Anyone else playing Outrun2/SP day in day out just to gaze at the Ferraris, and to enjoy drifting them in one of the few games you can do it well in???!!!

:) :) :) :)

I own the PC version of the game, and yeah... I bought it pretty much only because of the Ferraris. The game itself was alright, fun for awhile but it got boring quite fast IMO. And I was also disappointed that they didn't include engine sounds. :(

I have a demo of the Outrun game, its like the most arcad-ish game ever made IMO :dunce:
yup, but still fun. u want realism, u play gt

yes i does get boring quite quickly, especially after completing it. not quite there yet... but yes, engine sounds! would have been so nice. especially as you can set the level of the sounds to be louder/quieter than the music :]

I got "OutRun 2006: Coast to Coast." A thing I don't like is how you have to have the PSP AND a copy of the same game for the PSP. All just to unlock some extra stuff. And again, I'm not going to take cheap shots at GT (besides GT1 through GT4) just because Ferrari's included. I even mentioned when we had the "Game Reviews" thread that Ferrari's prescence alone doesn't make it a great game. I also noted that PD could have taken from some of the Ferraris in this game to think about maybe adding Ferrari in the future. The old school racing action made it great. I got it for the PS2 because I was hoping the Sega Super GT and Daytona USA 2 tracks would be included. Since they weren't, I still got it for some of the great action and killer drifts. This is a game which shows that the classic style of racing games isn't dead. Games nowadays boil down to online play and damage and not actual racing by the people who judge them.

Apart from all of this, I do like to just gaze at some of the Ferraris. All of them are well-done. My favorite is the Dino because it's an easy car to drive. I think some of the OutRun-spec Ferraris could have been more race cars than some average tuner machines. My favorite looking OutRun machine is the 360 Modena with its racy rear wing. I usually try to get the cars in red and the dark blue color available. The machines all have the same Ferrari sound (for what I know, anyways). It's a well-done game.

agreed! it's very fun to play. it's simplistic but so much fun to play.
can't wait to fire it up again this evening :)
but yes the PSP-only stuff is very annoying. i can't understand why they'd do that. when they are trying to combat piracy, penalising people who have actually gone out and bought the game by telling them they need to buy more is NOT the answer. :(
as for my faves, the OR F50 is actually modelled heavily on the F50 GT1, albeit with a different rear wing. The testarossa convertible is a gem though. It empitomises the era I grew up in, the games I loved to watch in the arcades as a kid and importantly, it's a car that never existed!!!

👍

The PSP only stuff is annoying but there is a way to unlock it on the PS2 without having a PSP.

Go and edit your license and change your name to ENTIRETY. Decline when prompted to confirm the changes. All of the content in the game including the PSP only cars will be unlocked. Now you can drive the F355!

oh wow, thanks! sega rox again lol.

do u know if that gives you triple A on all the courses? i'd rather it didn't do that... :/

Thanks for the little cheat code. I tried it out earlier tonight. I could basically race any car as well as listen to some of the extra songs. I finally got to hear the extra BGMs of the four songs you need the PSP for. Thanks for that little cheat. I made sure to make a seperate profile to make this happen. Thanks for the cheat code! I'm normally not reliant of cheat codes. But I think it's a damn shame that you need the PSP just to access some extras. I also hated that this game didn't have the Super GT/SCUD Race and Daytona USA 2 tracks that I wanted to play around with.

Other than that, this is a chance to play one of the last true old school racing games of the modern era.

I hope Sega follows through on their recent (2006) renewal of the "Super Hang On" trademark.

You know, Wolfe, I was thinking about an Hang-On for the 21st Century. I'd surely love to have (if I could have any motorcycle in a racing game) a Suzuki GSX-R 1300 to race around some city streets or some circuits. I'd like to imagine if I had a girlfriend in this new-age Hang-On riding at the rear while I speedfreak around the OutRun 2 SP and OR tracks. I don't think I've had a chance to play a Hang-On game at an arcade place. I don't think I even have a favorite arcade motorcycle racing game. Played Cyber Cycles, Manx TT, Road Burners, Moto Racer 2, and maybe my favorite motorcycle racing games... Excitebike (NES).

I still enjoyed a little bit of racing without having to get a PSP. My favorite Ferrari in OutRun is the Dino since it's easy to drive. I'm also fond of the 360 Modena, F430, and also the Testarossa. I'm told that the OutRun Testarossa is the best car in the game. I think I have an OutRun Testarossa in OutRun 2. I certainly have a regular Testarossa in the game. Don't know if I have an OR one, though. You basically need OutRun cars when racing the Hard events in OutRun.

What are some of your favorite Ferraris in OutRun 2?

I would expect that they would use MotoGP bikes, on a cross-country type of course.

...Manx TT...
Great game. I used to have it at my arcade. 👍

I love the Dino, Testarossa, 288 GTO, and F40.

in real life i love the f50 GT1 (OR f50) and the f40 (but not the OR f40) however the OR f50 isn't great in the game, and it cant win all the races on looks alone.

in terms of looks, historical significance, but most importantly the handling and acceleration, the OR testarossa wins it for me.

OR testarossa is so controlled when drifting, i just cant get enough of it. it was the only car i could get AAA on with some of the 'cut the lines' challenges. where you really have to move a fair bit to get what you want.

when i race i pretty much only choose the OR testarossa, or occasionally OR enzo, cause i think its quite fast when it comes down to it. the OR 250GTO comes out sometime too when i feel like it but not for serious racing.
