Getting Started

For beginners or people looking for a step in the right direction, this may be of some use. I will outline some advice I have gathers through tuning and advice passed to me.

Once you pick the car you want to tune/are trying to tune:
Generally a good starting spot is to get a basic setup for the suspension based on FF, AWD, or FR/MR/RR. Next I move on to the transmission and good a nice good transmission flip. If you don't know what that is look at the first post on how to setup transmission. You are not looking for a perfect transmission yet, just one that will be nice and smooth to get the suspension to within 95% of what the car needs. Now we move back to the suspension and test different components one by one. This works better using a black screen launch and the car in auto to ensure consistency. Once the suspension is right where you want it, work on ballast and aerodynamics if needed. Lastly, we get the transmission fixed and the car should be ready to go.

Suspension

These are good starts but do not apply to all cars

FF
Ride Height: Min/Max
Springs: Min/Max
Camber: 0.0/5.0
Toe: 0.0/-1.00

AWD
Ride Height: Min/Max
Springs: Max/Max
Camber: 0.0/0.0
Toe: 0.0/0.0

FR/MR/RR
Ride Height: Min/Max
Springs: Max/Min
Camber: 5.0/0.0
Toe: -1.00/0.0

Transmission

There is a lot that could be said here, but here are some quick notes:
1) If you can get the last gear to reach max HP as you cross the line, that is best. That way you aren't giving up power as you finish and are still pulling.
2) Redline is not the perfect shift point for all cars, but it is more consistent. Some cars drop 500 RPM on shifting and others 800 RPM, it's car dependent.
3) Try to keep you car in the highest possible average power. For sake of explaining consider a car that has peak HP that is symmetrical at 7500 RPM. If the car drops 500 RPM you would want to shift at 7750 RPM, 500/2=250+7500=7750 RPM.
4) You don't need to use every gear, some cars have to much torque to launch in first gear.
5) Simplified: Torque=Launch/Acceleration Horsepower=Top Speed/Pull
6) The lower you can get the final gear, the better.

IMG_20120519_140708.jpg

This image will help you understand what it means when I say for example 3 of 10 for the transmission.

Ever wonder why you get beat even though you flipped your transmission nicely? Well here is an example that might help you. A transmission with a 2.000 final and top speed of 160 is faster than a transmission with a 2.345 final and top speed of 160. It makes a big difference, especially the higher final you end up with, example 2.000 > 2.100 > 2.200 > and so on.

This is by no means meant to replace the Drag Tuning Bible. I encourage you to read it. All this is, is practically cliff notes. If there is something you feel I should add/change, message me.

Now onto the tunes...

The FIRST time is a "timed" launch. (Hitting the throttle just before START appears.)
The SECOND time is a "black screen" launch. (Hitting the throttle before your car appears on the screen.)

You should like try to put in some numbers... Like for tranny at least tell like 1st gear, 2nd, and 3rd. 4,5,6 is usually all to the right.

EDIT- I was wobbly on the suspension, good you fixed that 👍 now I got that down :)

His nothing shaved my supra time of 9.985 to a 9.948 with no spoiler. I think he has contributed something in my eyes.

Ride Height: High/High
Spring Rate: Low/High
Dampers E: High/Any
Dampers C: High/Any
Camber: Play with it
Toe: Play with it a lot
Aero: Add some aero
Transmission: Try 160-170mph

got my supra down to 9.955 from 9.985! thankyou heaps! :)

damnit im doing 9.955 WITH a wing.

Consistently with the wing I am averaging right where you are at. With a perfect launch and 2nd gear start I am ALMOST under 9.900 (current lowest I've hit being 9.903)

Also, I am having varying result with different transmissions. I will add some transmission advice tomorrow I would like to say.

Aghh!! Such a low 9. Have you tested the supra without a wing?

oh nice thankyou :). my transmission must need a brush-up

Nice work and an excellent starting point. 👍

To anyone that can't figure it out, these are great settings to tune from. The key is to test and tune. Find the best combination from what is given and you will experience great gains in your time.

Again, good job bro!

Great stuff with this Trybal.. but I'm really sorry.. I just love horse racing too much.. but it's "thoroughbred" one word :) my favourite hobby and past time is horse racing.. my first job was as a track rider for the local stables.. I'm a wee bit heavy to be a jockey  (no offence there Fest0r :P)

Yes I know how to spell it. But sadly, GHB is a swear word on GT5, Thoroughbred. So we had to split it up.

Too funny. I hate their filtering system. Sometimes I type a message to only get ************************. It gets pretty frustrating. Guess I should get a mic huh?

The word engine is blocked. So when someone asks me for help many times I'll write a long message and it will just be stars. :(

That's a cool way of giving tune ideas. I started learning from the Tuning Bible Dr. Slump made and did my own thing. Thumbs up for you for helping!

So far this Corvette did the 1/4 mile in 9.296s in 1st gear and maxed out at the 1 mile.

i was playing with that car to day, got 9.279, but with spring back low and the front high, and i had to quick shift 1st 2nd 3rd at 7000 rpm to get that time.top speed was set 170 to 182.

This Mazda with a good tune is capable of running next to and beating Civics/Integras.

I will buy this car :)

Great work on the tunes. The simplicity is elegant. If people can't figure this out then they're just not trying. Keep up the good work bro.👍

These tunes are perfect because they guide people in the right direction without actually giving them a tune which they'll claim as their own. This helps encourage effort and innovation.

I respect this thread trybal 👍 to you.

Agree,we need to stop giving handouts, that's what ssrx is for,to do you're homework. Is not that we don't like helping people out it's more of you got to pay you're dues, my opinion of course.
