Formula Legends Coming to PC and Consoles from September 18, Free Demo on All Platforms

Pint-sized racing game Formula Legends now has a confirmed launch date of September 18, and it’ll be available on PC, Xbox One/Series, PlayStation 4/5, and Nintendo Switch.

We’ve been keeping an eye on this title since a developer presentation back in April, and Formula Legends has undergone a couple of overhauls since then as 3DClouds looks to get its homage to the whole history of F1 ready to launch.

The cutesy racer currently has a free demo available on Steam, with the developer reporting that 50,000 players tried it out in the first week alone, and console players will be getting in on the action too as a free demo launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series from August 6. Switch players can join in too, from August 14.

Originally conceived of as a third-person racer, fan feedback from the initial reveal has resulted in adjustable chase cameras and a cockpit cam in the latest demo, and while the title has its own unique look it masks a surprising level of depth.

Although lacking an official licence from the sport, 3DClouds has nonetheless gone all-out on making Formula Legends look like a tribute to the bulk of F1 history — from the 1960s up to the present day — featuring 16 different cars representing various decades and 14 circuits that recreate the feel of well-known locations across three different eras.

Features like dynamic weather, track evolution, vehicle damage, tire wear and fuel consumption all play into the driving mechanics, while the cars include era-appropriate technologies from the current hybrid and “wind reduction system” down to more simple fare — and refuelling requirements.

Famous teams and drivers are all represented, though with interpretative names reminiscent of the old Geoff Crammond F1 titles and Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge, and have special abilities such as tire preservation or wet weather prowess.

You’ll be able to customize your races however you like, from the regulations through to the weather, what driving assists are available, and your opponents. There’s also a time attack mode for hot-lap enthusiasts, with online leaderboards.

The cute looks also come with a cute price, as Formula Legends will be available at $/€/£19.99 on all platforms when it launches on September 18.

In the meantime, players on PC and ninth-gen consoles can try out that free demo, which features two tracks (Belgium and Hungary) and three eras of car (Mid ‘70s, Early ‘90s, Mid ‘20s).
