I've posted this in a Mixed forum (PS2 and Xbox) and I got a bunch of fan boy's squabbling over who's console is bigger (PS2 and XBox users)...

So i've decided to post on specialist Forum for each game so I can get everyone's opinion and make a desision from there.

I'm condering buying a console, and one of the major reasons for this is because it's the only place developers seem to make any effort to create a serious Sim (GT4 and Forza).
Which brings me to my point i'm either going to buy a XBox or PS2 depending on the quality of GT4 or Forza, i'm been reasearching and watching each title very closely, and needless to say the desision is VERY hard indeed, your all probably vereran console players so I doubt it generates that much excitment ( been there done that got the badge )
Now I can only afford one Console (I'm no millionaire) and my desision soley rests on which game is better GT4 or Forza.
I want to hear your guys opinions on each title good and bad....

GT4

+ Well established
+ Amazing Graphics
+ Amazing Physics
+ Scenery (3D people in rally, in pits, crowd)
+ Photo Mode
+ 50+ tracks Plus many with reverse option
+ Car Museum
+ The Logitech DFP
+ Force Feedback (Sorry forgot to add this)
+ 500 Car's
- Online play is not as established as the Xbox (Netcode not as good as XBox)
- No Damage
- No Interiors (Possible Minimal Interiors)
- No Flipping Cars ( For 'the ultimate driving simulation' pretty unrealistic )
- No Skidmarks
- No Ferrari & Porsche & Lamborghini
- No reverse lights
- Some of the car's look blurred (possibe just bad screen shots) and yes it's the car in focus
- The AI runs on tracks ( make's the AI predictable)

Forza

+ XBox Live is more established than the PS2 alternitive
+ Amazing Graphics
+ Amazing Physics
+ Damage
+ Scenery
+ Flipping Car's
+ Ferrari & Porsche ( Lamborghini Probably ) I have my reasons for beiliving Lamborghini will be in Forza :)
+ Reverse Lights (lol)
+ You actually leave rubber down during an entire race to create a racing line and where you skided off (slow down next time you see that :) )
+ Drivetrain AI (The AI learns and doe's not run on tracks)
- No Logitech DFP (unsure the XBox doe's have USB)
- Force Feedback (no one is very clear on this Xbox is appreantly a ***** to program for)

I'd love to hear your points or experiances or if you need to clear any of my points

But do you seriously expect to get unbiased opinion in a GT4 Forum?
Edit:? I was going to say with the exception of Code Kev, but he just popped in Below--vvv

The DRIVING FORCE PRO.
The whole experience becomes so much more realistic than anything else, with the level of force feedback and 900 rotation and ultra realistic Physics...No controller based game can compare.
Even the old wheel cannot come close to the difference the DFP makes.

500 cars: This is now widely believed to be a very conservative estimate.

- No reverse lights
Serious let down, take off 5 points.

Plus Point
50+ tracks Plus many with reverse option.

Edit: In response to REDOAK below.
it is very difficult to compare GT3 to GT4, for realism, GT4Prologue was a massive improvement in this area, and is so dissimilar and better than GT3, and we appear to be at a level now where the physics engine has advanced more, as well as the graphics engine.
Looking back at GT3 now after Prologue, GT3 seems very dissapointing.

Very Blurred cobbles on this track :)

I like how force feedback is on Forza and not on GT4

1. it's obvious you want Forza.

2. F,P and Lambo might be in. We still aren't sure.

3. Go check out the GT4 Photo Mode Pics.

4. As GTLXLR said, you expect someone to say go for Forza in the GT4 Forum?

I would go with the PS2. I think it has more great games than Xbox, including the GT series. I think GT4 will be better than Forza, it is just too big of a franchise to go down. I think you should also buy and Xbox later on, but I think the PS2 is the better choice.

Reverse lights?, tahts reeally important huh??????

I know ferrari and Porsche and lambo are important, I agree thats a really negative point

Damage, well considering its a car sim, well its important, but common, youre not going to be crashing!

AI will be improved, Kazunori promised that!

3D people in rally, in pits, crowd??????? THATS A +++++++++++++++

Photo Mode +++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Car Museum ++++++++++++++++++++

What else do you want???????

yeah I do expect to get an unbiased opinion in the GT4 forums everyone is very critical of themselves and even extends to the game they play... and since nothing is perfect and can be improved upon I don't see why i'd get a unbiased opinion in a GT4 forum :)

and I did post on a Forza forum also :)

GT4 might have Porsche and Ferrari and Lamborghini in it because EA's liscences are ending soon so maybe GT4 will have these cars. I still say go with the PS2, but wait until GT4 comes out and then decide because GT4 has tons of surprizes we don't know about.

BTW-Forza's damage is really cheezy, I hear it is only bumpers coming off and the what not. It barely makes a difference in the cars performance.

Well it'simple, ignore all the above replys, they suck. Look at both machines, look at the games, decide which games you prefer, buy the machine. Both are superb, but if I HAD to pick one machine, I'd keep my xbox.

I'm leaning toward the XBox right now...... but there's just somthing about Gran Tursmo Series a certain aura hard to explain.... The X Box is all grunt and power and I think GT captures the essence of driving more *shrugs*

Our replys suck, eh? I'm sure yours is much better. Of course YOU would keep your Xbox, you are a SUPER XBOX FAN!

PLUS-The PS2 comes with a game and a network adpter for $150. With the Xbox, you pay $150 but get no game and still have to pay monthly for online service. The PS2 is cheaper in the long run.

I take it GT4 has no bad points you all seemed pretty quick to praise it and defend it when I never attacked it...... I'm just curious.... I want to make the right desision and also how you all respond will affect my desision because let's face it why would I want a game with a bad community... :)

Google xbox connect, instal it on ya pc, read instructions and sign up. Connect your xbox to your pc/router/hub. Play :)

Having not played a finished version of GT4, i couldn't really comment, but the lack of damage, skid marks, interiors, reverse lights, flipping cars, is abit of a shame.

If you want numbers or technical advise on which console is better. Here it is.

The Xbox is better. It is younger, as most raw cpu power, its memory management is better and faster, its DvD reader is better (for movie watching), its got more access possibilities (4 controlers, 8 memory unit access), its got built in HD, built in Network access and XboxLive is very good, especially with the headset.

Those are undisputable facts. I don't want to start an argument over this and i don't care what other people think, i work in the industry, i've worked for 2 years with Sony as a platform specialist on PS2, and i am now working with Microsoft as a platform specialist on Xbox. It is better.

Now, for the games in general, ps2 as about 8 times more games then Xbox. Of that, i'd say PS2 has about 3 to 1 good quality games over Xbox.

As for GT4 or Forza, i have both consoles, so i will buy both. But GT3 as proven itself numberous times already (3 times in America), while Forza is a newcomer that no one as played yet, unless you were at E3 this year.

If you want a good impression, rent or borrow a pS2, play GT3, that will give you an idea of the realism of the GT series. Now multiply by 4, that's what we think GT4 will be like (aprox.). As for Forza, the only other racer that has had good reviews on Xbox is Project Gotham racing 2. Go rent or borrow an Xbox and try it out.

All else i can tell you is, GT3 as a background of quality and experience. Forza doesn't. As for better graphics, based on screenshots so far, GT4 as more details and better texture quality.

hope this helps.

hmmm let me think.........

Forsa......

+ Its smart enough to copy Gran Turismo

- It on the thing they call a console.........Xbox

GT forever............Robin

I'll take GT4 any day over Forza. Why go for a totally new game when you can go for a game that has a historic lineage of great games?

Thanks code! Could you link to that? I can't find it.

But I think GT4 will still be the better game!

hmmm let me think.........

Forsa......

He didn't even spell forza right...I think that says it all really.

:dunce:

btw want a race spawn? what games ya got :)

I'm just keeping an open mind about which will be better.

The thing that will interests me is that polyphony has had no compo and has never had to fight it out for anything EVER.... and if Forza is a hit and come Summer 2005 XBox 2 arrives along with Forza 2 i'd imagine PS2 will loose more ground than they thought possible...

What about GT5 on PS3???? I think Forza 2 and GT5 would be another good competition.

They could do, people said that sony wouldn't stand a chance against sega, and see what happened! Stranger things have happened.

forza 2 and gt5 will make this generations games look so sad. I can't wait!

yeah PS3 is not scheduled for realease until 2006 Microsoft has opted for Summer 2005 or there abouts which means they must be confident about there software lineup and it would not suprise me if Forza 2 was included in that list of debut titles (nothing but speculation)

Forza 1 is not due till later this year, dont think theyll be ready with a new system title that pushes new boundries to appear 6 months later.

Either way, the new consoles should be ridiculous, if any of you have seen the shots of the unreal engine 3.0, it's probs a good indication of what to expect.
