Replay Checking:

  1. It is customary for all participants of the WRS to verify each others submitted replays
  2. Once you have checked the replay, post in this thread to say that you have checked it and whether it's clean, dirty or doesn't meet the required race specifications
  3. When verifying a replay, check against this weeks race specification, check that the tyres are the correct compound and that the power and weight is correct for example
  4. If you are unsure about a replay, always seek a second opinion before posting

Congrats to the podiums, the negative handicaps, and everybody who submitted a lap. This place was brutal, at least for me.

There is no way my handicap should have been negative.

Congrats to Manu for the only time in the 31's and convincing overall win.

Well done by all of the other Division winners and podium finishers.

I got an early start on replay checks, here's what I have so far -

Wall hit on the left at the T2 split.

I like you, please don't take the commentary the wrong way, I want to help you improve. But don't leave running and submitting a lap until an hour from deadline on the last day, it sets you up for panicking and ending up with a DQ like this one.

Please DO NOT rename your replay folder. It's an enormous pain to figure out the number of the replay to properly rename it so I can view it on the PS3.

Some tips on your lap.

You can get through the first kink with only a lift, possibly some light braking, but do not need to brake before it.

Your T2 looks pretty good until the final corner. You need to get all the way to the left to set up for the exit right hand corner, even if it means slowing and losing some built up momentum. And, you hit the wall on the exit of T2, so I have to DQ your lap. 👎

You brake too much entering the circle, carry more speed in. Your second apex is too early, hit it later and you can be on the gas for the exit. Final chicane is too careful, but clean.

mtbmik50
greenflag-gif.152575

You can brake less entering the kink, carry in more momentum, make sure you get to the back as you finish braking for the hairpin. Then can be right back on full throttle for the exit.

Braking is too early for the T2 complex, and you are too slow in the first turn. Try to keep a tighter line in the left hand loop, even if you have to lift some. As much as anything, it's to set up for the very important right hand exit onto a long flat out section. You tried to set up, but the car needs to start further to the left there.

Loop corner looks pretty good, a bit tighter line would be faster, closer to the middle of the track at the deepest.

Chicane, I liked to set up my braking so my right wheels were in a straight line to the right side entry curb, lift the brake before you hit it, blip the throttle, then mash it once you've grabbed the left curb for exit. You don't use any of the curbs here, making you much slower.

Nice and tidy lap, tips are intended to help you learn where to gain the most speed the quickest. Remember that carrying built up speed off long straights and getting on the throttle early as you enter long straights are some of the most important factors to being fast.

Mark_Sebo
greenflag-gif.152575

Better job of managing braking and apexes this week, but your braking is still careful and early.

Similar to mtbmik, you can brake less entering the kink, carry in more momentum, make sure you get to the back as you finish braking for the hairpin. Then can be right back on full throttle for the exit.

Braking is too early for the T2 complex, but your lines look really good until the last right hander. You need to set up further left to be able to rotate the car and get on the gas sooner. No braking for that last turn of T2 if you set up right.

Loop corner, you braking is too early and too heavy. Try to learn some trail brake technique, easing off the brake to carry more sped at the end of the brake zone, as you transition to apexes. You come in a bit too tight too soon, cauging you to have to modulate the throttle. Make one second apex about 2/3 of the way through the corner and mash the throttle for exit.

Chicane, you also do not optimize your braking line to set up for grabbing all the right saide curb. It causes you to have to take much wheel angle and slow too much for the left hand exit.

Again, looks like you are getting used to the wheel, nice improvement over last week. Just keeping working on accurate braking points. BTW - Are you using fixed markers or that silly line? If you are using the line, get rid of it. :)

Carrying more speed into the kink would have helped you get a faster T1 time. Even if you needed to brake before it to make it, brake less. Carry in more speed, wait until the back by the hairpin to slow most of your momentum.

Hitting the curb in the left loop of T2 costs you time, a tight line there with little if any curb is best. If you did hit the curb, you want to ride them to stay tight. It pushes you wide, and into a bit of a slide. Your exit setup for T2 is very good. 👍

I think you would find if you do not let this car drift so deep in the loop corner, you would be faster there. About half the track deep seemed fastest. Your exit line is very good, as is your entry line and brake point. You just wanted to keep the car in a bit tighter.

You turn toward the chicane too early, I was doing it from the 50 marker, which gives you a wider entry angle and shallower turn for the exit.

Nice, tidy lap overall. Good driving, congrats on the podium. 👍

greenflag-gif.152575

All I can say about the first kink is, WOW, how did you not crash? A lift with a smoother turn in and trail braking would be more consistent, I think. But that smoke, oh my!

You might have actually been a touch late on the brakes coming into the T2 complex, if you can hit the apex curb for the first left, it rotates the car and sets you up nicely for the rest of it.

You also bounce of the curb in the left loop, keeping it tight and smooth, without hitting the curb, was fastest. For the right exit, you are bouncing off the limiter. I used a short shift to 3rd to help turn in and to allow me to mash the throttle for that important exit.

Loop corner, waiting to get on the gas until it's time for the exit, and then mashing down, would be faster than modulating like you did.

Chicane looks pretty darn good. 👍

Nice lap, you get the big balls award for that first kink.

Congrats on the D3 win. 👍

Nice and tidy through the first kink and hairpin. You might have been able to carry in a bit more speed to get another tenth there, but your line was the right idea.

The short shift to 3rd and mashing the throttle for the right hand exit of the kink would have helped your time. You shifted up, down, and back up again. Just shift to 3rd and hammer down.

Perfect execution of the loop.

Taking a little more of the right curb in the chicane would be faster for you.

Nice and tidy lap, you are a man on the move in D2. Will see you up in D2 soon, no doubt.

Congrats to all winners. Sorry about the DQ Ned. But it's good to see you are getting more competitive times.
Hey Kevin, please let us know if you are doing more replay checks so I don't do the same ones.
I'll start in about 90 minutes.

Interesting gearbox, with the close 2nd/3rd gear. It reminds me of this, watch from the 2:25 mark.

I have all the podiums already downloaded, you can feel free to grab any of the non-podium replays. 👍 :)

You can grab any you want to, of course. Extra checks never hurt, and the D1 replays might help make you faster. Oh, and they won't let me check my own. ;)

Could I request that you download and review mine, I really would like your advice. Its far from a podium, but I sure can use the expert analysis. Thanks.

I'll wait until next week's failu...er...submission on Kevin's home track to ask him for expert analysis (which should go along the lines of, "Go faster. Must go faster.").

I'm disappointed that I failed to make a D2 podium after some competitive splits but it was expected as I just couldn't figure out the chicane. I ran mostly 37.6-37.8 sector times.
But the fact I managed to win the "rat race" (and with my own tune) made me quite happy :)

Its not a big accomplishment, trust me. After this weeks showing, pretty sure I don't even deserve the D2 Gold badge....in way over my head. :scared: It is what it is though, just have to keep plugging away.

Coming out of T2, you do not get far enough left to set up for the exiting right hand turn. A short shift to 3rd helps to get the car pointed for exit and allows you to mash down without grip loss.

You were too tentative coming into the loop, you braked a bit early. You can carry the speed longer, I was hitting the first apex on the left while still under full braking. You don't let the car get deep enough, you try to modulate the throttle and follow the loop around, you want it to be more of a shallow V. Brake in deep, lift, point the car, second apex and and mash it for exit. I saw a variety of techniques on what "mash it" means, but all the fast T3's used the line I describe.

Final chicane line looked decent, you had a bobble and did not hook up right away for exit, I imagine you had better there at times. That was a bit luck based, unfortunately.

mr_lab_rat
greenflag-gif.152575

Interesting technique for the first kink, brake while at full throttle. Something I have not seen since GT4, where it was quite common.

You might also be the only driver with a reasonably quick lap who I saw brake in the left loop corner at the end of T2. That's how you kept 3rd gear, I was lifting and using 2nd.

In T3, I think letting the car carry all the way to the outside in the fast right hander was worth maybe half a tenth. You let it go too deep in the loop, keeping it tighter would have been faster. Close to the right wall in the last chicane, but clean. Probably not your best run through there, I probably don't need to tell you how you could have been faster in it. :)

Congrats on the dominant win Manu. I was hoping for a win this morning but just watched as you crushed any chance I may have had.

@RS_96_oO great job on the podium, you really made me sweat this afternoon, this week's competition was really fun.

Edit: Thanks to Kevin for checking so many replays and for the good write ups. Also thanks to everyone else who checks, the participation in replay checks seems to be much improved over gt5 for some reason.

Thank you. My intentions are to go back and practice this tomorrow with your advice, like I have been doing the last few weeks. Your advice has really helped, especially last week where I went back and after a few hours improved my time by .249...so thanks for doing this, much appreciated.

But, that means you would have beat me with my own advice last week. :scared:

Good thing I didn't give it to you sooner.

And, no problem. I don't mind doing it. I'm unfortunately a bit limited on what I can do right now, so I'm found with some time on my hands, and it goes to things like this. 👍

Edit: Thanks to Kevin for checking so many replays and for the good write ups. Also thanks to everyone else who checks, the participation in replay checks seems to be much improved over gt5 for some reason.
No problem. 👍

I think the immediate replay availability has to help a lot. I was downloading replays and checking them before the results post was even up tonight. Taking out the randomness of when replays become available has to have helped.

Sure, no problem. And I grabbed @mr_lab_rat 's while I was at it, since I know he cannot check his own, either. ;)

Thank you for checking. Sadly that was one of my best runs through that, most of the time I was even slower :)
And I was hoping someone would tell me how to go faster there because I really tried. I think I ran over 1000kms and never got bellow 37.5 sector time.

I'm surprised you noticed the way I took the first sector kink. I felt it helped me to keep the car stable as I ran with minimum downforce.

Well, some of it was in the advice I gave you for the loop, maybe half a tenth, maybe more like a tenth. Certainly, that and the fast right and carrying all the way out were worth 0.1 together. Looks like you were a bit late with the throttle coming out of the loop as well, you would have been better off mashing it and spinning tires than waiting as long as you did.

You lost 0.2 to me in the last sector. The chicane, you went in at the same speed as me and were 2 MPH slower at the lowest speed. You did have the car hop and bit on you and wait to hook up, but your line and speed look pretty darn good.

Nice replay love we have going on in here tonight.

Great win Manu, and fast podiums all down the leaderboard. 👍

Crazy combo and online win, @EDK!

Very clean s1, wheelspin cost you couple of tenths in s2. In s3 roundabout you took the double apex line but didn't really take advantage of it by delaying getting back on throttle.
Sorry I didn't take more notes. It was really good lap except for the s3 roundabout.

PRINGLES_947:

You ran pretty deep into s1 hairpin. Nothing wrong with that but just like Jonjig you failed to take advantage of it by not being aggressive enough on the exit (and the outside curb slowed you down a bit). A bit too deep in the s2 left sweeper but great line through the last corner before T2.
The slide in the chicane. Holy smoke. You came really close to hitting the wall and it was hard to see through the smoke screen :)

You got pretty out of shape in the s1 kink. Maybe my "oldschool" technique of braking while holding throttle could have helped to keep the car stable. The strange line through the kink at the beginning of s2 didn't cost you much time. Were you looking at your split time? :)
A bit deep through the bust stop but good speed but you lost a lot in the long left sweeper. Your line and speed through the sharp right before T2 was excellent. Faster than mine by the way.
Unfortunately you lost the advantage in the roundabout where you struggled for traction. Did you run ABS and TCS? I noticed you pumped the brakes a lot.
For the hairpin you got on brakes very early but once you were there you carried good speed.

Thanks for checking @EDK :tup:Great Comments:tup:.
Still using that silly line:), tried without on this course, but brain was having difficulty multitasking(looking for markers, braking, steering, gear changes) without messing up and hitting the barrier:mad:.
The new combo is ideal

Congratulations to all Podium and Negative Handicaps

Welcome to the Rat Race.

We are in the streets of Madrid. At the starting line we have seasoned veteran Mitch (@GTP_CargoRatt) and the challenger Mike (mr_lab_rat). While Mitch is known for his speed, resiliency, and great tuning skills the newcomer is still making name for himself. In two race prepared Honda Civics the only difference will be small tweaks to the car setup and driver skill.

And they are off!

Mitch squeezes couple more hudreds RPMs out of the high revving engine in fourth gear and take an early lead. Mike catches up before the first hairpin by using oldschool technique of braking while keeping full throttle for the highspeed turn. He might be younger but he has been around long enough to know some tricks.

In the hairpin Mitch has to shortshift to 3rd to avoid wheelspin. Did he disable traction control on his car? This could cost him the race as Mike has put his pride away and used all the modern technology available to pull 1 tenth into the lead.

They both find same groove for braking zone when entering the bus stop and Mitch shows his experience by closing the gap on the exit. He runs faster through the long left sweeper to pull even but the extra speed pushes him towards the middle of the track before the very important sharp right turn. He needs to hit the brakes hard to make the turn and loses a lot of speed

Mike manages to enter the turn very wide and nearly clips the barrier at the apex. With much higher exit speed he runs away towards the next bend.

Ladies and gentlemen, it's all over. Mitch helplessly watches the tail lights disappearing in the distance. He is almost 4 tenths behind now with no chance of catching up. He shows great skill by closing the gap a little bit at the roundabout despite the lack of traction control but it's not enough.

The run through the chicane changes nothing as they run nearly identical line and speed through it.
Mike cruises towards the finish 3 tenths ahead for easy victory.

Edited for grammar mistakes. I mainly write these to practise my english (not my first language).

Wow I didn't know there was that much time to find in the last sector  but given that I tip toed through the chicane. Anyway so happy that I still held on for my second win, after leading the LB for most of the week it would have sucked to lose, so I really worked hard for this one.

Congrats to all other winners and podiums  and to all the great last sectors.

Thanks to @mistersafeway for the low downforce tip, the low downforce made me improve a lot, I wish I used it earlier. And as for sector 1 @kreezydoed gave us a tip about short shifting which was awesome, I don't think I would have hit the .5 if not for that tip so cheers :)

I never thought I'd have so much fun in a city track with an 80s car but it was a blast, cheers Kevin for an awesome combo and for verifying my replay 👍
