Nice pics john, and video Rich. i see what happened to me now in the third race 1:07:45, put my foot down in the renault(on a corner) it gave me oversteer and unfortunately had a dink. Must practise in the Renault next time.. Sorry Half (as you already know).
Missed the first race due to connection drop outs, then it was jumping for a bit but settled down. Hope it's a bit lighter next time, dusk / dawn is best.
Had a phone call before the last race, had to drop out. Roll on next week.

A corner, cold tyres and R5 turbo lag, never a good combination. :)
(It's OK, I won't make a slow motion replay video)

The 3rd (longer) race is always the darkest, so pick the brightest headlights. The others have varying degrees of light.

ok kitty lover ( big ones small ones
Strangely enough one is a big one and the other a small one. Neither have much in the way of aromas.

and specifically for those behind me in the ford, first race, yes, rallycross setting was actually selected (ive no idea how) but i changed it after the third race, wow that really helped, weird.

Just a heads up that there won't be any track limit exclusions in Monday's race at Rouen. There isn't really anywhere that corner cutting would be a benefit to racing. So while the limits will be off, although they are rally cars, keep on the tarmac as much as possible.

And perhaps practice braking for the hairpin in each of the cars!!
:scared:

See you in France.

Hello chaps, terribly sorry about this, but it seems that my wife is attending a BBQ on Monday. And she expects me to be there. And it's at East Keswick, near Leeds. Which is about a hundred miles from home. DAMMIT! I love this circuit, and I've been practicing with all sorts of motors on it. It's ace :)

Anyway, I hope you all have a lovely time in France, and I'll see you the week after.

Cheers, Zo.

The cobbled hairpin at the circuit’s tip ... offered drivers a novel challenge".
It does indeed. And on that point... I've been thinking of things to try and alleviate "problems" on that hairpin, particular on the 1st lap.

There was a possibility of a rolling start because the cars accelerate differently, but that just meant everyone would be going much faster, close together, into the downhill section. So no to that.

Then there was maybe a no overtaking before the hairpin, but it's quite a long way to the corner. So that wouldn't work too well either.

So the only thing I could perhaps introduce is a no overtaking at the hairpin and in the section leading into the hairpin - on any lap.

There's a checkered sign on the right of the track just before the braking area - I'll class this as the start of the non overtaking section. See picture below.

After the hairpin you're free to overtake again.

It's also been brought to my attention that there is a cut through at the hairpin. I'd like everyone to use the normal track but the cut though can be used in an emergency - avoiding another car etc.

And she expects me to be there.
It's quite the hectic social life you lead Zo :-)

I'll put this on here since someone might read it.

There is an outside chance that I might not make it this evening. Or possibly just be a little late.

A friend of mine, who has a detached retina, is in hospital today having it hopefully repaired. I'm on chauffeur duties and will be picking him up and dropping him off at home (20 miles away!). I should think I'll get the phone call to pick him up sooner than later because the surgeons will want to get off home, or to the golf course. But if there is a delay for any reason it could affect our racing start time tonight.

Everything will probably be fine, this is just heads up just in case it isn't and I can't let you know later. You'd be wondering what was happening.

The results will be a bit delayed this week. Someone has just realised that in the absence of Andreas they should have been taking a screen shot of the finishing positions. But didn't. However I did save all the races so I'll have to watch them all until the end. Tomorrow probably.

Had some good races last night (thanks Paul), even if it was really narrow and prone to accidents. I stuck with the Renault (hoping it would help consistency) im sure that was allowed, as 4th was my best. Started to bond with that little thing. Dawn racing was the best.....but.....those bloody kerbs!
I think xero's swear jar must be pretty weighty after that session.

Quick review

First, have to say I came to love this track (the name was familiar as a classic F1 track but didn't know it in PCars2 and don't think I ever played any game version of it before). Twisty, difficult, it is a drivers track, every new lap is a challenge.

With so many races my old brain has some difficulty setting them apart but I'll try to recollect

Race 1 - Ford RS200. Good race, Rich was leading and spun in the last corner, I inherited the lead only to do the exact same thing one lap later, allowing Napalm into 1st place. Fair enough he was clearly the faster guy (him and Joe, doing 2:01's like proper aliens ). Finished 2nd

Race 2 - Renault 5 Turbo. Race plagued by mistakes, ended 5th trying to catch Simon in 4th but he didn't put a wheel wrong in the last few laps so that was it

Race 3 - Renault 5 Turbo again. The Gods of Random Grid Making were benevolent enough to give me pole position and I did the best out of it. Have no idea what the hell happened back there but I heard lots of nasty words in many languages (including portuguese ;) ). Alone out front I focused on what I was doing and I think I won this race with about 1 minute from everyone else. LOL, it must have been fun to be with the pack!)

Race 4 - Audi quattro S1. A nice race. This car is clearly the slower but in this track it could hold its own especially because it is the easiest to drive, unfazed by kerbs it just keeps going. It was probably the most interesting race I did, and it surely is the one I am most proud of. Richard (also in an Audi) kept me on my toes for the entire race and even if we never really traded places I think we both gave it our best with that car. To end 3rd was a nice addition because I could switch once again to the Ford. Or so I thought ...

Race 5 - Ford RS 200 (again). What a NIGHTMARE of a race! :embarrassed::lol::embarrassed: I think the Audi made me forget just how "on the edge" the Ford must be driven. So I made a mess of this race, with some hilarious accidents and incidents. I guess @John Wells witnessed many of my braindead moments and must have thought something like "Mario's drinking again and I'm sure this time it isn't beer" :odd::P

But yes, it was beer as usual! Had a great time with you gents (also as usual). Big props for my good friend raeggee for his first outright win with this group. May you taste victory many times more! :)

Cheers all, I'm going away from Lisbon this weekend for a much needed holiday but I'm taking my rig (PS4/Playseat/Wheel) with me and will try to convince raeggee's wife that it is better to have two playseats rather than one in the living room so I can play from his house next monday! We'll see how that one goes!

It sure is, and if you enjoy a car that's the best way. Just don't enjoy it enough to get on the podium.

I learnt some new words yesterday, many in multiple languages. I considered it an educational evening :-)

What a NIGHTMARE of a race!
I see you're not requesting a replay video ;-)

Hats off to @Napalm_LT for this one. Didn't finish below 2nd all night, after missing the first two weeks of racing, and all while steering one handed! I could manage a 2:01 if I pushed it (and used the handbrake around the hairpin) but not lap after lap. What a belter of a track, not surprising that they had to close it for safety reasons!

Checked into Hotel California yesterday, had a few laps around Sonoma. It's a new track to me, reminds me of Laguna Seca (not surprising given they're in the same area). Nothing quite as crazy as the corkscrew, but the cambers and elevation changes are formidable. Great if you hit the cambers right, not so much if you don't.

Has anyone mastered T6 yet (The long, sweeping, downhill left hander)? Entry and mid corner are tricky, you're supposed to stay in the middle but it's easy to run wide or hug the inside and narrow your exit angle.

Might be around today at some point for practice, currently digging up the garden for re-flagging so it depends how I feel after that!
