inline 14, 25480 L (that'll show those wimpy LS7s ;))
Weight: 2300 tons
Length: 89 feet
Height: 44 feet
Maximum power: 108,920 hp at 102 rpm
Maximum torque: 5,608,312 lb/ft at 102rpm

:D

Are we just doing car engines?

If so, I put forth the caddy 16 (the old school one).

If not, how about the Rolls Royce Vulture. An X-24  44L engine powering some (maybe all?) Avro Manchesters

i think you shouldn't have put everything above 12 into on category. there a lots of unique great engines...one should at least distinguish between car engines, train engines, plane engines and boat engines. ;)

I nominate the.....Wärtsilä-Sulzer RTA96-C ...the largest reciprocating engine in the world!

ah, my plan! :D

then i'll nominate the unique napier deltic.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Napier_Deltic

18 cylinders, 36 pistons, 88 litres, over 3000hp, lotsa torque and a great noise.

@ Vladmir: There's just not enough of these monsters to go around. besides, we've got other types of engines in other categrories. (Merlin V-12, Briggs Singles, etc.)
@ Philly Cheese: Any engine you please. I'd assume the Vulture's your nomination?

((By the By, The Vulture did power all Manchesters...but didn't work too well. so, twice the Merlins were installed, and it became the Lancaster))
